I’ve never said this before in all the decades that I’ve been a Cardinal fan, but I truly think this organization needs a shakeup. But where do you start? For Mo to move on? For Oli to be replaced? For Gary LaRocque to retire? Maybe Chaim Bloom is the first step forward.
I’d prefer Mo’s successor take the helm asap. We’re trending as sellers. If that continues, I’d want the new boss to make the transactions at this deadline and next winter. Cold turkey with someone else’s roster during ST could just prolong the rebuild.
Worth noting in regards to the article I posted yesterday. Burleson is starting today at 1B instead of Goldschmidt. Even against a very good LHP. Very interesting.
Why do we think Chaim Bloom is the answer to replace Mo?
We don’t really. His time with Tampa was good but his time with Boston was not so good.
Supposedly he was involved with us getting Fernandez, O’Brien, and Kittredge, who have all been pretty good thus far.
The reason I bring him up is because he is already in the organization and BDW likes to promote from within, therefore based on experience, I would choose Bloom over Girsch or Flores.
Maybe the Cardinals need to hire Trea Turner as a hitting coach:

With the, currently, dubious situations with Goldschmidt, Contreras, Gorman, Nootbaar and Walker, Herrera and Burleson now become key hitters for the Cardinals. They both have the ability to drive in runs. I believe they’ll surprise some Cardinals fans with their production. A few weeks ago, some wanted Burly shipped to Memphis. Now, he’s one of the keys to any hopes for a wildcard birth.
With both Burleson and Herrera the issue is how to keep them in the lineup if they do hit. They are both a liability at their position.
blingboy, from what I’ve seen this season, Burleson is at least average at LF, RF and 1B. The Cardinals must agree. They don’t seem hesitant to play him at those three positions. However, he’ll likely get most PT as the DH.
But here’s the thing….
Just because Burleson is now one of the Cards most productive hitters, doesn’t make him a good hitter.
I do hate being a kill-joy, but these are Burleson’s numbers:

These numbers are terrible for a guy who doesn’t run well or field a position well. You don’t build teams around guys with a 99 OPS+ UNLESS they have another valuable skill (incredible speed or elite defense).
So with all due respect, you need to slow your roll Mr Shady! Burleson is still a very disappointing player on a bad baseball team.

True, but only after reported favorite Chris Antonetti from Cleveland did not want to be considered.
Wonder if Sig Mejdal was in the running for any of the POBO/GM openings in the last couple years? Not sure if the Luhnow bad blood extended to him. He and Elias have done a great job in Baltimore. All of those guys who left for Houston after the 2011 season have had impressive careers.
Sig has the analytics part down, but the rest, I don’t know.
As a side point, Sig’s Wiki entry cites as a source an interview I did with him in 2006. Unfortunately, it was purged by Scout/CBS. Might be in the Internet Wayback Machine or deep in my files somewhere…
In hindsight, that Cardinals FO from the 2005-2011 time period was pretty deep and high-powered. Unfortunately, Luhnow took many of the stars (including himself). Elias and Mejdal picked up right where they left off in Houston, and now in Baltimore.
RBK, I have been relentlessly arguing that very thing for ten years. Mo has been coasting downhill ever since. Now he is at the bottom.
I had forgotten the Antonetti interest BW. It’s a good reminder that Bill knows all of the possible candidates, as a very tenured owner.
