CariocaCard…No, there were 2 expansion franchises added to the AL in ’61, and 2 added to the NL in ’62. The 4 in’69 were added the same year that the Big Leagues went to a divisional set-up.
EuroDandy…WINNER! Rod Carew won the AL batting championship in 1972 with a .318 BA and no taters…Three guys from the NL have won a batting title in seasons with no HR’s, but the only three instances in the NL occured in 1897, 1902 and 1918…Haha!
For the punchless AL MVP, the first player that came to mind was Harmon Killebrew, but then I quickly came to my senses. But the player I’m thinking of for this honor did play for Killebrew’s Twins……late 60’s or early 70’s…..Zoilio Verselles…..or something like that. I’m almost tempted to peek now, but I’ll refrain.

1td, about that same time I remember Carew stealing home several times one season. Straight steals too, not where you time the catcher’s throws to get a different runner stealing 2B.
I also so a clip of Delvin Perez on a straight steal of home earlier this year, Memphis I think.

EuroDandy…I vivdly remember Carew stealing HP and not only reading about it in the paper during the early ’70’s, but also him doing it a little later on more towards the end of the decade and seeing the replay and hearing Mel Allen exclaim, “How about that!” on Saturday morning’s “This Week in Baseball” show prior to the Saturday game of the week.” Carew collected quite a few SB’s in his career.

UPDATE: Milwaukee now up on the Mets 3-0 heading to the 3rd. 7.5 games is pretty much guaranteed tonight.
In the event of any confusion created by the second trivia question, prior to 1961 there were 8 Big League teams apiece in the NL and AL, for a total of 16 Big League franchises. This number of 8 teams in each league had been in place for quite some time. In ’61, the AL added 2 teams, so for one season the AL consisted of 10 teams to the NL’s 8. In ’62, the NL expanded to 10 teams to balance out the entire affair at 10 teams per league. The 4 teams added in the period ’61 and ’62 are widely considered to be the four “original” expansion franchises. Don’t ask me why…Haha!
A hint that I hope is subtle enough to not give away the answer to the second question…Pugs had a really good guess with Rusty Staub, but Staub played for both the Tigers and the Expos during his long and great career and neither one of those franchises fall under the category of the original four expansions. However, the guy who is the correct answer played for three of the same teams that Staub played for during his career and those three teams are among the four original expansion teams of the period ’61 and ’62.

I am thinking the Gasthof Amish Restaurant might have to wait until Thursday. It’s supposed to be low 90s here tomorrow and then cool off to around 70 on Thursday. I like to mow when it’s hot so after the hot Nurse Practitioner I am thinking I will just go ahead and mow a day early. Then have my din-din.

Forsch31…Those are indeed 3 of the 4 teams. The Texas Rangers, along with the Twins, are also considered an off-shoot of the Senators… And the answer shouldn’t be too awfully difficult at this point…Haha!

Well, it’s getting close to first pitch in SD. A couple more hints and if no one gets the correct answer in a bit, I’ll post it. The correct answer is a HOF’er and pretty much a household name in baseball circles.
