Yeah, the Reds gave up a first rounder and third rounder AND took on roughly $20 million in salary.
They are also rumored to still be in the Kluber talks.
Seems like they might have more up their sleeve.
December 21, 2018 at 5:07 pm #78212CC, look at what the Reds gave up. Bailey, who was going to be released, and a couple of prospects, but not close to their best. Reds #7 and #20 according to MLB Pipeline.
C2016, you are right. The winter is not over, but even Kluber can only pitch every fifth day. Current rotation is Wood, Castillo, Roark, Desclafani and Mahle. Ugh. I am not being arrogant, but honestly, would even one of them make the Cardinals starting five? Maybe Castillo?
P.S. I had a mixed-league 15-team fantasy baseball draft last month when in Phoenix. Only one Reds pitcher was taken, closer Raisel Iglesias. For comparison, eight Cardinals pitchers were taken.
December 21, 2018 at 5:17 pm #78213is the Reds system that good or is there amatuer scouting that bad. They gave up a 2018 second rounder and a 2017 first rounder.
December 21, 2018 at 5:31 pm #78215would even one of them make the Cardinals starting five?
Wood has a career 3.29 ERA. Yeah, he’d probably make our starting rotation.
December 21, 2018 at 5:34 pm #78217Fair enough. The Reds will enjoy Wood for one year at most before he flees for a better team or is traded away first.
If you are trying to build a contender, you don’t add three one-year contract guys unless they are the last pieces to go for it all this season. The Reds are going nowhere in 2019 and then, the three will be gone. The Reds’ benefit will be in players/prospects they get when they trade them (or worst case, when they become free agents).
December 21, 2018 at 5:46 pm #78218The two prospects dropped into about the same places in the Dodgers top 30.
Jeter Downs slides into the Dodgers' Top 30 at No. 7.
@greenevillereds alum RHP Josiah Gray enters at No. 16. https://t.co/Zyjbiv3cwp

December 21, 2018 at 5:57 pm #78219Reds boss says the right things to the fan base.
Dick Williams: "It’s time to start competing, winning and adding players that can really help us go toe-to-toe in this division." #Reds add some big-name talent in trade with LA. https://t.co/cCJgR2N6Ja

jj-cf-stlParticipantReds lineup is going to be TOUGH to pitch to. Sure hope they’re not interested in jt realmuto, because 1-7 is…..
Clearly they’re going to try to outscore their pitching ?
December 21, 2018 at 9:00 pm #78223Rosenthal summarized the money.
Factoring in Bailey’s deferrals and $7M from #Dodgers, deal close to financial wash for #Reds long-term (they add a few million). Not giving up best prospects. Adding four players who will help in ‘19 (albeit three in walk years). RH Kemp, Puig go with LH Winker, Schebler in OF.

ParticipantOnyx – people who far surpass you in baseball sophistication don’t get frightened. They make smart moves, not stupid ones.
December 21, 2018 at 9:16 pm #78225You mean stupid moves like Clement, Moss, Masterson, Leake, Fowler, Cecil, Ozuna, Gregorson, Holland, etc. Goldschmidt and Miller could work out…we’ll see.
December 21, 2018 at 9:51 pm #78226Nate, please provide your list of front offices that execute every move flawlessly. I will follow with a comparable list of their mistakes. Your expectations remain out of sync with reality.
December 21, 2018 at 9:55 pm #78227BCcran your not one of them
December 21, 2018 at 9:56 pm #78228The LA Times blasts Puig on his way out the door.

December 21, 2018 at 11:59 pm #78236I think Puig can cash in big with a season in GAB. I just wonder who or if they care who plays CF. Puig and Schelber have I believe.

@bccran – grow the **** up.@BW – clearley a violation of your TOC. Start acting like a moderator, and you might get my business.

Brian, you used to mock me because I didn’t think Brandon Moss was a Cardinal. Every time he hit a home run, you mocked me.
Here’s the ****ing deal. Until you learn how to moderate. You will never get my ****ing business. Period. If people have divergent opinions than you, that’s great. Because guess what, I joined this message board because the Cardinals front office didn’t give a shit, and nobody else did either. They missed the playoffs every year since. Am I the cause? No. They are. You can defend them all you want, but until you moderate your own comments on your own message board, you will continue to lose business because you are nothing but a schmuck. Don’t like it? Moderate.

What is your issue exactly? He let’s people say what they want for the most part.
Do they need to do more? Yes I think they should and Brian has said as much. Don’t attack the man because he calls you out and you’ve got no idea what is next. They’ll make at least one more deal. Just because they might not make it before the new year doesn’t mean they won’t. And i’m in your corner on some stuff but he’s not the issue. E-mail the team with your issues because he’s not the issue.
December 22, 2018 at 12:40 am #78243What is your issue exactly?
My issue is Brian has never once been a moderator. He is an antagonist.
Don’t attack the man because he calls you out and you’ve got no idea what is next.
Actually, if you compare my ideas to what has happened….And what Brian has offered….
E-mail the team with your issues because he’s not the issue.
Actually, he is. What is the definition of a moderator? Does Brian fit that definition?
December 22, 2018 at 12:41 am #78244Hey, Cardinals2016. You need to chill a little bit. This s just a baseball forum.
Here’s an exercise to help put things in perspective. First notice that the stock market is crashing, the federal government is shut down, and in a few days the National Debt will cross $23T. Then notice that this is a forum for commenting about Cardinal baseball. End of exercise.
December 22, 2018 at 12:46 am #78245Hey Mudville, I totally agree.
And given your perspective, I’ll probably back 80% of your political ideas.
But the reality is, this place is hypocritical. I’m just calling it out.
December 22, 2018 at 7:24 am #78255C2016, you asked for moderation, and so you have it. Your repeated use of profanity is in direct violation of the posted site rules. Your posting privileges have been revoked for a week.
In the interim, I suggest you find another free message board community that more closely aligns with your interests. That would appear to be better for all involved.

jj-cf-stlParticipantRosenthal calls the Reds / Dodgers trade a financial wash. Yet the Dodgets just ate 28mil on Homer Bailey’s release. How’s that for “flawless” FO management.
Isn’t Friedman supposed to be one of the best in the biz?
We endure our less productive contracts on the field because they aren’t released. The high roller orgs just make them vanish and move on.
That disappearing act doesn’t make their execs better.
December 22, 2018 at 9:53 am #78259Fwiw, I like 2016’s post (about baseball) and hope he returns.
I also which Brian would be more opinionated not less. I enjoy hearing his opinions though we often disagree. He actually has been more opiniinated the last 6 months and hope that continues.
