Garcia belts 2 more, now has 21 for Memphis. Young swats another. He has 6 in a short span at Springfield.
I’m very proud of what Andy Young is doing at AA-Springfield in only 11 games.

1.360OPS.Young has done this type of thing before when in his second pro season he was placed at Peoria and opened up there with some impressive power numbers. The tougher Florida State League proved a challenge for him but he seems to be liking the AA Midwest League.
Being at Springfield means meeting up with his buddies from SC JeMarinez and Edman, who have been step ahead of him since short-season-A. Having to deal with being just a 37th rounder in ’16 doesn’t seem to faze him. He’s a very hard-working, polite kid from West Fargo, North Dakota and says he just tries to do his best in every game. Next up… AAA-Memphis.
Lyons to the rotation in Memphis. Someone correct me if I am wrong but he has to be added to the 40 man roster at the end of the season or he becomes a FA? How well does he have to pitch for them to keep him? He will probably earn about $1.5 million in arbitration if we keep him. 2 years of control. Could the 40 man roster spot come down to a battle between him amd Layne?
Who becomes the odd-man out in the MEM rotation?
The rotaion in April was Gant-Hudson-Gomber-Flaherty-Poncedeleon. Now its Woodford-Herget-Ellis-Warner-Jones. Notice any difference as that window is closing?
This is Lyons’ first outright so free agency not required I think. They could send down one of the Memphis starters back to Springfield for now.
With Lyons, I was thinking of the Diaz situation and thought it was you who said he would be a FA if not put back on the 40 man roster. I could be mistaken though.
Gorman pops his 11th home run. It looks like the record is 16 by Roberto De LA Cruz. Or at least it is as far back as MILB.com records go. Any way, I hope Nolan turns out way better than the record holder.
Today, Tue. the 7th, Memphis put Schrock and Tover on the DL, leaving them with 10 position players. There’s still 14 pitchers. They are playing Fresno tonight at home and have a day off tomorrow before going to OK City for 4.
Urias was already dispatched from Springfield and is one of the ten. They may try to play tonight”s game with 10 position players…. leaving one on the bench as they will use the DH.
Peoria is now down to 24 players with Montero being promoted. They could use another OF as they are down to three. The Chiefs are off today so another player should be added before tomorrow’s game in Geneva, Ill. against the Kane County Cougars.
C27, what an excellent reminder to temper enthusiasm over rookie league success. Roberto De La Cruz got $1.1 MM to sign and looked very promising for a while, but before long, he washed out in A-ball.
Carlos Soto demoted to GCL. Certainly not because if his bat. My guess just wanted to get both him and Jackson playing time. But GCL has Herrera. Makes you wonder what the reason was.
Herrera was replaced with a pinch-runner on Sunday in the 8th after a bunt single. He hasn’t played since, which would lead one to think it might be a hamstring. The thinking may be to get both Jax and Soto some more playing time.
Herrera has had one of the best seasons going in ’18 so stayed tuned on this one.
As I scan our top 30 list I think it is reasonable to think that at least 50% of those players will make it to the big leagues and several of that 50% could be significant contributors not just complimentary pieces. Our system is in pretty good shape and could get even better if we move Gyroko and JMart this winter.
Gorman to Peoria, it is good to test him. And I’ll get to see him play. Gorman seems to be willing to take walks, something Roberto De La Cruz never did. Any chance of a trifecta move, with Malcolm Nunez coming to Johnson City?
The GCL-Cards split a DH with the Astros yesterday (Won2-1/Lost3-2 in 8). A very common low scoring twin-bill but there’s some underlying stories here.
Connor Coward (26rd./’18) pitched the first game and went 5.0 for the win. Since moving into the rotation (4th start) Coward’s game scores = 59-60-65-68. Definitely a guy to keep an eye on. At 22 he’ll need to move up quickly.
There’s even a bigger story evolving there, Jhonny Torres. The 6′-4″ 18 year old Colombian RF was part of the Mercado deal with CLE. Since moving over from the Indians team in the GCL, Torres is 10 for 17 with 3-2B 2-HRs and 6-RBI. Another one to watch.
I on flip side… the player that made so many excited, Raffy Ozuna, has been in a monumental tailspin. He’s 6 for his last 62 .096. For the season in 107 ABs he has K’d 54 times. He has struck out in 27 of his 28 games. This slump started on July 4th when he was hitting .313 and now he’s at .196. Raffy needs to get back on track because he can hit, but this must be very confusing for him… such a reverse of fortunes.

The 22 year old Dellavalle pitching in the GCL is toying with the younger players there. Yesterday 5 innings pitched 10 Ks. On the season 37.2 IP- 54Ks ERA = 1.91. I think its time to move him up.

How right you are, Cardinals27….Gorman with a booming dongaroo with 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 9th to inch his Chiefs squad to within 7 runs of the opposition. Chiefs starter, Paul Balestrieri, was absolutely tattooed to the tune of 11 runs (every gosh darn one of them earned) on 10 hits, without a K and issuing 3 free passes in his short 2 2/3’s innings of labor. This sort of hammering does not go without consequences as Paul bore witness to his once respectable era ballooning sky high to 4.95.
Two more great starts were wasted last night. PB lost 2-1 negating Walsh’s 6inn outing with a GS of 66. SC’s Schlesener got his fifth start of the season going 6inn GS=65 in a 3-2 loss. In his last four his Game Score avr = 67.5.
And then there was Kruczynski’s 7inn gem for Springfield at Courpus Christi that the S-Cards won 7-0. This was Krucz’ third start at AA. GSs =82-71-79. He has been just outstanding.
The jump up seems to agree with the 6’5″ lefty. For SPFD 21 inn – 19K – 0nly 3 BBs – 0.43ERA – WHIP 0.71 and AVR= .169. No doubt that Evan will be heading into some tough starting competition in ’19, he could start out at Memphis giving us two lefties to consider. (Gomber)
Lane Thomas leading off. Has he been a lead off man in the past?
Has he mainly played CF as he did last night?He usually batted around 3rd at Springfield. Tommy Edmon is their leadoff hitter. Thomas played center field most of the time. 83 of 93 starts. He is an excellent defensive center fielder.
