Well, looking at the ump positioning, Holbrook won’t be the HPU until St Louis but he could still be calling IFFs in Atlanta. The problem was he was right on his call as proven by the rule and by video. Even Chipper Jones says the game was decided by his lousy throw into CF over the second baseman’s head. Maybe they will outlaw that stupid tomahawk chop. Amazing that all the politically correct people have not come out against all that junk that Brave fans buy.
October 1, 2019 at 8:01 am #109576We dropped cable a couple of years ago when I went into the semi-retirement mode, so no TV for me during post season baseball until the Series.
It is okay though as often times I prefer listening to the radio broadcast, as that way you can do other things while the game is on.
Hope Wong is back at 100%, or close to it for the post season. He is a key to our club and was good in that number two spot in the order, although Edman is a strong backup. But with Wong at second and Edman at third, we are better both offensively and defensively.
If we see more of a 2018 Mikolas, we have a great chance to stun the local crowd and take both games in Hot ‘Lanta.
October 1, 2019 at 8:08 am #109577IMHO, MLB blows it again with the start time of tonight’s wild card game. 8PM Eastern? Way too late to start a game at 8PM local time. With the way these games stretch out, especially post season games, it will be midnight before fans are getting on their way home.
I am sure the MLB gurus figure that is the best overall time for a national audience, but for the local fans you probably want a much earlier start.
Ideally sometime between 6 and 7. An afternoon game would be even better, but we know that won’t happen when only one game is played.
October 1, 2019 at 8:19 am #109579We have a separate Wild Card thread for tonight’s game which I will bump up and reply there.

ParticipantLast call for top-50 prospects round 9.

But Brian that is only about 10 folks. The rest are all politicians and staffers and they have limousines don’t they….LOL
One MLB writer several years ago commented that the Nats don’t really have a fan base because almost everybody there is from somewhere else and they pull for their hometown teams. Looking at the attendance sometimes, I tend to think he may have been right………LOL

ParticipantIf we can win game 1… we can win this in 4. The Braves ain’t that good.
So far this is working.
October 1, 2019 at 10:13 am #109606MM3, consider Florida MLB baseball…
October 1, 2019 at 10:48 am #109611Brian, absolutely right – Tampa and Marlins probably have the worst attendance in MLB. And smallest fan base in a heavily populated area. But a lot of the population leaves when the their home team does or they follow them on TV from their Florida homes. Marlins sold off their team and the other has a good team this year and a poor facility but that is not what holds down attendance. Pham hit it on the head with Tampa — “What fan base?”
October 1, 2019 at 7:03 pm #109637#STLCards announce that Miles Mikolas will start Game 1 of the NLDS on Thursday.

Dallas Keuchel will start for Braves in NLDS Game 1 https://t.co/wsd7WbJTZa

October 2, 2019 at 10:17 am #109714This game will likely come down to which version of each pitcher shows up. I obviously don’t follow Keuchel as much, but I know there have been great starts along with terrible ones, just like Miles.
Keuchel has a 3.31 ERA in the playoffs in 51.2 IP but also wasn’t nearly as dominant during the season this year as he was during most of those years. He had a couple of rough outings in June but then settled in over his next 17 starts and had around a 3.5 ERA the rest of the year.
I predict the Cards get 3 off of him in 5 innings then they go to the BP. Thursday night is why they signed him and, I for one, was a big advocate for the Cards to do so.
With Flaherty and Boyd as the Cards #1 and 2 next year, they will be much better off!
October 2, 2019 at 11:19 am #109727Flaherty and Boyd?
Who is Boyd???
October 2, 2019 at 11:53 am #109731I’m assuming CardsFanInChiTown is referring to Matthew Boyd. Maybe CardsFanInChiTown knows something we don’t
October 2, 2019 at 12:03 pm #109732Rotation sets up nicely for the Cardinals in the LDS with Flaherty pitching game 2, although it still says TBD but I’m assuming he will get the nod on Friday and if necessary he would be scheduled to start game five next Wednesday or if we’re fortunate enough game one of the LCS.
October 2, 2019 at 3:06 pm #109743I feel good about beating the Braves (again) It was a big thrill for me in ’82 when Forsch shut them out on a Sunday to complete the sweep to get us to the Dodgers in the NLCS.
I went crazy folks, went crazy!
October 2, 2019 at 3:19 pm #109744Dave, I wish I had some actual insider information to confirm Boyd being a Cardinal, unfortunately it’s nothing more than “Something that makes to much sense not to happen” category. We need a good LHSP and they need young, cost controlled bats all over the diamond. A package with O’neill, Woodford and another piece would get it done, now it’s up to Mo & Co.
October 2, 2019 at 3:43 pm #109747MLBTV said Mikolas will start game 1. Can that be true???
October 2, 2019 at 3:56 pm #109748
stlcard25ParticipantCarter, yes. Brian reported that here as well via Anne Rogers’ tweet.
October 2, 2019 at 4:04 pm #109749Flaherty pitches game 2. Games 3 and 4 are still tbd, but with certainty I can say it will be Waino and DH but where were at after 2 games would decide the order. I would say up 2, we go with DH. If we’re tied or down 2, I would say Waino in game 3
October 2, 2019 at 4:15 pm #109750CardsFanInChiTown: Boyd would be a nice addition but If we’re able to, I would like to go after Madbum. I feel he has some good years left and possibly with the right team, his career can be resurrected much like Verlanders was in Houston.
October 2, 2019 at 4:33 pm #109751Who is this Matthew Boyd anyway???
October 2, 2019 at 7:16 pm #109772Chi-town: I would like to go after Madbum. I feel he has some good years left and possibly with the right team, his career can be resurrected much like Verlanders was in Houston
I’d like him for long relief and pinch hitting.

Participantoh carter Legrand, fond memories for me as well. bob forsch is one of my all time favorite cardinals. yea I think we can take em again. to me first game is pivotal. our best chance is win that and hope Flaherty is dominant and we can score some runs.
October 2, 2019 at 8:38 pm #109781Dave, it doesn’t have to be either/or…. but MadBum is likely going to cost more than Mo’s willingness and it won’t be “opportunistic” enough for him. Boyd has 3 years of control left and would likely only cost O’neill and Woodford or something along those lines.
October 2, 2019 at 9:23 pm #109788There are several other active threads about the 2020 roster and trade/free agent ideas. This one is about Game 1 of the NLDS. Thanks…
