41-Joerlin De Los Santos. Speed, good average…could be a keeper down the line.

42-Alvaro Seijas. He has a power arm and an excellent curve, but somewhat like Oviedo, some control issues have hurt him. Still, he was 19 and pitched at Peoria, so that counts for something. Seeing his strikeout stuff reappear at Palm Beach would be an encouraging sign.

43-Austin Warner. He’s a bit old for a prospect at 24, but the lefty was moved up the ladder as far as Memphis after being a stud at Palm Beach to start the season. He might be a back end starter in the making if it all comes together, or perhaps a LOOGY.

44-Chase Pinder. A couple of OFers come up next. Pinder made it all the way to Springfield this year, although he didn’t look great there. His OBP profile looks excellent, but there’s not a lot of power there and he’s not hit for a very high average either. Perhaps starting at Springfield will provide a boost to his bat.

45-Scott Hurst. He put up a very solid line at Peoria and mashed in a short look at Palm Beach. He’s a decent defender, doesn’t strike out a lot. I have him behind Pinder only because he’s a level behind at the same age. He probably has the higher ceiling though.

    #41 – Jake Dahlberg, lhp
An exciting prospect on the upswing.

    #42 – Connor Jones, rhp

    #43 – Scott Hurst, of

    #44 – Chris Ellis, rhp
Forgotten man as the “other” guy in the Gant trade. He could still help us in the future.

    #45 – Anthony Shew, rhp
Past articles have touted his arsenal of 4-5 pitches and his toughness. He is getting up in age, but should reach Memphis sometime next season with an outside shot at the bigs.

    41. Hurst – Our 2017 3rd rounder hit .312/.389/.447 on the year and really did well after his promotion to Palm Beach. Thought he would have been ranked by now.

    42. Nogowiski – A little old as a 25 year old at AA but the 1B did slash .309/.392/.463 there and had almost twice as many walks as strikeouts (41:21) to make for an intriguing bat to watch next year.

    43. Roel Ramirez – The least touted prospect from the Pham trade but the reliever spun a 2.95 ERA while striking out 70 in 64 innings. Interested to see what he does once the 23 year old AA’er settles into the Cards organization.

    44. Morales – This late in the rankings I like to skim through the upper levels to see if there are any relievers that we could see in St. Louis the following season. Easy to forget Morales was once a 2nd round comp pick but he did have a 3.88 ERA in 60 innings at AAA with 69 Ks. The righty has actually done better against lefties the last two seasons, holding them to a sub .200 batting average.

    45. Mateo Gil – I’m leaning a lot into pedigree here, both his 3rd round pick status as well as his dad being a former major leaguer. He’s young, just turned 18 in July and the 6’1 180 pounder should have some decent power as he hits the weight room which would be nice for a player Randy Flores mentioned is expected to stick in the middle of the infield.

Last year we went to 65

We had 17 voters last round so I will likely end it when (past 50 of course) we start getting voters tapering off. I don’t mind going on to say 75 if we have the participation, but once it gets to where two voters can single-handely select someone, it’s a little pointless imo.

I’d love to see the day when the voter count stays high enough for us to hit 100. The Cards have the quality number of prospects, but the big question looms….do we posters have the stamina and heart to make it to 100???? I predict that we accomplish the feat in 2023.

Pads thanks so much for posting my picks for me while I was away. I’ll be around to post the next picks.

Speaking of international signings, Baseball America is listing Jesus Rojas (C) as a signing and they’ve have him listed since the first day of this signing period.

Wiley, could you explain more about this so called trade bias you mentioned while I was a gone? I’m not sure I understand what your implying.

Sorry for the delay. Been traveling back to Japan this week.
    41. Scott Hurst – Big arm, good speed, good hit tool. Feels like a typical Cardinal who, barring injury, has a floor of a 4th OF for the big club, but if the power picks up…could be something special. Feels a little higher than a 40’s prospect to me.

    42. Alvaro Seijas – Great pure stuff. Needs to control his stuff a little better. If the walks come down in Palm Beach this year, he should shoot up the rankings and, with Oviedo hopefully, give the Cards two great pitching prospects that should be ready when the big league club needs a few more cost controlled arms.

    43. Victor Garcia – Really wanted to put him in my top 30. So many bright prospects in the rookie leagues in my opinion. Said to have big power when he was signed in 2016. Hasn’t grown into it yet, but did hit well in GCL last year. I’ll be keeping an eye on him this year. An outfield of Garcia, Fuller and Torres possibly in JC could be built for power.

    44. Casey Meisner – Started rough, but had a better end of the year. Big guy who pitches down hill, but doesn’t have the big fastball you’d expect from his size. Pretty good numbers last year, but seemed a bit inconsistent. Probably starts at Springfield and moves up to Memphis as the shuttle starts running.

    45. Connor Jones – Showing pretty well in the AFL. May have one more chance to prove he and his bowling ball fastball can carry as a starter, but really needs a reliable third pitch.

This is where the depth really shows. I’ve got probably 20 more guys who you could put in the top 50.

    41) Joerlin De Los Santos
Top 300 overall prospect for me, and #16 among Redbirds, DLS stole 30 bases in 64 games, posting the highest Speed Score of any Dominican Summer League 18-and-under player with a wRC+ of 150 or better. If not for Malcom Nunez, Joerlin would have received a great deal more attention this year.

    42) Scott Hurst
Baseball Prospectus and Clay Davenport like the defense in both Center and Right. Looks like a prototypical 4th/5th outfielder, but he’s got to stay healthier. Likeliest outcome: Shane Robinson redux, and that’s a mighty fine bench guy for a few years.

    43) Derian Gonzalez
Promising reliever was off to an excellent start in AAA, and had permitted just 1 hit over his previous 8 innings, when his otherwise intelligent manager left him in to throw nearly 50 pitches in one stint. And that was that. Never really healthy again until months later; missed 8 weeks on the DL in total. Candidate for the 2019 Cardinal bullpen. But then, aren’t we all?

    44) Ramon Mendoza
Another Dominican Summer League guy, 5′ 11″ native Mexican Mendoza split his time evenly between 2nd and 3rd base, logging a tremendous 162 wRC+ at age 17 despite batting just .154 against lefties. (Ramon hits righty by the way, so this problem should not persist — at least not to this degree.)

    45) Julio Rodriguez
Off year at the dish, but the backstop showed potential behind it once again, gunning 47% of stealers (after 48% last year) and cutting his passed balls down to a quite acceptable level. The errors have always been low, leading to a solid backup MLB projection, with the possibility for more. Turned 21 this summer and could see AA by the end of 2019. Real good sleeper.

    46) Julio Rodriguez, 3rd best catching prospect in Cards minors, IMO
    47) Jesus Cruz, live arm/ high strikeout rate, still a starter
    48) Yariel Gonzalez, versatile defensively, hits well
    49) Andrew Warner, hit very well in GCL, cooled down at JC
    50) Julio Puello, exciting young DSL prospect, likely in States next year

    46. Gil .340 OBP while 2.7 years younger than league average. 3rd round pick. 17 year old season.

    47. Machado – #21 last year. Struggled at higher levels but league avg in the Appy league. I think he turns out at least as good as Sierra.

    48. Ju Rodriguez – good hit tool, improving defense. What is not to like?

    49. Ellis – was ranked ahead of Gant at one time. Still has a chance to put it together.

    50. Soler – 174 wrc+ in the DSL. (Same as Del los Santos) Got rare call up from DSL to GCL and held his own. Just 18.
    Projected to add power.
