The vaunted 104 win Braves could be in serious trouble if they can’t solve Wheeler in this evening’s NLDS game 2. The O’s with 101 regular season wins can attest that winning 100 or more games means absolutely nothing when you’re 1 loss away from elimination and need to win 3 in a row to survive and advance to the next round. In any event, the WC teams sure do look good so far. I’ve always thought teams that have to scratch and claw until the very end may hold an edge. Keeps them up to genuine game speed. That first round bye may not be the all it’s cracked up to be.
The Phillies lead 1-0 in the 3rd.

Game in ATL is getting good. Braves d’Arnaud 2-run HR closes the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th and chases Wheeler. Alvarado comes in and Ks the two batters he faced to take it to the 8th.
Braves pull to within 1 run with a 2 run tater from d’Arnaud with Olson aboard. Now 4-3 Philly in the visitor half on the 8th.
Riley a two out two run homer in the last of the 8th.

Riley with a 2 run tater with Acuna aboard puts the Braves on top 5-4 in the home half of the 8th. The Braves have hit a lot of HR’s as a team in ’23, but that was undoubtedly the biggest tater of their season.
Wow…CF’er Harris with the circus catch in CF and an ensuing DP to get Harper before he can get back to the 1B bag saves the day for the Braves. That was some kind of a clutch defensive play in CF.

Yeah, that was some kind of ending. I guess that’s a TOOTBLAN on Harper, but I don’t fault him too much based on it looking like it was not a likely catch and he was going to score the tying run. Risk/reward. In hindsight, he should’ve parked on the 2B bag until he saw it fall or be caught.

Din-din today was a trip to Kentucky Fried Chicken. I came away with a three piece dinner. Original, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a dinner roll. Brought it home to eat with a Mt. Dew and then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.
Tomorrow is the weekly trip to the Gasthof, the amish restaurant. Fried chicken, fish, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, some cherry cobbler, and some vanilla or chocolate soft serve ice cream. Then a 7×50 Palma Real cigar out on their porch afterwards.

Baker and Bochy in the ALCS? Why do they still have jobs they’re so yesterday. They probably don’t know which end of a computer to put pine tar on. I’d like to see somebody telling Dusty what pitch design is.
