stlcard25ParticipantWell, can Reyes set the last three down without much drama? It would be good to just have an easy 9th.
September 30, 2020 at 7:55 pm #142941I know what term to use for a 5 strikeout game.
PITIFUL!!!!!

September 30, 2020 at 7:56 pm #1429428 of the 9 hitters in the #stlcards lineup have at least one hit or walk. Six have multiples. The 8 also have scored and/or have driven in at least one run. Bader has 5 Ks in 5 PAs.

September 30, 2020 at 7:56 pm #142943I hope we are warming both Gomber and Ponce. Can they warm that quickly?
September 30, 2020 at 7:58 pm #142944Isn’t 5 K’s a platinum sombrero?
September 30, 2020 at 7:58 pm #142945
jj-cf-stlParticipantthrow strikes, make them earn it
September 30, 2020 at 7:58 pm #142946You bet they can, So_Cal…… we’re in California.
September 30, 2020 at 7:59 pm #142947
stlcard25ParticipantOne out, two to go.
September 30, 2020 at 7:59 pm #142948And just consider this bullpen with Hicks next year.
September 30, 2020 at 8:00 pm #142949
stlcard25ParticipantNice play by Dejong! 2 out.
September 30, 2020 at 8:02 pm #142950Reyes retires the side in order and the Cardinals win!
September 30, 2020 at 8:03 pm #142951
stlcard25ParticipantBader makes the play to seal it. What a great win! Way to be, Cards! 1-0 series lead!
September 30, 2020 at 8:03 pm #142952
jj-cf-stlParticipantwell done boys
September 30, 2020 at 8:03 pm #142953We can erase one of Bader’s K’s with that nice little game ending catch. Truth be told, Bader can catch a ball hit like that in his sleep with ease.
September 30, 2020 at 8:04 pm #142954Reyes with the no-sweat save.
So Shildt does push all the right buttons. The Miller button felt like it had a little of the neighbor’s kid’s snot on it, but it worked out.
September 30, 2020 at 8:04 pm #142955Huge win. And a massive insurance RBI single by Fowler in the top of the ninth. Very good team win and great bullpen work. Now we need the old warrior Wainwright to close it out and happy flight to Texas.

ParticipantWant to compare their seasons, 25?
And I didn’t bring up the former Cardinal. You did. Why?September 30, 2020 at 8:05 pm #142957That was worth staying up until 3 a.m.! Gnite guys.
September 30, 2020 at 8:06 pm #142958
stlcard25ParticipantThe Cards are 1-0, so I don’t care one bit about their seasons. 😝
September 30, 2020 at 8:10 pm #142959How about Dylan Carlson today. Man that kid played a heck of a game. He is starting to figure it out. He was locked in. Outstanding young man. Keep it up.
September 30, 2020 at 8:10 pm #142960Goodnight CIF. Cook well for tomorrow’s game!
September 30, 2020 at 8:10 pm #142961Isn’t 5 K’s a platinum sombrero?
Good call. This from wikipedia:
The “Olympic Rings” or platinum sombrero applies to a player striking out five times in a game.
A horn refers to a player striking out six times in a game; the term was coined by pitcher Mike Flanagan after teammate Sam Horn of the Baltimore Orioles accomplished the feat in an extra-inning game in 1991. Alternate names for this accomplishment are titanium sombrero or double platinum sombrero.

jj-cf-stlParticipant24-1 when scoring 5 or more runs. That’s a pitch and defend badge of honor

Yeah, that was great to see. His at bats were almost all top quality. He never got anxious and swung at something he shouldn’t have except that last at bat, and he used the opposite field. Reminded me of the way Matt Carpenter used to hit.
September 30, 2020 at 8:13 pm #142964I am looking forward to the Brewers/Dodgers game here in about an hour. I’ll have my tuna salad sandwich, chili, and a piece of banana cream pie from the amish restaurant around first pitch. Then a cigar or two. Plus my old sidekick Whitey Herdog will be on the couch with me. After she gets her late night snack of Cesar’s beef, of course!
And I am calling this one 5-2 Brew Crew.
