Participantplayed around with freeman too much, just go right after him. freeman just a beast though. we need to have somebody up for backup for every pitcher. the closer is no exception.
October 3, 2019 at 8:09 pm #110037This is when Cmart pitches his best. 1 out to go
October 3, 2019 at 8:09 pm #110038Gee Martinez doesn’t have it, but leave him in.
October 3, 2019 at 8:09 pm #110039Goldy digging out the Wong throw for the second out is as big as his HR tonight.
October 3, 2019 at 8:10 pm #110040WOW….. my gonads can relax now!!!!

Participantman hard to take that but its a win for us
October 3, 2019 at 8:10 pm #110042Great job boys. 1-0 lead.
October 3, 2019 at 8:11 pm #110043CMart tried to give it away, but ends it with a ꓘ on Markakis. Score 7-6.
October 3, 2019 at 8:12 pm #110044I think Cmart is not comfortable unless the tying run is at the plate
October 3, 2019 at 8:12 pm #110045Well, it’s 3 a.m. here now, but I’ll never get to sleep after that Martinez injection of worry juice.
October 3, 2019 at 8:13 pm #110046What frustrates me about CMart….. he will focus and get the first two stikes… and then plays this game of pitching all around the box trying to get the batter to go after it.
And also his attitude when they don’t go after his pitches.
Just focus on throwing strikes and quit playing!!!!!!!!
October 3, 2019 at 8:14 pm #110047Typical CMart…scare the h__ outa everybody! Congrats Cardinals, gotta absolutely love how they battled back. We are a tenacious team. I really think that long hard stretch for the division title the last couple weeks has really paid off for us. We are a very resilient team right now. Go Cardinals!

Participantwell good first game, as usual we struggled a big part of the game with runners on. mikolas shaky early but overall pitched great. defense was a little shaky. wong had a bad error and though I think it was ruled a single the play by edman should have been made. at third you always have to come in on the ball, any retreat and its more luck than not if you make the play. but edman isn’t a true third baseman so its gonna happen. I thought the relief pitching overall was really good. I thought the opening lineup was fine and I liked all the moves shildt made to give us a shot. I said that carp could be a big weapon off the bench. it was pretty but it got the job done. don’t know why you send wong there, wasn’t even close. but on to tomorrow.
October 3, 2019 at 8:19 pm #110050CMart is not a two inning pitcher. Not a knock, most of them aren’t these days. How can Shildt not know this?
BTW, I thought Shildt did a great job managing, except for the bottom of the 9th.October 3, 2019 at 8:20 pm #110051Cards have great opportunity in front of them. They need to provide Flaherty with run support tomorrow night.
October 3, 2019 at 8:20 pm #110052YOU SIMPLY CANT RELY ON THAT GOOFBALL CARLOS MARTINEZ!!!
YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET WITH HIM!!!
When the Cardinals got the lead in the 9th I yelled at the screen…”YOU BETTER GET SOME MORE RUNS!!!” because I knew with Martinez on the mound no lead is save.
I don’t know what the answer is regarding him but its about as obvious as can be that he is not cut out to be a late inning relief guy. He needs to go back to starting.
He has never lived up to his hype and expectations. As far as I am concerned you can package BOTH BOZO MARTINEZ’S AND TRADE THEM FOR A SACK OF POTATOES. I DONT CARE WHETHER THEY ARE IDAHO POTATOES OR NOT EITHER!!!
Am I making myself clear???

October 3, 2019 at 8:22 pm #110053Great to get the first game – even bigger in a five game series than seven. Both teams bullpens let them down, but fortunately we ended up with one run more. Good to see some hitting. Mikolas settled in well after a shaky start.
Acuna admiring that hit to right might get him in Snitker’s doghouse.
October 3, 2019 at 8:24 pm #110054Every time Atlanta scored, it was after a leadoff walk (once two, back to back), a hit batter, or leadoff walk. You can’t win in playoffs with that, except that we did.
October 3, 2019 at 8:26 pm #110055Flare going tomorrow with a chance for a 2-0 lead heading back to Stl.
October 3, 2019 at 8:27 pm #110056GREAT game 1 win!!! I was hoping for one out of two, and now with Flaherty going tomorrow, they could be headed back to the Arch with only one win needed!
I’m guessing I’ll get a little extra support on my huge feelings toward trading CMart to SD for Yates and Pitino after this one…. 🙂
Game 2 tomorrow, first Flaherty No-No?!? I wouldn’t bet against it!
October 3, 2019 at 8:30 pm #110058Crystal clear Ratsbuddy. But For now Cmart is our closer and we have to put up with it for now.
October 3, 2019 at 8:40 pm #110059I liked the way we played some small ball at times, and generated runs that way. Only one of the seven runs coming on a homer. Course we needed that one. And we actually walked one more time than we K’d.
Had we just sat back and waited to be bailed out by the home run, rather and practicing the execution involved in moving guys over, we lose that one. That may be the biggest improvement in this club under Shildt over Matheny.
October 3, 2019 at 8:42 pm #110060Great to get the first game – even bigger in a five game series than seven.Mike, you are right. The TBS crew said teams winning the first game of 5-game series have gone on to win the series 70-something percent of the time. I can’t remember the exact number.

Participantwell Martinez seems to struggle in 2 inning saves. I think when pitchers get used to pitching one inning tend to have problems with coming in an inning, sitting down, then going back out there for the next. its usually that second inning where they struggle even if like this case they didn’t throw many pitches in the first inning
October 3, 2019 at 8:49 pm #110062It definitely slants the odds in our favor. Hopefully we can go up 2-0 with “Mad Jack” on the hill tomorrow (my personal nickname for Flaherty as his pitching style reminds me a little of a young Max Scherzer to me).
