February 17, 2025 – Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent RHP Jacob Barnes to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.I’m happy for anybody that can gather $55M in an honest way. In Adam Ottovino’s case, he did it with only having started 3 games and saving 46 games over a 12 year career. Congratulations to Adam. He turns 39 hears old next fall. Fans should be proud of themselves. Ottovino couldn’t have done it without them.

Hopefully the 2026 World Baseball Classic will not result in a bunch of players not showing up for spring training like happened last time.
Some random info: Former #STLCards pitcher Kwang-Hyun Kim (aka KK, remember him??) will be the highest-paid player in the KBO in 2025. Will make roughly $2.05 million US (3 billion Korean won).

Whoa, good thing we did not re-up Kitty. Not sure what “debridement” is, but if he will miss multiple months the knee must not be good.
Also saw we lost a former St. Louis Brown and are down to two remaining. Frank Saucier (“so-Shay”) passed away recently. Only had a few ABs, but one in particular was quite historical. He was the guy pinch-hit for by #1/8, Eddie Gaedel.
One thing Gaedel has going for him – he has a career OBP of .1000!
Debridement is trimming away frayed material. I had it done to the meniscus in my knee in mid December. I am about 90% now but am obviously not a professional pitcher. 😉
We definitely dodged a bullet on Kittredge. In a round about way it sort of makes up for some of the damage we took on the Matz signing. Speaking of Matz, he did look pretty good today against the Nats. He had some bad defense behind him, but he mostly kept the ball on the ground. I bet he has a good year. He’s in the walk year of his contract and he’s finally injury free, so far, at least. I’m not accusing him of anything, bu it’s odd that things work out that way more often than you would ever imagine. If he does happen to have a good year, he could even be trade bait at the deadline. Wouldn’t that be something!
I’m with you, Mud. Matz won’t bring anything back now, but might at the deadline if he pitches well and stays healthy! A big IF, I know, but he has looked decent so far this spring. I may be in the minority, but I would like to see him get a chance. If he stinks, then either move him to the pen or dump him!

Yet another victim of elbow ligament damage. Seems like there should be a way of knowing what pitches or style of pitching strains the elbow the most, and guys could stay away from pitches that put the elbow at risk.
But then my guess is if they did that, they would not get anyone out and instead of delivering up fastballs and sliders, they would be delivering Amazon packages for a living.
That’s my guess too, Bikemike. It almost seems a shame that everything comes with a price and that’s the cost of doing business.
the Dbacks took around a $47 million bath on Montgomery….he made $25mill last year and was awful but made 10 starts so his $22.5 million option vested for this year which he smartly exercised only to be out the full year.
