I think we have every chance to make Bowden’s prediction come true.

Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA projects the Cardinals to finish 66-96 in last place. 0% chance of winning the division and 0.2% of taking a wild card.

If they don’t lose 100+ that might be considered a win at this point, sadly true.

Yeah, any win total from 61 to 81 seems entirely possible and pretty easy to argue for.

71 wins seems like a good middle ground prediction?

I’m with ya ZTR, still hoping they overpay for Coulume for a deadline trade candidate and move Jojo before ST is over.

I’m curious if Z Thompson is looking healthy, would definitely be a good LHRP option if he is healthy.

I tend to be more optimistic.
We have a nucleus of good hitters in Herrera, Winn and Burleson. Shoould the high cieling guys Walker and/or Gorman suddenly begin to reach thier lofty cieling it could become a producctive lineup. Nootbars return to form could also be a factor. Scott is another key. He scores a high percentage of the time when he gets on base, just has to get on base more. If he does, a major boost to the offense. Joshua Baez is the top hope from the minors but another high ceiling guys. It appears high ceiling performers is a major goal of the management team, a 180 degree change from the Mo era.

A lot of question marks on the pitching side. Will May be healthy and will a healthy May be what he appeared to be as a young Dodger. Will Liboratore refine his game to reach his potential. Will McGreevy continue to be a plus .500 pitcher, will Pallante find his way. Will O’Brien and Svanson continue their good perfromance from 25. Will Fitz, Dobbins, and relief depth acquired add any thing significant. Romero should be solid if still with the team. I believe Leahy will contribut as a starter or reliever.

A lot of potential help from the minors. Mathews, Cijntje, Hjerpe, Mautz, Roby, Hence and Henderson if healthy. Doyle if he forces them to bring him up with a great AA-AAA performanc.

We enter the season with low expectations but a fair amount of potential upside. Teams that outperform expectations usually have a lot of pleyers having one of their best seasons. We have a fair chance of doing just that.

There’s still some time to go but I’d peg the NLC win totals as something like Chicago 91, Milwaukee 88, Cincinnati 82, Pittsburgh 78, St Louis 66 right now. Give me 6 wins on either side of that as an error depending on the team.

I am thinking 70 wins if injuries are ‘average’. If we get lucky on the pitching side like last year, and position players don’t get decimated, 75. If injuries are worse, especially starters, 65.

70 wins seems about right. If they have some surprises, maybe 75.

Problem with the brewwers philosophy is that it doesnt work in post season. For them, the wait to next year slogan always applies

29 teams are disappointed every season. I bet Bill DeWitt would be very happy with winning the division each year with a bottom 5 payroll whether it ends with a world series title or not.

I think around 70 wins is reasonable. I still see us as last in the division, with the Pirates much improved and perhaps above .500. If Griffin can stick and become a legitimate star at a young age, and their starting pitching is healthy they just might be in contention for the division title.

Unfortunately we look to be an easy pick to hold up the rest of the division. But it is also reasonable to expect that this will be our worst year of the next 3 to 5 seasons.

I haven’t thought about the division title much because I don’t think we will contend for it. We are still in sell mode for our long term goals which also complicates predicting the seasons W/L record.

As a “next man up” roster, where the seperation between our regulars and hopefuls is incremintal, an “ace” or “middle order bat” injury to this roster isn’t as devastating. I do like that each “next man up”, all 40 of them, have upside. How many break out? I predict a 82-80 stl record by seasons end. Sometimes my heart gets to type too! ☕

The good news is it takes a long time to rack up 81 losses.

Less long if you’re the Rockies.

The good news is that there’s a reasonably low probability that this year’s Cardinal edition won’t break the team record for losses which is on the books at 111 L’s and was set in 1898. I don’t think they’ll win that many either…

Its not going to be anything like that TD. I doubt anyone steps up to replace Gray as a difference maker, but the step down will be incremental, and we also got rid of some bad pitching. Donovan’s 64 runs scored/50 RBI will probably be largely replaced.

Gray, Contreras and Donny’s contributions helped lead us to a 51-46 first half W/L. By the deadline we were 55-55.
The 2nd half we were 27-38.

Mikolas and Gray were bad the 2nd half, each w/13 GS, toss-up. Pages out-hit Donny and started 10 more games the 2nd half. Contreras led the lineup the 2nd half.

We have 1st half production that needs replaced. With only Contreras producing the 2nd half of those who were dealt, leading to a -11 w/l.

We may have dealt Gray at the right time. His 2nd half has many red flags.

I’d take the over on Wetherholt HRs, RBI, and runs. I’d take the over on Liberatore wins as well. The other projections all seem reasonable.
