Re 1968, McCarver believed/believes the Cards were the better team. They were up 3-1 but lost the series primarily due to Tigers P Mickey Lolich, who beat Bob Gibson in Game 7 on just two days rest. What could have been the first clincher, Game 5, could have swung when Lou Brock didn’t think he needed to slide at home and was tagged out on a great throw. Normally an excellent defender, Curt Flood misplayed a key fly ball in CF in Game 7. The Cardinals had never lost a Game 7 in team history until then.
I thought that the big deal was that even ‘home’ teams would be quarantined for the last week of the season. Does that not apply to Detroit if those games are played?
