30. CedenoOctober 4, 2018 at 9:28 pm #71787#26 – Gallegos
I guess I’m the only one pushing this guy this high, but he is at least a known quantity. We know he can pitch in the majors because he’s done it.#27 – Edmundo Sosa (again)
#28 – Seth Elledge (again)
#29 – Connor Capel (again)
#30 – Patrick Wisdom
He’s already accomplished more than some of the guys being mentioned ever will. He’s now a bonafide major leaguer even though he’ll probably be playing for someone else next year. I think he deserves to be ranked. JMOOctober 5, 2018 at 3:03 am #7179126. Jhon Torres – Excited about this guy. Anxious to see if he hits in spring training like he did this year and possibly gets the GCL to Peoria test that Machado and Montero received.
27. Delvin Perez – This should be the year he turns the corner as his attitude and maturity have improved. Or not.
28. Connor Capel – Didn’t really take off after the change of systems. Should improve with a year in the system and hopefully being paroled from the pitcher friendly Florida State League.
29. Junior Fernandez – Still a live arm that needs control. Came back from injury and pitched inconsistently and with very low strikeout numbers. If he transitions back to the rotation and can harness the live arm, he goes back to the top 20. If he’s another wild bullpen arm then he drops again in my mind.
30. Leandro Cedeno – He’s done nothing but hit the last couple of years and this year added power. OF/1B type whose bat will have to carry him. But really looked good with my hometown JC Cards this year.

stlcard25Participant#26-Steven Gingery. A mid rotation lefty? I’ll take that at this point, gladly. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from TJ this coming year.
#27-Johan Oviedo. I think the walks will get under control this coming year at Palm Beach and he may end the year at Springfield. He’s part of the next wave of starters that the Cards are depending on stepping up to fill voids in the next few years.
#28-Jhon Torres. This is around where I would have had Malcom Nunez, but since the group really liked him, I never got to cast a vote. I don’t want to miss the boat on this one. Torres was the steal of the Mercado trade, and may turn into a starting right fielder with plus potential. Still a very long ways off and who knows where the Cardinals will place him for 2019. Peoria is possible but it seems like State College or Johnson City would be the safe bet.
#29-Ramon Urias. He can hit, has some versatility…but will he be in the system this time next year? He could be another Allen Cordoba or Eli Alvarez that we all rued losing, that didn’t really amount to much. But he could be more. I’m intrigued.
#30-Alex Fagalde. Do the Cards have the next Kyle Hendricks here? He doesn’t throw gas, is old for his level, but “all he does is win.” His stint at Palm Beach was the first stop where his ERA has poked over 3, and his WHIP has generally been very good as well. Guys like this need everything to go right to have success, but if it does he could be a #4/5 starter.

ParticipantBlackHillsCard’s picks:
#26 -Conner Capel, OF
#27 – Steven Gingery, LHP
#28 – Conner Greene, RHP
#29 – Giovanny Gallegos, RHP
#30 – Edmundo Sosa, SSOctober 5, 2018 at 9:45 am #71804crap…i had assumed when i was out for a week that Gallegos got picked!!
If i can change my vote for this round id prefer to put Gallegos as high as possible and drop Santos
I really like Gallegos
October 5, 2018 at 10:20 am #7181314NyquisT
ParticipantThere was no reason to assume Gallegos would have been picked. The round before your skipped week Gallegos was selected by one participant and none prior to that. IMO, changing selections sets a bad precedent.
October 5, 2018 at 10:32 am #71817so people arent allowed to reconsider before final tallying for the group of 5?
When did you become the rules maker
I also said “if i can change” giving ultimate decision to Pads
and i am allowed to assume he was picked if i want Ny…i figured he was a solid 15-20 pick…i could care less if you think there was “no reason” to or not… you dont get to decide what people think or want to do…i could assume whatever i want and you get NO say in that or not
as for it setting precedent…again, not your call at all
October 5, 2018 at 11:33 am #7182214NyquisT
ParticipantHey, calm the hell down… I stated “IMO”. certainly you must know what that means. I am sick of your attacks on others offering an opinion that doesn’t fit your liking.
As for changing your vote…. you voted less than a day ago. Was it divine intervention, because the lame excuse you gave, imo, doesn’t hold water.
Take your trash talking rants over to your major topic. IMO, you are nothing more than an immature cry-baby and never miss a chance to whine and attack. “I coudl assume” “I could assume” try assuming something else. I think Pads will allow your change so don’t run out of tears.
IMO… your little temper tantrums are not worth responding to. I did so this time because you went over board with your pathetic remarks. I could go on but I don’t want to waste time on the likes of you. I know pre-adolescents that present themselves better than you.
October 5, 2018 at 3:17 pm #71847I will take my rants wherever i want… you chose to attack me not the other way around
and YOU are the one name calling…
i figured Gallegos was already chosen, I didnt go back and look. I did make a mistake by assuming that. I admit that. I could care less whether you believe my excuse or not and whether it is “IMO” or not doesnt matter at all to me…you can believe whatever you want…that really is fine, bhut i dont have to sit and not react to a personal attack on me
—
Gallegos getting called up and being babied a bit at MLB even though he did so well at AAA and being a key component of a recent trade made me assume that…maybe that isnt enough for anyone else, but i assumed he was already up there… if you don’t liek it…fine…but i dont care…and i wont be bullied into not asking for a change….i was wrong…so i asked to make the change… you attacked me for doing so…i questioned why your opinion should stop me from requesting that info…you launch a series personal attacks at me
IMO…you are the one that derailed this topic by attacking me and my right to post which asked Pads NOT YOU to make an amendment as a result of my admitted mistake… you are the one who felt the need to try to attack me… you believe YOUR petty little attacks should allowed to exist without defense…and you get all defensive when they are.
I present myself exactly the way i want (most of the time)…i am honest, am willing to be wrong, and defend myself when attacked by bullies. I am overjoyed that you and i don’t get along and that you dont like the way i present myself. That only validates that i am doing something right. If I got along with you, i would feel terrible about myself.
—
Pads…dont feel obligated to accept my changes based off of my mistake, I made them and i get it if they cant or shouldnt be accomodated. I lost track of things when i was out, and this was the result. There are consequences, i only tried to be up front about my mistake.—
I will not respond further to this line of discourse anymore, and will do my best to not comment on Ny’s remarks in general. And i apologize to others who have had to read it, Brian, if you want to remove my posts i understand completely.October 5, 2018 at 6:46 pm #71865Very very ironic …..every now and then when I’m on this site, I ask myself “If I was in a foxhole and Charlie or the Taliban were encroaching with all guns a blazing, who from The Cardinal Nation would I want at my side”? Not one but two names always immediately spring forth….Jags and Nyquist…..Nyquist and Jags. And here those two are…both great guys with the common bond of loving the same baseball team with equal passion….both men, who if were in the company of one another at this very moment would most likely be down at the local pub as we speak, drinking cold one after cold one while watching the Brewers-Rockies game, having a gay old time. But here they are, bickering like mad dogs at each other….go figure as those two would have been the last two I would have figured to tangle.

Participant. And here those two are…both great guys with the common bond of loving the same baseball team with equal passion….
You’re right Pugs. I often think about this… we’re all die-hards of the same team. I would love to sit and talk with any Cards fan… especially the regs on this forum. If I ever get to spring training I’d definitely be looking to hook up with my buds here. If only….
October 6, 2018 at 12:45 pm #71900Will look forward to spring training too. Can’t wait to see Nyquist, Jags, BicycleMike and BobbyReed, arm in arm at the bar counter, singing “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”.
October 6, 2018 at 5:14 pm #71911In a saloon you’re more likely to find me singing David Allen Coe or Ray Charles or Bob Seger or George Jones than a Mel Torme holiday classic, Pugs. But it still sounds like fun anyway.
Open question to the Giovanny Gallegos enthusiasts:
What do you like best about Gallegos? I don’t dis-like him, but I also don’t quite get the appeal. Already 27 with a very limited MLB track record, and obviously a reliever only. Thanks in advance for the insights.
October 6, 2018 at 5:56 pm #71912I personally am voting for Elledge and Greene ahead of Gallegos because I think they both have starter potential. However, I don’t think it is crazy to have Gallegos rated higher.
October 7, 2018 at 8:25 am #71936To Robert Reed:
(and everyone)What I like about Gallegos:
(1) He has actually climbed the ladder to reach the majors. He has accomplished what a lot of these other guys never will.
(2) i have seen him with my own eyes (albeit on TV). He has a good fastball and decent breaking ball which is what most relievers need to have success. AND he has shown them against major league batters with some success.
(3) Since coming to the Cardinals, he has totally dominated AAA statwise. Many of these guys y’all are naming didn’t even successfully navigate the level they were this year. Like Conner Greene. Almost the same number of walks as strikeouts at the two highest levels of the minors. He can’t throw strikes.
I am 60 years old and have been following the Cardinals for 50 of those years. For most of those 50 years, I have followed the farm system. I saw Andy Van Slyke at Gastonia NC. I saw Scott Rolen (as a Spartanburg Phillie). I saw John Mabry in 1991(?) with Savannah. I looked him up in Baseball America and he was not considered a prospect. I thought he was. I also thought Aaron Holbert and Allen Watson were good prospects. They turned out not to be. Look at Adam Ottavino. He went from top prospect to trash, and then to a valuable major league pitcher.
Everyone has their own way of ranking talent. I don’t have access to a Cardinal affiliate any more to personally scout these guys. I rely on TV, online video, and statistics. I consider where they were drafted, and how much bonus they received. But I also give weight to success at each level.
In summary, I believe that Gallegos has a very good chance be a viable major league reliever. He is on the doorstep of it right now. If not for us, for somebody. As crowded as our 40 man roster is this fall, he might be outrighted. I recognize that. But if he is, I will follow him where he lands and fully expect him to contribute to that team. if a guy like Gallegos can’t break our Top 30 prospects, then we must have a heck of a farm system.
October 7, 2018 at 8:38 am #71938You have me convinced and I certainly trust your judgement, R.C. Gallegos will be found on my next ballot.

October 8, 2018 at 6:27 am #71989Ranking #20-#40 is really the sweetspot of our system I think. Our systems players ranked in this range have a relatively high probability of making the majors at some point and it is likely there are several starters among them. There is also little seperating most of them so it is nearly as likely that #40 has success as it is #20. What we lack in high end players we make up for in depth.
