Michael Siani – 0 hits in 15 plate appearances the last 2 years and a LIFETIME OPS+ of -16
Brandon Crawford over 2023-24 – .194/.275/.311/.587 for an OPS+ of 63
Ivan Herrera who was the team’s only backup catcher until Pages was called upIt is not respect for Burleson. It is necessity. If he had any other option, I am sure Marmol would not be playing Burleson so much.
Also, Burleson has not had Carlson, Edman or Nootbaar on the active roster this season to take away the number of PAs Burleson has received.
Burleson got plenty of ABs last season. And my feeling is, he will continue to under Oli’s management. I’ve heard Oli talk very positively about Burleson’s hitting ability. Even rave about him, if you please.

Agree, Scott needs AAA at-bats. He’s close, but pretty apparent he’s not ready yet.
Agree, Oli loves him some Alec Burleson. But, this is the big leagues and you have to produce. Period. In three big league seasons, Burleson has failed to produce. Period.
This has the makings of a good team IF they could get healthy. I’m looking forward to the return of Noot, DC, and Edman.

Well, it’s my view that if he can somehow refrain from laying blame on “selfish players” and claiming that disastrous losses will “help the team play better in Sept.” he’ll be better off…”I’ll tell you that!”
Might just be a simple case of wishful thinking, but I get the impression that Herrera’s poised to set his career in motion this season. If he does, it’ll provide an abundance of options in the construction of the day to day line-up.
No doubt Herrera has turned a corner. He had an excellent year at AAA and followed it up with an excellent Winter Ball campaign.

In 2023, Nootbaar, Carlson and O’Neill all spent time on the IL. The Cardinals did not have very many possibilities to play the OF. That was the main reason Burleson played so much. Richie Palacios (15) had almost as many starts as Burleson (17) from the time Richie was called up until Burleson went on the IL for the remainder of the year. That tells me that he was not valued all that much.
It might be worth noting that from the time Burleson was first called up in September 2022 until now, he has never been optioned out.
I don’t know if that makes it less likely he will be optioned out this year. It does mean that he has all three option years remaining, and if he is optioned, he will still have two remaining. That makes it easier to keep him and easier to move him.

AdM, Burleson is a really good fast ball hitter. As noted on today’s telecast. That’s why he’s a valuable lefty bat as a pinch hitter against the flame-throwing RHP closers. That will be a huge factor in the decision to keep him with the Cardinals or burn an option, sending him to AAA, when some outfielders return. In that case, insurance for another injury to some of the more fragile outfielders. He’s valuable for the Cardinals one way or the other.
So far, you’ve told us 1) Burleson has gotten “plenty of ABs”; and 2) he’s a “fabulous” hitter (at least against RHP, “flame-throwing” and otherwise).
So is there some definitive point in the future at which you will address/reconcile the fact that he is currently slashing .231/.289/.371/.663 with a 82 wRC+ against RHP in those “plenty of ABs?”

He can’t run.
He’s extremely limited defensively.
He’s hitting .200 with 4 singles and 1 double. No power! Career OPS+ of 80.
So please explain to this Neanderthal where his value is because I don’t see it.
Oh, and while you’re at it, please explain why you say he’s a “really good fastball hitter”? Please use some stats, facts, or data to back up your claim.

AdM, despite the stats, Jim Edmonds seems to have a lot of respect for Burleson’s hitting ability. Today isn’t the first time Edmonds has praised Burleson’s hitting ability. Considering credibility, who should I believe, you or Edmonds? To me, Edmonds seems like a “straight shooter” regarding baseball. He’s an outstanding baseball analyst. Carry on with your bantering, if you will. I choose to place more value in what I’ve heard from professional baseball people regarding Burleson.
I think Greyghost has a clear understanding of the most likely scenario regarding Burleson. Unless he instantly begins to rip the baseball and generate some serious offensive production, he’s headed south to Memphis as soon as a couple of players return from nursing infirmities.
Mr Shady, Edmonds and all other Cardinal broadcasters are essentially paid to sell the Cardinals to the local populace.
Now to your question. You’re supposed to be able to look at his numbers and figure out for yourself if he’s a good hitter or not. I didn’t need a Cardinal announcer to know if Albert Pujols could hit. I didn’t need an announcer to know that Luis Melendez couldn’t hit. I don’t need an announcer to know that Vic Scott is fast.
To date and it could always change, AB is an epic failure at the mlb level.
