Wong is a very solid all around player. Unfortunately, he plays 2B and the Cards have a cheaper and adequate replacement. Unless he’d take a back loaded deal, signing him means one of Yadi or Waino is likely not coming back.
If the Cardinals remaining shopping list is Yadi, Waino, and a bat then Wong may be the bat. He goes back to 2B, Edman to 3B, and Carp to DH. I would be fine with that because I love defense. They should offer Wong a 2 yr/15M deal. $5M in 2021 and $10M in 2022.

Wong and Baez in the middle of the Cub infield would be dynamite. Let’s hope he does not go there! I hope we sign him back – one of my favorite Cardinals the last few years.
Another comment on Wong. In about 3000 plate appearances he has a 17 bWAR. His top season was 2019 with 5.2 bWAR.
Cardinal Hall of Farmer Tommy Herr accumulated 19 bWAR in about in about 1200 more PAs. His great 1985 season was worth 5.6 bWAR.
Wong’s value is under-appreciated. The club will see the difference in 2021 if Wong walks and Edman is the every day second baseman. If he goes to Chicago, we will be doubly hurt with their gain coupled with our loss. Maybe Edman will be better than I am assuming, but right now I do not see it.
If Wong does leave I wouldnt worry. We could bring back Tyler Greene. People thought he was just sooooo valuable. Maybe so because he did hit a double once.

I agree with all of this mike. I was thinking the other day about a Baez/Wong middle infield in Chicago. That would be spectacular defensively and I hope we don’t see it.

Dang, I would have been happy for him if he’d have went to a non division rival. I’m glad he got paid but hope his time in Milwaukee involves no team success.
Yeah, I don’t like this, but once the Arenado deal went down there was no way the Cardinals were going to commit to Kolten.
We will see if this comes back to bite us. Seems like Wong always hit well in that park, but then it seems the Cardinals in general hit well up there.
Tommy Edman breathes a sigh of relief. He’s our everyday 2ndbaseman now.
Carpenter becomes the all-around backup/utility player and pinch-hitter. Unless, of course, he beats out Arenado for the 3rdbase job this spring and Arenado becomes the all-around backup/utility player.

The house next door just went on the market and the wifey commented “wouldn’t that be something if your Cardinal(Wong) moved in”. I don’t know how I’d feel about that? If Kolten whacked a walk off dinger against our Birds, I just know that if I had a little of the Wild Turkey in my belly, I’d do a Justin Bieber on his house and egg the heck out of it.
I could see Edman doing well enough offensively. Halfway in between 2019 and 2020 say. Effective switch hitter. Swipe a base here and there. Needs to learn how to take a walk though. I’d like to see how his D develops as an everyday second baseman.
What Bling just said. Wong didn’t exactly light the world on fire his first few seasons. He swung for the fences way too often and it cost him and the club. Edman can’t hold Wong’s glove strap…..but then again not many can. But Edman will prove to be much the better hitter and I think a better gamer. I’d go to war with Edman vs Wong any day of the week.
Well personally I’m happy for wong. Where he went didn’t matter to me. The funny thing is wong worked to become a better player and he became it. Once he did it, the Cardinals chucked him. Personally I think you reward players who do that. The cardinals tend to reward players who clearly were getting worse like carpenter and fowler. I don’t think edman will be the better player of the two long term career view but with the lineup we have now, he might not have to be.
