Bunt could have been better but I think the main intention was to get Munoz to 2nd.
2 out hit would be nice
appreciate the aggressiveness from Fowler but still not a good play esp with Carp coming up.
I like Schildts aggressiveness on the base pads
Better AB from Munoz this time around..
Fowler’s hitting of late reminds me of Carp early in the season when he was going thru a slump. The outs were hard hit but always at somebody like in the 2nd. I feel it’s only a matter of time before those hard hits find holes like his last AB and come on a consistent basis.
Martinez makes a good defensive play. saved a run. Haven’t said that much this year.
Not a good call to swing 3 and 0. of course if Pham gets a hit… it becomes a great call.lol
nice piece of hitting from Martinez and Ozuna.
reminds me when Fowler hit that game winning homer off Heywards glove back in April. Not a homer but a triple works
Paul De has been due for awhile
They need to take advantage of those opportunities. Agreed NJ…
strong 2nd.
Great premonition rats.
These recent moves have shown me that not only are the Cardinals playing for the future but that the FO has not given up on the season just yet. Great trade getting a top 10 prospect for tui which opened up a spot along with other moves that opened 3 more spots allowing us to strengthen are depleted bullpen while getting a quality pitcher to make starts until Wacha, CMart, and waino. Return. I’m looking forward to the stretch run of the season. Not only for this season but what to look forward to in seasons to come.
You make some valid points Carioca. Although I can neither agree nor disagree with some of them but 1 I will not agree with is that we have no realistic chance of making the playoffs. This may be true but in my 35 plus years of watching baseball and following the Cardinals, I’ve seen some crazy things. I’ve seen the Giants with 9.5 game lead at the break only not to make the playoffs, a Cardinals team trail by 8.5 games entering September to only win the World Series. I’ve seen Cardinals teams start strong then finish weak, Cardinal teams to start week and finish strong and sometimes that strong finish leads to a post season run, sometimes it doesn’t but that’s the beauty of baseball. I will say we have more of a realistic chance to get in the playoffs as a wild card team and not via a division title but I don’t have any numbers or concrete proof that backs up that statement other than I am just a loyal Cardinals fan who believes and will never give up hope when we still have a fighting chance. I realize our play has been inconsistent through the first 102 games of the season and we’ve shown no signs of turning it around but as a loyal fan I believe we will and sooner than later whether we do or not remains to be seen. However with 60 games left, 4.5 games out for a wild card spot and playing the teams in front of us 28 more times… Am I giving upon the season? No freakin chance I will give up on my Cardinals because Like I said in 35 plus years, I have seen some crazy things happen especially in the stretch run.
Hamels is just more of a name now in comparison to when the Phillies were trying to trade him a few years back. Even we were seeking him in a trade. Other than the first year, he really hasn’t lived up to expectations with the rangers. In fact, I think the Phillies benefited more from that trade in the long run.
I’m with you Pugs… I too would like to see our youngsters get more playing time. It wont happen but I’d like to see for tomorrow’s game…. Weaver for 3 or PC 50, Poncedeleon for 2 or 30 pc, Gomber for 2 or 30 PC… Close it out with Hicks and Norris. For the past couple seasons, we’ve tried getting bullpen help through trades and free agency like Broxton, Cecil, and Holland but they come to us and never live up to what they did for their previous teams. In some cases they struggle with us and find success with other teams like Kelly, and cishek. I don’t know the status on either but Seig and Rose look better right now than Cecil and Holland.
I assume Micholas will pitch Saturday? Does anyone know if it will be Gomber.or Poncedeleon on Sunday??
The first couple months I felt Ozuna was just pressing, then there’s times where I think he may go on a little streak but thus far. Hes been a dud. However I still hold out hope that he’ll go on a many streak like carp and end up with 20-25 homers.
Big series against the Cubs this weekend. A sweep still gives us hope for a division title although slim. But with the wild card still within reach… A series win would help too as 28 of our remaining games are against teams ahead of us in the wildcard race as of today.
a win today leading into a weekend series against the cubs will be huge. These next 5 games will determine what we do at the trading deadline.
I already had gray hairs to start the season. The cardinals bullpen have added a few more.
Cubs losing in the 8th 5-1
Phew
