Haha!…If it is indeed Bochy and Dusty squaring off in the ALCS, the combined age of those two field managers would be 142 years. Even though he’s 6 years senior over Bochy at 74 and 68 years of age respectively, I’m giving Dusty the edge in a foot race. Bochy’s knees have to be a little brittle after all those innings he spent squatting behind HP…Dusty can still bust it down the line.
Orioles eliminated by the Rangers. 7-1 Texas the final. They move on to the ALCS.
I wonder if Dave Roberts might be feeling some heat out there in LA?
Wow that was quite a flame out by the Orioles.
If Atlanta can’t get past the Phillies (again) that fan base should be really disappointed in that team.
The 2006 Cards won the division but the 2011 team really has no business being in the playoffs yet they win the title.
The more the playoffs are expanded the more it cheapens the regular season.
The NBA is the worst. 82 games to prove what? 16 out of their 30 teams make the post season sometimes even with a losing record.
Hockey isn’t much better.
Division champions to the playoffs make sense and if there are an odd number of divisions then one (and only one) WC makes sense because as we often see – long breaks can throw a team off so – no byes.
Also, the shorter the series the more likely an upset is to occur because pitching depth does not come into play.
It’s pretty easy to follow the trail of greed to find the problems… ticket, concession, and parking prices have spiraled out of control so little Jimmy can make several hundred thousand dollars a year to throw or hit a baseball. Even people that aren’t fans are victims because many of the products and services they consume cost more because of the absolutely insane TV advertising costs to again pay the teams so NFL QBs can make 20-50 million per year….

How is BillMo supposed to skate by with “competitive” without multiple wild card slots cheapening the cost of a postseason berth? With the big spenders in the other divisions, we would have to win the division every year.
Agree that Wild Card isn’t likely for the Cards despite there being three of them. The good news (if there is any) is that the Central Division is almost always the most winnable of the three divisions. But finishing last among that crew indicates how far the Cards have fallen from contention.
That WC is looking to be an across the board ace this season with Texas advancing and both AZ and Philly looking to be in pretty good shape. ATL barely avoided traveling to Philly down 2-0 and LA’s on life support having to win 3 in a row to survive.
It’s still a ways off, but a baseball gypsy told me that it’s going to be an Astros/Braves WS that extends to the full 7 games in which the Astros win it all in the 13th inning to become the first team to repeat since the 2000 Yankees. As the Astros celebrate on the field of play the camera will pan over to show the 74 year old Dusty Baker sound asleep in the dugout…
There was a time when the NBA played the regular season just to figure out the playoff seeds. They had 9 teams, and 8 made the playoffs.

Haha!…Yeah, he ripped 22 taters in 112 games at Memphis and the highbrow Redbird wise men DFA’ed him after 17 PA’s in the Big Leagues. He’s collected 97 HR’s in 3 seasons at Texas and that 3 run tater he ripped yesterday buried the O’s in the 2nd inning.
Garcia was never super highly thought of and it seemed like he was going to be a power guy, low OBP without a sure OF spot. He’s taken that profile and run with it in Texas. Good for him.
The only thing Garcia provides is across the board offensive production. In addition to averaging over 32 HR’s a season, he’s also averaged 99 RBI’s and 91 runs scored for the Rangers over the last three seasons. Those numbers are right in line with Goldschmidt’s last three seasons and better than Arenado’s. But the kicker is that Garcia’s paycheck for the year ’23 is a little under $750K.
He’s been around for 12 years now and continues to be extremely dangerous. Hard to believe he’s still only 30.
And now a double by Realmuto puts the Phillies up 6-1.
Looks like the Braves are going to have their backs to the wall tomorrow.

Seems like I’m seeing a lot of ex-Cards in the playoffs, as in “a lot” being disproportionately high compared to what other teams are seeing. Maybe my perception isn’t correct and it’s just the nature of things nowadays.
Harper was a guy people pegged as a future star when he was still in high school. He just had the tools and hit the ground running practically from the get-go, as Mike Shannon might have said.
Saw him play in Harrisburg one year when I was in the Gettysburg area for a vintage baseball tourney. He hit a triple off the top of the wall in center field that night, but did not do much in his other at bats.
As for Garcia, I guess management profiled him as a high strikeout guy and felt we had better options in Carlson, O’Neill and Bader. Still if you can’t get anything for a guy, keep him around just in case. Especially when he has the athleticism and strength that Adolis possesses.
Yeah, I recall first hearing about Harper during that monumental 2011 season at which time he was only 18 years of age. He’s already taken possession of two MVP awards, so at 30 years of age he could very well collect a third before he’s through. If he does, he’s a HOF’er if he isn’t already.
Speaking of MVP winners, I recently read an article that pointed out that the 70’s were a decade in which quite a few big names were awarded MVP’s, but are not members of the HOF. Those names include, Vida Blue, Richie Allen, Pete Rose, Steve Garvey, Freddie Lynn, Thurmon Munson, George Foster, Dave Parker, and our own Keith Hernandez. I think Hernandez, Garvey and Munson all belong and that Rose will get in posthumously. The article made the claim that Lynn would almost certainly be a HOF member had he remained in Boston and for about 3 or 4 seasons I thought that Dave Parker was one of the best baseball players I’ve ever seen play, but injuries and ingesting poison slowed him down.

Lynn going for the dodgers tonight. If the dodgers can mount some offense, I think they win. I always liked Lynn. He was kind of a prima Donna but you could count on him ever 5th day and it was usually a solid game. Should have kept him.
