Goldy with a shot to really bust the game open. Let’s go Goldy!

    Bottom of 5 (continued)

Donovan walks and that will cram the bases full with Cardinals with 2 out and Goldy on his way to the dish. Pitching change:

    Trivino now pitching for N.Y.

Goldy on 3-2 walks! 9-6 Good Guys…..that was the 7th free pass today that St. Louis has been the fortunate recipient of…… Christmas come early if you will….though this intense heat won’t be fooling anyone here in attendance of Santa’s early arrival.

Arenado strikes out swinging on a pitch well wide of the zone.

Shouldn’t be greedy I guess, but I sure was hoping Arenado would add a coupla more. Nonetheless, Rah Cardinals!

Fans getting their money’s worth in this one. It might take a dozen runs to win it.

This home plate umpire has missed more pitches than about any game I ever recall watching. He’s been horrible, but for both sides.

Where is Woodford when you need him?

Looks to me like Stratton pitches too straight up. I think he needs to push off and get down on his delivery and he could not only add a couple feet to his fastball, but probably get better command.

So Stratton is the right handed complement to McFarland. Sticking with him too long.

Stratton pitching for the Cards here in the 6th and Donaldson promptly pokes a base hit to right . Torres grounds it up the middle and past a diving DeJong and out into center field for a base hit….. Donaldson stopping at 2nd and here comes New York right back at us like a snarling pitbull…..down boy…down! Let’s think seriously about a pitching change here shall we? Benintendi on 3-2 is called out on strikes on yet another in a long line of questionable home plate ump verdicts ….this was a sweet one though. I’ll tell you what …..if I were in a burning building with this home plate ump and he raced off to his right…. without thinking I would run off to my left. Hicks lines a base hit to right….. Donaldson will halt his progress at 3rd base, so we have the bases loaded to the gills with Yanks and just one out. Trevino lines it to right for a hit and everyone will move up one station again….9-7 Cards your updated score. Gonzalez grounds it slowly to Edman at 2nd and he’ll get just the one out at 2nd base as another Yankee runner will tickle home plate and it’s now 9-8 Birds……and Stratton is finally getting the hook.

    Pitching change:

Jordan Hicks on for St. Louis with runners on the corners with 2 out.

Lemahieu on 3-2 drills a hotshot grounder ticketed for right field but Goldy makes a sparkling play to rob him…..oh my that was too close to disaster and we’ve been flirting with it all afternoon

I’m afraid this Stratton guy – despite the small sample size – does not inspire confidence.

What did they expect with Stratton? 5.07 ERA with Pittsburgh. Gave up
50 his in 40 2/3 innings before coming over.

I don’t mind Stratton at all. I haven’t been impressed with the pen handling at all. Wainwright shouldn’t have started the 5th. Should have snuck an inning of McFarland or went with Packy. Stratton pitch count was already higher getting out of the 5th and sat a long time while they were batting. If he was sticking with Stratton he should have had Donaldson and Torres only and then again try to get something out of McFarland when Benintendi comes up, or Hicks is obviously available and starting the 6th with him would have been a better option.
Not cutting ties with McFarland is proving a problem in games like this when Thompson or Fernandez would be valuable, but instead you have a pitcher out there you’re scared to get into a game.

Bottom of 6. Wandy Peralta center stage for N.Y.

O’Neill flies out to right field over near the chalk.

Nooty chops it to Torres at 2nd and he’ll quickly toss it on over to Lemahieu’s waiting mitt at 1st for two quick outs here in the Redbird 6th…..and have we had a 1-2-3 frame yet in this ballgame? I think not, but will have to check on that.

DeJong walks and he’s been accruing a few of those since coming back up ….keep it up Paulie

Yadi flies out to Benintendi in extremely short left field to retire the side without much incidence.

Stratton didn’t walk anybody. There’s that.

Hicks still pitching in the 7th. Anyone having the over on the over/under of total runs scored in this game, is in pretty fair shape. What a far cry from last night’s game.

    Judge strikes out swinging.

Carp lines a shot….that Goldy leaps high to pluck out of thin air for the out and boy is Goldy putting on a fielding clinic here this afternoon…..you know, one of these years Goldy is going to hang them up 🙁

    Donaldson strikes out looking.

That pitch right a the bottom of the zone has rung up a lot of guys on both sides today yet they act surprised. The pitch at the top has been a ball all day but the pitchers act surprised.

Imagine if neither of them could talk and Dan didn’t have obviously fake enthusiasm for no reason at all. Oh yeah, I said I wouldn’t complain about Dan anymore after that Apple TV broadcast, sorry Dan.

Bottom of 7. Wandy Peralta still New York’s main man.

    Edman strikes out swinging.

Carlson grounds it past the mound….Torres gloves it and fires it on a dime to Lemahieu at 1st base to just nip the fleet footed Redbird center fielder….nice play.

Donovan on 3-2 grounds out to Gonzalez at SS to retire the side in order and wouldn’t it be something to come away with 3 one run victories in this series vs the Yanks.

Was looking in the freezer for a snack and saw these orange fruit bars. So I was like, “Think I will have an orange fruit bar”, and realized that sounds a like like “Lars Nootbaar.” 😀

If this is another game we give away, where Woodford and Thompson might have made a difference, you wonder how long until the FO figures it out.

No guarantees of course, but statistically those two have been better than some guys we have. Plus we are handcuffed to a degree because Ollie does not want to use McFarland in a close game.

Packy Naughton on to pitch for the Cards here in the top of inning #8. Packy has indeed earned much trust this year.

Torres drills a base hit to center.

Benintendi on 3-2 strikes out looking…..Packy was 3-0 with the count and came roaring back to get him.

Hicks flies out to Nooty in straightaway right field.

And Packy has to pack it in…..great job once again by Packy.

    Pitching change:

Ryan Helsley on for the Cards.

Trevino….and the home plate ump just got nailed badly by a wicked foul tip…..Yadi quickly grabs him to keep him from hitting the turf … hopefully he’s ok….game delay as the Cardinal medical staff attends to him….and he elects to remain in this game….. he’s a tough cookie….his eyes are a bit weak today, but fortunately he’s ok and ready to resume arbiting responsibilities. Trevino flies out to Nooty in right to retire the side.

Ooo, that looked like a concussion that the home plate ump got on that foul straight back. He was stunned.

He is going to hang in there.

The Brewers lose. We should win the division. I don’t think we will get far in the playoffs because of the pitching.
