LA, do you believe the 4 players I mentioned have the ability to be really good major Leaguers? If so, how long does it take to unlock that potential with the correct coaching? That’s not to say that I think anyone but Bloom could put those pieces in place. I don’t trust Mo to do it. That’s why I said it was the optimistic view.

Walker is so messed up right now, 2026 looks the earliest he can contribute.
Gorman can bounce back, he has the tools, he had put up one .800 OPS season…I am not sure whether it was mental or something went off kilter in his swing…
Liberatore – this was his best year as a Cardinal, and he was the worst member of the bullpen that was here for a full season.
McGreevey – seems to be already penciled in for a rotation slot next year.
But in general, I would think it would take at least one full season to begin showing results, and at least two to show measurable results. The full impact likely wouldn’t be realized until the players drafted in 2024 come up through the system.

This team has done half measure after half measure for a decade in the name of “competing every year” and it has finally caught up with them. I have been wanting a rebuild for several years but I know a certain percentage of the fan base will revolt. It would probably have been an easier sell if Bloom was becoming PBO now instead of a year from now but I’m sure he will be heavily involved in what happens the next 12 months, which is reassuring to me.
Lets not skim over Mo still being in charge GS. He’s in charge of the fire sale that Bill thinks reboots us. Hard pass, but i understand how a certain percentage can entertain that fairytell.
I’m not skimming over it. I said this project would be an easier sell if Bloom was taking over now instead of a year from now but it is what it is. Mo will be gone in 12 months. The rebuild is going to take longer han 12 months.
When you’ve told the league your broke, and acted like it, I wouldn’t expect full value in return as a desperate seller. Mo should expect take it or leave it offers.
Judging by Mo’s last deadline sell of 23′, we’re talking years and years to “fix the Cardinals”. I don’t know that i have the time to wait for some HS kid to save the day when he grows up!

We have a relatively inexperienced field management team.
The Cardinals have a strong trend where players have had early success and faded, subsequently performed well with other teams. That reflects on field management who should help them make adjustments for continued success.
Too many free agent contracts to performers who were once good but are coming off poor seasons and performed poorer yet for the Cardinals.
Mo hangs onto prospects until they have lost all value. think what we could have gotten for Carlson earlier in his career. Our management and scouts shoud know we have someone who is incapable of maintaining their good perforomance before others.
We once had a strong Latin program but it has faded badly. The Cardinals signed players who had the 5th highest total WAR in the majors in 2024. But we gave away over 90% of that productiion with little in return. I think Alex Reyes was the last Cardinal Latin signee who made the MLB or BA to 100 prospect list.
We have been trying to build a home run hitting team in a pitchers ballpark. Too many popups and strikeouts at critical times in the games.
It appears that Mo has relied heavily on the free agent draft as a source of talent while the leading teams use a more diversified approach. And it looks like that source is drying up for the Cardinals.
The quicker Mo goes the quicker this thing can be turned around. I don’t expect him to do much different or anything significant.
Unless Girsch provides some sort of expertise for the Cardinals, why keep him? Budget trimming should come from the front office, in addition to the roster. No need keeping legacies at this point. Not trying to be cold. Just want the best.
I think Mo, Girsh, and probably others in the front office are under contact and DeWitts are giving them the opportunity to find other employment but not paying them to leave. I expect Bloom with whatever his title is will be fully the final say in anything and over the new few years a lot of these advisory and special assistant jobs will be thinned out and a more streamlined front office.
As for how much this development improvement costs. I don’t know. I think many facilities will be upgraded, I think more more will be spent on minor league coaching and not just any warm body to fill a role I often feel some of these minor league coaches are, probably major league too the way I feel about Blake and Ward. Supposedly many teams have AI pitching machines that simulates spin rate and break of opposing pitchers and much more high technology training and analytics the Cardinals haven’t done.
I am fully embracing the rebuild and have agreed with gscotter it should have been done before now. I get people want a winner, Dewitts want people in the stands and money. But a thin system and mediocre big league play isn’t going to cut it at all. The returns for Arenado, Gray and Contreras won’t be anything special. Helsley might be OK but it 1 year of a RP inst bringing a ton. Fedde is 1 year. It’s going to be 2-4 years, but that’s how long it’s going to take to streamline the front office anyway and get things “Blooming” (yes bad pun).
I expect Arenado to be a Dodger. He’s from out there, will desire a winner to waive the no trade. Cardinals can take on Chris Taylor expiring contract with a few more A-A+ guys and be out of the contract and hope to have pieces for 3-4 years when they are fully ready. Could be the same type thing with Contreras. Maybe Seattle and take on Garver to off set some money. Hope those guys along with Mikolas and Matz can be tradeable come July too. But it is short term for Cardinals money hopefully to yield long term results and hopefully much more financially responsible front office spending and roster spending.I watched and listened to a portion of that presser and the image of a turkey never entered my mind, TC. Besides all the talk, what has actually happened so far is LaRocque and Girsch out of their jobs. Its a start. Not bad for one day after the season ends.

Guys are under contract and guys like Girsh are being reassigned to lesser roles until their contract runs out or they opt for different employment and the Cardianls don’t have to pay them. The same they did with Joe McEwing as bench coach and now special advisor in the front office. They are just waiting out his contract. I think a lot of these jobs are going to be thinned out over the next few years as these contracts run out and a more streamlined front office. Mo is still PBO, because he signed. He’s more overseeing now though and Bloom is the final word. They aren’t going to say Bloom is PBO of the future and let Mo make all the changes for going forward. Bloom is calling the direction this ship goes now.

For 2025, that is the arrangement, in fact. Mo is running baseball ops as always. On strategic decisions that affect the long run, he will consult with BDW Jr. and Bloom. Bloom runs player dev and performance.
In 2026, Bloom takes over as PBO.
667, I had the exact same thought regarding Arenado. Send him to the Dodgers for Chris Taylor and one of their top pitching prospects. Taylor can platoon with Gorman at 3B or with Siani at CF. He isn’t a very good player anymore but if we can snag a top Dodger prospect it would be worth it.
I don’t think they will have any problems trading Gray and Contreras. There should be plenty of interest. Same with Helsley.
