Congratulations @gscottar for correctly identifying two Cardinals trade targets!

Thank you @lacardfan. I have been talking about Fedde and Pham for several weeks. I am glad to see that Mo reads this forum…lol

This is a good trade for the Cards. What I am surprised about is how did the Cardinals get Fedde and Pham without losing any prospects? That doesn’t add up unless there is something we don’t know yet. I know we lost Edman but he hasn’t played one game this year and is owed $9.5M next year on top of what he is owed this year. Seems odd.

Has anyone heard that the Cardinals are not giving up anything else? MLB Traderumors said that Nitghtengale indicated that the deal included prospects from both the Dodgers and the Cardinals.

Yes, it does seem strange based on the reporting so far. I would say the Cardinals are the clear winners of the trade if this deal holds up in the current form.

It seems like there has to be another piece we don’t know about yet.

I simply haven’t seen any Cardinals prospects included, though it does seem as though there would have to be some going to Chicago to acquire both Fedde and Pham.

Right-handed outfield bat. Gives outfield depth at three spots. Allows Burleson to move to DH.

    Pham???

    Tommy Pham?????

What on earth do we want or need him for?????

What other RH OF bats do we have????

    Dylan Carlson and ……….??? nothing.

Speaking of Carlson I wouldn’t be surpised if he is now traded or sent to Memphis.

The ONLY way I could see the Cardinals getting by with only Edman is that they agreed to take on all of the salaries of Fedde and Pham.

And as an older player Pham is a good clubhouse guy. The Cardinals like those leadership players and he fits that persona as well.

That is a given but it still seems short to me. Maybe we are paying a chunk of Edman’s salary for the Dodgers.

I think Carlson will be going somewhere. I am surprised the White Sox did not take him as part of this deal and let him play full time the rest of the way to see if he could tap into that “former top prospect” tool kit.

This is spectacular news for Tommy Edman. Not only is he spared the mundane existence of languishing with an organization that’s been trending downward and looks to be going nowhere, but he also lands with a Dodger team that is not only an odds on favorite to compete for a WS championship in ’24, but also for several seasons henceforth. I for one look forward to seeing Eddie compete deep into this season’s playoffs with his new team. He’s a winner and is a perfect fit for that nice Dodger blue uniform. The Dodgers obviously feel that little Eddie will help them achieve their goal.

I don’t think the salaries of Fedde & Pham are that big of a deal.

It does seem like there should be Cardinals prospects going back to Chicago.

I’m not sure how I feel until I learn what prospects are departing. Fedde has been good. But if he pushes Pallante out, then it might not be as big of a gain as we’d like. Still, it’s a definite improvement. Pham should help against lefty starters a little, but I don’t feel like he’s all that great of pickup.

Maybe the Cardinals tried to unload Gallegos’ salary to take on these other salaries. Gsc, maybe you are correct. I want to see all the details.

Forced to be creative because of financial constraints both this season and in 2023, per a source, the Cardinals had to try to send out as much payroll as they were taking back in any potential deal. They dealt what was remaining of Edman’s $8 million salary this year for what was left the $7.5 million due Fedde. The 31-year-old right-hander will make $7.5 million in 2025.

    Cardinals are poor

Gallegos isn’t going to save the Cardinals anything unless a team trades for him – and who is going to trade for a guy with a 6+ ERA that has been DFA’d?

Fedde is also under control for 2025 for $7.5M, which means Mo doesn’t have to bring back both Gibson and Lynn. Save some buck$ there.

I thought we were looking for a RH bat? And we end up with Tommy Pham???

He’s 36 and not doing much this year. Nice job Mo.

Maybe we might luck out and catch lightning in a bottle with Pham for the next two months.

And what’s the deal with this Fedde guy? I’ll tell you…In 65 Big League decisions he’s a .431 SP’er with a career ERA a shade under 5.00 and he didn’t work a solitary inning in the Big Leagues in ’23 because he was busy playing baseball in Korea…Sound familiar?

If I’m a baseball team I’d rather take on a root canal that Tommy Pham.

Edman is going to make more than Fedde in 2025.
