MrperkinsParticipantReading this recap late and have a couple comments. To TD: the reason Merril Kelly didn’t get his MLB start until age 30 is he spent some years perfecting his art in the far east before getting a deal to return stateside. To those who speak ill of fried chicken livers: you would be surprised at the number of folk who partake in this treat. Having worked in a grocery store for a decade I can tell you that the older generations of rural folk love this delicacy. I would wager it started in making use of every piece of meat when times were tough during war and the depression. To those brave enough to partake in their elders’ traditions, the following is just as strident. My own wife orders them in restaurants. I’d try them, but if I like them it is just another greasy, salty food I don’t need. Next, to Puggs: You are killing me on the usage of the word Mosey. There is no Z in there, especially not double Z’s!!! I love talking about people moseying along with the best of them but we have to use the proper spelling! Finally, great to see Straton be somewhat uneventful for a bit, even if it got sketchy at the end

MrperkinsParticipantI should add one final chicken liver note. If buying raw, they are excellent catfish bait. Often times at more rural stores, you will see the lids of the product be dirty, often from chicken blood. That’s because the meat shop guys just shove ’em in tubs without the usual sanitary concerns. Another thing, fried chicken livers (and gizzards) is more an old lady treat than old men. I guarantee that if you walk into the common area of a rural nursing home in southern Missouri and announce you have Livers and Gizzards you are going to make some lady friends.

stlcard25ParticipantIt seems pretty likely that the starters will be Montgomery, then Waino and Hudson for the DH, then regular rest for Mikolas and Quintana for the final two games. You’d think Woodford would be available to pitch a bit if needed. Hopefully Helsley is back.
August 22, 2022 at 6:57 am #196982Mikolas is going Wednesday and Hudson is starting Thursday vs. Stroman. So Tuesday’s second starter remains a question. With the 27th man for the DH, it could be a Memphis callup for the day. Liberatore last pitched on the 18th so would be ready. That is my bet.

LOL Cardinal In France! Mr. Perkins is certainly passionate about his chicken livers. Almost to the point that it makes me think Mr. Perkins has a vested interest in either a chicken liver establishment or chicken liver commodities that he’s not presently disclosing to his pals here at The Cardinal Nation. And Mr. Perkins……what was the name of that movie again? I’m taking the day off from the salt mines today, so I have all day to finally watch it.

ParticipantBrian, I wouldn’t bet on Libby. He has looked terrible. Having a good game and then 2-3 bad ones sandwiched in between will/should not get you to MLB. He is still very inconsistent. I think he can be a MLBer, but still needs plenty of work, he should not be rushed.
Woodford threw 17 pitches yesterday, very effective. He will be in line to start the second game at Wrigley.August 22, 2022 at 3:48 pm #197027Wow, that Umpire Scorecard is something. Man, glad they never had anything that detailed on my job. Then again, maybe I wish they did have it. The bulk of my career, other than about the last quarter of it, I felt under-employed. I was a lot better than the opportunities given – sort of a Jake Woodford of the accounting and finance world. But then again, I was biased in that viewpoint. 🙂
