Never a right or wrong. Always enlightening to discuss differing viewpoints.

Zac Gallen, now a starter in the AAA New Orleans Baby Cakes rotation, got some revenge? on the organization that traded him by hitting two Redbird batters in tghe very first inning last night. Unfortunately, Rangel Ravelo, his first victim, had to leave the game. The second HBP was Carson Kelly who stayed in the game.

Geez, I commented in some detail about the middle infield options for next season and the whole thing vanished. I hate when that happens. Maybe I’ll redo it later…. or not.

I have had that happen before. It is usually because I write a post before making sure that I’m signed in. If I hit the submit button without being signed in then the post goes away and I have to sign in and re-type it. What is weird is that sometimes I open the site and am automatically logged in and sometimes I’m not.

I don’t even have the option to make a post if I’m not logged in, so I am not sure how that is the issue

I get the option. It happened earlier today. I clicked on reply, typed a post, hit the submit button, then was notified that I wasn’t logged in. Had to long in and start over.

It is likely the unfortunate situation that the system-generated logoff occurs between the time you start typing the post and when you hit the submit button. It has happened to me only a handful of times in the first year, but I agree that even once is frustrating. The only workaround I can suggest is the back button on your browser. I use Firefox and most times, I can recover what I typed this way.

(I am going to cross-post this on the Questions thread pinned at the top for future reference.)

Quite a few great pitching performances so far today. 3 double digit strikeout performances, although Schlesener’s was involved in a suspended game. Both DSL starters had great outings. Puello looks like the real deal. And I hope Schlesener gets bumped up to Peoria for their last few regular season games and playoffs. Schlesener seems to have improved greatly on control. Lots of ground balls and strikeouts. He surely should make the top 50 list.

There are several DSL hurlers who should pitch in the states next year, so maybe they will fill the pitching prospect gap.

While watching the Peoria game on MILBTV I heard the announcers say that the Quad Cities affiliate pitchers needed 65 strikeouts to break the all time minor league record. THen I check out their stats, OMG, 8 to 10 pitchers have some phenomonal strikeout totals. I don’t think I have ever seen anything close.

Anyone following the affiliates probably noticed a general downward trend in their play. In the last week from the 17th to the 22nd:

Memphis——- 1-4 – Warner pitched his worst game of the season. 4 game losing streak, 5 runs scored.
    Springfield— 2-3 – 12 runs scored.
Palm Beach—- 2-3 – Fagalde worst start in ’18
Peoria——– 1-5 – Rondon worst start in ’18
Johnson City– 2-7 – Schmid, Aker, Leahy worst starts in ’18, plus a lousy start from Hunt.

    Now on the bright side:

State College- 6-1 – Casadilla’s two best starts of ’18.
    GCL-Cards—– 4-0 – 27 runs, Coward’s best game of ’18.

Gorman, 3 run shot off of a lefty. He has been fun to watch.

I guess this would be Gorman 2nd 1st home run since this is a suspended game from before he arrived in Peoria.

It was an extra-inning 7-4 win for Springfield last night. In the 94 degrees Tulsa heat things heated up even more after Nogowski struck out for the second out in 10th. Card’s manager Johnny Rodriguez got the heave-ho by home plate umpire Andrew Barrett.

Then Knizner strikes out looking to end the inning. Before the bottom half of the inning got started, Barrett was taking a lot of heat and sent pitching coach Darwin Marrero, Nogowski and Knizner to the crowded showers.

The game was won by a Johan Mieses grand slam right before the Nogowski strike out, so you would think that the Drillers team would be mad as heck.

I guess the S-birds want to make some noise at the end of a frustrating season by causing some mayhem.

This is the log of how the whole scenario played out:

    Springfield Top of the 10th
Seth Elledge starts inning at 2nd base.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Jose Martinez replaces Seth Elledge.
Tommy Edman singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jacob Scavuzzo. Jose Martinez to 3rd.
Ramon Urias strikes out swinging. Tommy Edman steals (25) 2nd base.
Shea Spitzbarth intentionally walks Andy Young.
Johan Mieses hits a grand slam (8) to left field. Jose Martinez scores. Tommy Edman scores. Andy Young scores.
    John Nogowski strikes out swinging.
Springfield Cardinals Manager Johnny Rodriguez ejected by HP umpire Andrew Barrett.
Andrew Knizner called out on strikes.
    Tulsa Bottom of the 10th
Pitching Change: Landon Beck replaces Seth Elledge, batting 9th, replacing Jose Martinez.
Springfield Cardinals Pitching Coach Darwin Marrero ejected by HP umpire Andrew Barrett.
Springfield Cardinals first baseman John Nogowski ejected by HP umpire Andrew Barrett.
Springfield Cardinals catcher Andrew Knizner ejected by HP umpire Andrew Barrett.

With Schrock having a less than stellar season at Memphis, Young may be the guy in Memphis next season. He is what VEB says below. With highly praised prospects like Knizner, Edman, Urias and Mendoza in the S-Card’s lineup, its Young that is carrying this team. .476 in his last 5 games.

    Player of the Week
    Andy Young (2B): .391/.440/.522, 1 R, HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, HBP

Young takes the honors again for Springfield. He’s absolutely feasting on Texas League pitching, slashing .360/.437/.640 in 126 PA, good for 193 wRC+. Young now has 21 HR on the season, easily his highest yearly total. His BB% has fallen to below 5% since his promotion from Palm Beach but he’s still striking out less than 20% of the time. The big issue with Young’s performance is a monstrous .388 BABIP; it will be interesting to see if Young can sustain his production through the final few games this year.

After his disastrous start on 8-15 (3.0IP – 4 er -6BBs) Conner Jones now finds himself in the Sprinfield bullpen. His stock has fallen off on each of the TCN’s prospects list. April #24 – May #26 – June #29 and Aug. #35. He just hasn’t been impressive with low K rates, high batting averages against, and WHIPs are high also.

Maybe with some success in SPFD’s final 8 games, he’ll be a fit in the Memphis pen next season. I think he has been squeezed out of his starting role.

I have been down on Jones since his first season, mostly due to low K rates. Evan for a sinkerball pitcher he should get more K’s than he has at the minor league level.

On Young, I remind folks that he had 17 homers last year, so it isn’t like his 21 this year is all that much more, as that clip suggested. He has shown consistent power. That very high BABIP cannot be ignored, though.

I agree that Young has momentum and Schrock does not, which I reflected in their August rankings.

I think that Jones pitched himself out of his starting role. His innings are actually down from last year, so it isn’t workload.

I’m just curious why you think Clapp is that much superior to Shildt, is all.
