“Sosa is the beat defender on the team”, below average on the Cardinals. Guess that explains why the Cardinals were highly rated defense and the Phillies pretty poor.

Turn out the lights the party’s over. It ended exactly how we thought it would. A quick opening round exit.

No game puts the pressure on individual players like baseball.

Well…Pretty good season. Both HOF’ers said so long with a base hit…

Typical Cardinal year, win enough to get in and then fade in the 1st round. Come on management, spend the money to make this a contender.

We need two top of the line arms and another consistent bat. This team is just good enough to win the crappy NL Central.

    That was Pathetic.

I give Marmol a big fat F for his managing.

He pulled Quintana too early, how did he not know Helsley was hurt and regardless he left him in too long, he pulled Mikolas too early, he should have pinch hit for Molina in the 7th, and in the 9th (regardless of the hit), there is more.

    F.

The entire offense for both games was one swing. Its clear that this team needs at least 3 more good bats in the line up…

But this disaster lays mostly at Marmol’s feet.
Congrats on winning the worst division in baseball, I guess, but when 3 teams take the year off it’s not that grand of an accomplishment.

Please for the love of God will the FO fix this offense. You can’t have 3-4 guys in the line up that can’t hit their own weight.

We do NOT have a top of the line ace starter. Flaherty is our only hope. I told everyone the Philadelphia pitching would shut us down.

Goldy and Arenado fizzled down the stretch.

Hard to explain this meltdown. Golden opportunity in the 8th but the two guys making millions upon millions of dollars failed.

    On to 2023.

I agree colhusker. Need another bat and a top of the line starter.

p.s. all in all, wasn’t all that bad of a season. The playoffs can be a crapshoot and we rolled up a 7 against the Phillies.

Well a pitiful foul pop up ends it. I didn’t feel this team had the right stuff to go all the way but the further you get, you never know. But for their offense especially their biggest players to basically not show up is pretty bad. I personally don’t think this Phillie team is as good as us but if you basically take out our best players then maybe they are. Maybe instead of resting goldy, they should have gotten him more at bats. Arenado hit some balls hard, goldy did nothing. In fact looked pretty embarrassing.

I can’t believe Marmol forced Goldy and Arenado to go 1-15 in this series. What was he thinking?

Our offense gets a big fat F from me.

Goldschmidt and Arenado gave us nothing but strike outs and sad looks! Looks like they were taking advice from Dejong! The truth is colhusler said it! This team is nowhere near good enough to contend! So weak at SS and catcher and no clear 1 or 2 starter! Unless serious money is spent and it won’t be we can look forward to contending in the central and editing early when we play quality teams in the playoffs! This model works for Mo and Bill because tons of people come and they make lots of money without having to spend as much as many teams!

The better team won. Plain and simple. The NL East has 1/2 the NL playoff field. The Phillies were battle hardened against really good teams and the Cardinals not so much. This time of year you need the horses in the lineup and on the bump and St. Louis doesn’t have the horses.

We need an ace. But Goldy and Arenado were really bad.

I agreed with pulling Quintana when he did. Should have went longer with Hicks yesterday and shortened the game that way instead of Gallegos and Helsley.
I probably would have pulled Mikolas before he did. Facing elimination you can’t mess around. Montgomery did well, I didn’t like the move to him in the middle of an inning. I said pinch hit for Molina too, but who are you using that you’re any more confident in?
I hated the lineup construction too.

    Goldschmidt – MVP, MVP!, lol

Condolences from a Cub fan, part of me was pulling for you, always nice to see teams win the World Series who haven’t won it in a while.

Good pitching beats good hitting. Wheeler and Nola are better than anything the Cardinals have. I said they’d get beat 2-0 and they did. But when you’ve got then beat in Wheeler’s start yesterday, you shouldn’t have lost the series because Suarez was where the Cardinals had the advantage.

Very true, a pennant race is fun to share in these threads. Regardless of differences on how things could’ve or should’ve been handled, they are fun to discuss, or should be fun. It’s nice to have a hobby that drives your passion.

The Cardinals rotation is mostly full of number three starters, which is fine for 162 games but in a short series the team with the dominant aces are at an advantage. The Cardinals need a dominant ace or two to advance in the postseason.

The problem the Phillies have is that they don’t have much pitching depth. They will probably get smoked by the Braves because they won’t be able to use Wheeler and Nola each game.
