The last year Woodford was prospect eligible, 2020, here were the pre-season rankings.

    8. Woodford
    9. Rondon
    14. Oviedo

But as folks may recall, it was Oviedo who was chosen to step into the 2020 rotation when the COVID mess ensued, even though he was the least experienced of the three. That season, Oviedo’s ERA as a starter and Woodford’s as a reliever were very close – 5.47 vs. 5.57.

Glad Woody got a shot and did well.
Wonder if he’ll be in competition for the rotation spot next Spring.
Last night he pitched 5 1/3, gave up 4 hits and 1 run, but only struck out 1. Will lack of Ks hurt him in the long run?

With how he has been pitching over the last year, no way he shouldn’t be up helping the Cards win.

But it’s not his ERA or his WHIP that counts – the spin rate on that slider just hasn’t been what they have wanted.

Glad they were able to correct it after his performance down the stretch in 2021 (2.25 ERA), ST 2022 (1.50 ERA), and April 2022 (1.29 ERA).
