Is there any pitcher in baseball who doesn’t have his all time best game vs our Cardinals? How in blazes are we 26 games over .500? It really can’t be possible.

No. I went to the HS built on the grounds formerly known as Robison field, home of the Browns and the renting Cardinals, Beaumont HS. Transferred to Central my senior year. Beaumont was becoming a war zone.
I have fond memories of southwest as I used to ride that Grand Ave. bus to see a friend and practice with your wrestling team.
That Arenado HBP sounded loudly like ball-on-bone…..ouch!

My Dad took our family to Atlanta to see the Braves and Astros play in 1970. I was already entrenched as a Cards fan because of 1968, but what a thrill for an 11 year old to see his first game in person. I really liked Hammerin Hank too. Wynn played in that game and Aaron homered. Also Jim Bouton was the winning pitcher and I believe he won just one more game in his career after that. Braves were getting clobbered, so Dad led us out of Fulton County Stadium before the 9th inning. Then we heard all kinds of noise in the parking lot. Turns out the Braves got several runs in the 9th, but still lost by a few. We listened on the radio. I just couldn’t understand why Dad did that.

If you were pals with Colbert who attended Sumner, you’re a bit longer in the tooth than I am, but when I attended Southwest HS, Sumner HS was our primary HS football rival in the early to mid 70’s. Both teams would always be undefeated until meeting and the winner of that game would normally end up playing for the Mo. 4A State Championship. Usually against a team from the KC area, but Jefferson City had a very good team back then too. My HS football coach was Tony Antone who was a good friend of my granddad and my HS baseball coach was a guy named Clayton Wallach. Wallach was also my US history teacher. Man, seems like the other day!

Pugs…one summer at vacation bible school, playing volleyball I tripped and was heading face first to the pavement I guess I was about 9. He was in the row behind me.
Somehow he caught me with one hand and returned the ball with the other. He was about 14 and FULL GRQWN
Edman with a 360 spinning field and throw for the out in the 7th. A nice play, though somewhat routine for him. Is that the highlight of the game for the Redbirds?
Speaking of high school, think back to your class seating arrangements. I ALWAYS had to be sitting in the very back. I went to 4 different high schools……. Janesville Craig, Whitefish Bay high, Brush high and Solon high, and 3 of those moves were in the middle of the year. But when I walked into that room I would make a bee-line for the rear desks…… that’s generally where the hip people could be found. One exception though……my very first class at Brush high and I headed to the back to take a seat…..and the area was absolutely teeming with these nerdy guys…..I just remember throwing my hands up into the air and saying “what in the heck is going on here”?
Back row is always a good choice.

EuroDandy…When I was in my early 30’s, I took my two young visiting nephews from Mrs.1TD’s side of the family to their first Big League game. It was late in the game and the Cardinals were getting trounced by the then led by Bonds and Bonilla Pirates. I didn’t really want to hang around, but they were having fun and there was no way I was going to leave early. At that time I was about a year or two from snagging my first foul ball. The older of those two little sons of guns got a foul ball off the bat of Sid Bream in the 8th inning of his FIRST ballgame…Haha!

1td, my best buddy from late-teen years went to college where Bream went and knew him well. Said he was a great guy.
Yep, Dad went down a notch in my eye that night in Atlanta. But he redeemed himself later by taking me to more Braves games–he was a big Braves fan. I did have a sincere, but very respectful, conversation with him that I didn’t think it was a good idea to leave games early. He never did it to me again, lol.

EuroDandy…I almost got burned real bad by leaving a game early one time. I was with my brother and my son and I wanted to go with the Cardinals down a few runs late. We got to his car and turned on the radio and they started to make a comeback and got real close, but barely missed pulling it off. I’d have never heard the end of it if they had. I was a little happy they lost the game…
