mud, it is a fair question to compare Hudson’s numbers post-surgery to his pre-surgery results. He doesn’t seem like the same pitcher. Still, as discussed, he is worth keeping.
Maybe it’s not the best comparison…..
It’s been almost two full seasons for
Hudson to be able to say ‘I’m back to feeling like my old self.’ (He was quoted as having said that after one of his good starts during the last few weeks.) And the comparison is to Ian Bedell who had his TJ surgery about two full seasons ago and is now TCN’s Pitcher of the Year for AA.Dakota Hudson:

Bum shoulder guys are like that. You don’t want a ‘you never know’ guy in the lineup. Its a losing proposition as we have observed all year.
Anyone else notice Liberatore’s September so far. 6 relief appearances, 8 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.
I know, small sample size, but has he found a home in the bullpen for 2024?You never know what Hudson is going to show up. He’s not consistent. The same, unfortunately, goes for Mikolas.
And the same goes for most of the pitchers we got in the sell off. Rom, Robberse, Roby, and Kloffenstein have their good days and their setback days. May just be the signs of still being young and needing fuller development?

Its very common throughout all of baseball at any level.
Ny, that’s the truth. Look at someone even as well regarded as Tink H….. he’s even had some blowups. Small sample size alert, but I’ve seen a few quick video’s of Roby, and he’s on my no trade list ahead of Tink.
A) If they could sign Edman for a few extra years, then have the ability to use Winn as trade bait that might be their best bet to land a top notch SP via trade. If they packaged Winn, Tink and a Yepez type, that would get them almost any pitcher they wanted I’d think?
B) Knizner has definitely improved his stock to has some value and Herrera is to important for when WC adds a couple of years. There should be more than enough AB’s for WC and IH between off days and the DH. Speaking of which, WC has sure turned my thoughts around, what a 2nd half!!
C) Nola hasn’t had the best year, Giolito hasn’t had the best year, but they are going into 31 and 29 aged seasons. I’m not sure where some of you get you’re payroll info, but based on COT’s and projected arb and minimum salaries with a 5% increase, they should have almost 50M to spend, and that doesn’t include trading someone like O’neill.
D) So they should have enough money and assets to trade for a great SP and sign two guys like Giolito and Nola. Other spare parts for BP fliers can be used also.

I have liked what I have seen from Liberatore in his recent appearances. He looks more confident – kind of an intangible thing, but he seems to have a better mound presence. And that has followed with some success.
Personally I would have him as a candidate for a starter’s role next year.
Liby did have a string of good outings as a 6th inning guy. Maybe he should have stuck with that. I do not say that facetiously, not entirely at least, as that may be an emerging role with the trend toward shorter starts in today’s game.
Mike, I think if Liby is still on the roster he will be in the mix. No telling just how much roster churn we are going to see though. We might see a different cast of laundry list guys vying for the remaining position(s) after the contract guys.
ccrany is right about the quantity of lefties though. It seems unusual to have so many, but we will have to see what is left by opening day. If for no other reason, there are only so many roster slots in the system and a constant stream of guys coming in and moving up. You just can’t have the same group hanging around at the top hoping they will pan out, and clogging the pipe. Guys who have had their chances or stalled out might need to move on.
Here’s a question for Brian and others.
Lefty Pete Hansen was a third roundpick out of U. of Texas in 2022. He pitched the entire season this year at Palm Beach. Went 11-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.163 WHIP. Struck out 126 in 112.2 innings.
Why wasn’t he promoted this season?
23 years old with that kind of performance?I would keep Liberatore in the pen until he proves he can consistently get hitters out, kind of like they did with Thompson.
Hansen has a huge caveat. The Memphis roster has been decimated due to all the callups needed as injury backfills for St. Louis. With Springfield in the playoffs, they left the Double-A roster alone, so moved up Class-A guys to Triple-A to cover the last weekend of the season.
Hansen, along with infielder Brody Moore and catcher Jimmy Crooks, temporarily up to Memphis from Peoria, will not skip Double-A next year. Still, it is nice recognition for them to get a very small early taste of Triple-A.
Thanks for the input. Knew about these end of the season promotions, but still don’t understand why Hansen wasn’t moved up earlier. How can you learn and develop if you’re kept at a level or two lower than you should be?
