Made me think of another wrinkle. What about catcher’s interference. Does it count as a plate appearance? Any impact on BA or OBP?
EuroDandy…So, a sac-bunt is a total wash on both accounts, but a sac-fly is only a wash on a BA, but lowers an OBP? I wonder the reasoning?
I would guess it counts as a PA, has a positive impact on an OBP, and no impact on a BA?
If this is in response to the catcher’s interference question, yes it does count as a plate appearance. However, like a sacrifice (the bunt type), it has no impact on BA or OBP. At least it would improve your strikeout percentage!
On your question about why sac fly lowers OBP, but not BA, I don’t know the rationale for it.
I did read years ago the rationale on why a sac fly (runner advances and scores) doesn’t count against batting average, while a fly that advances a runner to just 2B or 3B is not a sac fly and does count against the batting average. What I read said it’s this way because it is common that hitters often try to lift a long fly to score a runner on 3B, thus they should be rewarded with a sac fly to not hurt the average. However, it’s not common for hitters to try to lift a long fly for the purpose to advance a runner from 1B to 2B or 2B to 3B, thus no sac fly.

The Dodgers came back from a 5-1 deficit in the last of the 8th and beat Arizona 6-5 in the first game of the twin bill. LA plated five runs in the last of the 8th, the last two coming on infield singles.
We don’t want the Dodgers getting hot all of a sudden. They have three more games left with the DBacks before we come calling on Friday night. I hope Arizona wins at least one of those three games.

Looks like Hummel thinks that NL MVP honors for Goldy has gone down the drain with his recent mediocre hitting. Goldy need only have a decent 10 days of hitting and the coveted award should be his.
A couple of little baseball trivia questions that don’t require an advanced degree in mathematics…Haha!

2. Who is the only player to play for all four original expansion franchises and ONLY those four franchises.
The first one should be easy as being limited to the AL pretty much gives it away. To clarify the term “original expansion franchises” in the second question, what is meant are the four new teams who began play in ’61 and ’62 in the AL and NL respectively.

Shux, I just checked. DeGrom is NOT going to pitch against Milwaukee. That pretty much slams the door on our slim chances of winning the NL Central. What it boils down to is that we will have to sweep the Pirates those last six games. It’s a given that Milwaukee will sweep their last seven at home against Miami and Arizona.

1TD, I am confused by the question. There were 2 original expansion franchises in 1962. There were 4 more in 1969.
