Haha!…You beat me to the bag, Willie.
October 11, 2023 at 8:48 pm #235567The Astros advance to meet the Rangers in the ALCS with a 3-2 win over the Twins.
October 11, 2023 at 8:51 pm #235568Dbacks up 2-0 over the Dodgers after touching up Lynn with 2 solo taters.
October 11, 2023 at 8:52 pm #235569Make that 3 solo taters…AZ now up 3-0.
October 11, 2023 at 8:57 pm #235570Haha!…Make that 4 solo taters. Lynn’s placing it on a tee for AZ hitters.
October 11, 2023 at 8:57 pm #235571My goodness, it’s the annual National Playoff Tater Day, although Walker’s probably wasn’t a homerun —– until it was again. National Tater Day is 24 hours right down 1td’s alley.

ParticipantWell Lynn proving me wrong. Just throwing the ball right down the middle like batting practice. Even got a home run called back by replay and gave up a homer on next pitch right down middle. Pathetic
October 11, 2023 at 9:00 pm #235573Roberts has seen enough and goes out to get him after 2.2 IP’ed, 4 ER’s on 6 H’s and 4 HR’s. Rough outing for Lynn.
October 11, 2023 at 9:02 pm #235574Yeah Euro, Philly filled their sack up with 6 taters against the Braves today. That’s a franchise record for a post-season game.
October 11, 2023 at 9:05 pm #2355751982 willie
ParticipantI like Roberts but bottom line out in LA you have to win some championships. You can only say we ran into a hot team or some other stuff so many times. One world series win with all their success as far as division titles reminds you a lot of the braves back in the day when they had Maddox, glavine, and schmoltz. Granted lots of regular season success but the prize is the big one at the end of the playoffs.
October 11, 2023 at 9:06 pm #235576If AZ holds on to this 4-0 lead and the Phillies, who now hold a 2-1 lead in games, can close out the Braves, the 4 teams in the LCS will consist of 3 WC teams and 1 division winner.
October 11, 2023 at 9:11 pm #235577I agree, Willie. The Dodgers won in ’20 with Roberts on the top step, but I don’t count that season. No fans, no season…
October 11, 2023 at 9:16 pm #235578Lance Lynn knew what he was doing — all solo taters!
October 11, 2023 at 9:23 pm #235579I agree, Euro. When you rip 4 HR’s in 2.2 innings, you feel short changed with only 4 runs. Plenty of time for the Dodgers to close the gap.
October 11, 2023 at 9:29 pm #2355801982 willie
ParticipantIf I was a pitcher and knew what I was doing, I wouldnt give up 4 home runs almost 5 in one inning but maybe that’s just me.
October 11, 2023 at 9:39 pm #235581It’s a veteran move willie. Give up 4 solo taters and get ’em overconfident.
October 11, 2023 at 10:25 pm #2355831982 willie
ParticipantWell Euro, I’ll buy the sentiment it’s better to give up 4 solos homers vs 4 multi run homers but usually the caveat is that the guy gave you 5 or 6 innings and kept it somewhat close. But he didn’t get out of the third inning so he didn’t earn that. If the dodgers come back it will be in spite of what Lynn did not in anyway because of it.
October 11, 2023 at 11:01 pm #235586willie, you’re right, I was just mocking Lynn, haha. Sorry that didn’t come across. Not to be mean about Lynn (I liked him as a Card), I just thought it was funny he got tattooed like he did, twice by one guy even, and I always get a kick out of the Dodger losing in the playoffs. Batting practice like you said.
And the game just ended. So once again, 2023 is just another season where neither the Cards nor the Dodgers make the NLCS.
October 12, 2023 at 4:47 am #235588Dodgers get bounced without winning a solitary game. If Philly can win 1 of 2 games, 3 out of the 4 teams in the LCS will have qualified for the postseason as a WC.
October 12, 2023 at 5:39 am #235589The knack for playing best when it matters most seems to be all about intangibles. Things that cannot be reliably measured and quantified no matter how fancy your gear and how smart your wonks. It seems like that situation would be unacceptable to a lot of folks these days.
October 12, 2023 at 7:13 am #235593The Dodgers have averaged 106 wins over the last three regular seasons, and in that same span, they are 7-12 in the postseason.

October 12, 2023 at 7:13 am #235594Do Wild Cards have too big of an advantage?
October 12, 2023 at 7:15 am #235595
jj-cf-stlParticipant“intangibles”
“can not be reliably measured”I do enjoy the incremates of a baseball game, and how the reality of each individual play affects the final score.
The game is good to go without adding in make believe stuff, imo.
October 12, 2023 at 8:18 am #235599
jj-cf-stlParticipantLance Lynn starting in an elimination game sums up the Dodgers season.
October 12, 2023 at 8:46 am #235601Do Wild Cards have too big of an advantage?
It could be argued that having a path to postseason without having put in the work building one of the best teams is an advantage. The Cardinals FO strategy seems geared toward taking full advantage of that.
I can see where some teams having a bye and others not injects possible tilt to the playing field. It should be as level as possible.
