Pugs…Probaly not, but O’Neill was made entirely of genuine guts. On a side note, for quite a while I’ve felt that the HOF should make an exception to the 10 years of service rule for Thurmon Munson. He’s a HOF’er in my view.

Hmm…I just checked and Munson had 11 years service in the Big Leagues. I was falsely under the impression that the primary reason he wasn’t yet a HOF’er was that he hadn’t satisfied the 10 year rule. In any case, he was only 32 when he died. With an AL MVP, 3 GG’s at the C position, a .292 career BA, 2 world championships and 3 AL pennants, I feel he should be in there. An outstanding baseball player and the leader and lynch pin of those Yankee teams of the mid 70’s.

Totally agree with Thurman Munson, TD. When he died it was one of those rare occasions where I recalled exactly where I was when first hearing of the person’s death. When I first heard of Thurman’s passing, I was sitting in the back of a car on vacation, on the way to a restaurant in Laguna Beach, CA.

Very true TD. Gehrig’s numbers, as incredible as they are, would have been even greater if his career and life had not been tragically cut short.

Cubs now with a 2-0 lead on the Brewers in the bottom of the 5th at Wrigley Field.

Hmmmmm……I hope the Cubs aren’t getting hot just as we head to their place.

Cubs getting hot?……..I wouldn’t worry too much about that, Rat.

Pugs…Yeah, I can’t say I recall precisely where I was, but I distinctlty remember hearing the sad news during the regular season the year after watching the Yankees win 2 WS in a row vs. the Dodgers. He was just as much the face of the Yankees during that era as anyone. I had recently turned 21 and was just beginning to suspect that life can be unfair. Munson’s sad passing was one of the first of many things that began to confirm that suspicion.

Top of 1. Merrill Kelly going for AZ this afternoon. Merrill was drafted in the 37th round of the 2007 draft by Baltimore…..but did not sign on the dotted line. Then he was selected in Round 22 of the 2009 draft by Cleveland….but once again did not sign. Then Merrill was tabbed in Round 8 of the 2010 draft by Tampa……and finally came to terms contractually. This crafty veteran is 33-32 lifetime with a 1.2 WHIP, all with Arizona. He’ll turn the calendar for the 34th time this coming October…..looks like we’re ready to play a little baseball, gang.

Nooty gets his teeth into one to deep right…..back to the wall and bombs away baby! Leadoff home run Lars Nootbar.

Donovan rolls a slow one out towards the middle of the diamond where Perdoma races in to glove and his throw to 1st will not be in time…. infield hit.

Goldy rips a line drive to center for a base hit….Donovan halting his progress at 2nd base.

Arenado fists a base hit to center and Donovan has been given permission to head on home….and the throw won’t get him….2-0 Birds with Goldy moving on up to 3rd base.

Gorman hits a hard grounder but right at Walker at 1st and he’ll turn that into a double play, but at least Goldy will scamper on home with Redbird run #3.

    O’Neill strikes out swinging.

Redbirds set up a nice little 3 run ambush in the 1st to greet Kelly.

You know, even after all of these years, just looking at the beautiful Cardinal uniform sends an exhilarating shiver smack dab down the middle of the spine….. especially when we’re playing baseball like this.

Quintana gives up two base hits in the bottom of the first, but then a pitchers third best friend(double play) gets him out of the pickle with no damage incurred.

Yep, those digs are the best in Bigs. Especially at home and I miss the road navy blue caps, but I think they still wear them when they play the Reds and Nats. I wonder why they limit that to those two road opponents?

Dan just pointed it out on the broadcast, but yeah, Gio turned in some nice work last night. Hope it continues.

    Top of 2.

Dickerson rolls a grounder out to Rojas at 2nd base and that’ll pose no difficulties for Cookie Jr. as he’ll toss it on over to Walker’s waiting mitt at 1st base for the out

DeJong goes the other way and lines a base hit to right.

Knizner taps a grounder right back to where it originated from and Kelly will wheel around and fire it to Perdomo at 2nd for one and over to Walker at 1st base for two.

You are the master of abbreviations, TD. I wouldn’t put it past you to one day lay an entire sentence with nothing but abbreviations on us.

I wish we had a fresh Neil Pallante available out in the pen today, as it looks like Quintana won’t be seeing the 6th inning today.

Good start for the offense but rough start for Quintana. It’s taken 40 pitches to get 4 outs.

Lot of “Jordan’s” in the game today. Seems like a couple of years ago there were a bunch of “Tyler’s”. Now it’s Jordan. There was a time where Willie was the go-to name.
