You’re welcome, BW. As for ads, I don’t want to come off as though I’m offering up any unsolicited suggestions, and I certainly don’t want to make anyone mad if it seems like I’m doing so, but I wouldn’t see anything wrong with a few ads just so long as they offset your costs or even placed a little extra paper in your pocket. In any case, I enjoy the baseball banter and the site seems to operate pretty well to me.

stlcard25ParticipantStill having issues with the browser and Google crashing from this site. It only happens on pages with multiple embedded media, it seems. It happened once elsewhere on a site with an embedded tweet (also a forum, but not sure it’s the same board software as this one). Android version 13, Google chrome. It seems like I am the only one having an issue, but it’s a major one for me as it makes the site unusable.
March 17, 2023 at 7:53 am #214133Have you experimented with another browser by chance to see if the problem follows? I checked and the board software here is current in terms of maintenance releases. I am also an Android/Google Chrome user on my phone, and the forum works as normal for me. If I could reproduce it on my end, I would have a much better chance of fixing it. Right now, I am (almost) as frustrated as you are.

stlcard25ParticipantI’m gonna try using the built in browser for a bit to see if it works. I’ll let you know if the error persists.

stlcard25ParticipantAn update…I’ve used the Samsung browser for this site since the last post and had no issues. So the issue seems to be something with Chrome. I’ll keep using it to see if it keeps working well, although it’s odd to use it for one site only. To be fair, it is my most visited site.
March 22, 2023 at 4:00 am #214477stlcard25 your experience sounds similar to a problem I was having a couple years ago affecting my use of TCN and other sites with embedded media. The Samsung browser worked but Chrome would get crashed. I went up to the ATT store and explained it to one of the tech nerds. The first thing he asked was if I had recently installed any apps, which I had, the app for Discord. He said sometimes installing certain apps can mess up chrome on an android device. The fix ended up being to uninstall chrome from my phone and reinstall it. (He walked me through it, bless his heart).

stlcard25ParticipantBB, as far as I know, Chrome can’t be uninstalled without using a special third party software. I’ve updated it but haven’t been trying it on this site lately. We will see if Samsung browser holds up.
March 22, 2023 at 8:42 pm #214525I wish my memory of the incident from a couple years back was better. Maybe the need to use special software was why I ended up having it done at a store. Just not sure any more. But it did fix the problem and I have been using chrome on my Samsung phone ever since. Good luck.
May 30, 2023 at 7:55 am #222761There was a rash of bot registrations and spam posts overnight. To stop them, we had to take a drastic measure of cutting off access by multiple IP addresses to the site. If this affected you in error, you won’t be able to read this, but hopefully you can email me so I can restore your access. I hope this inconvenienced no one other than me.
May 30, 2023 at 9:57 am #222776I couldn’t stop them completely, so I had to prohibit all new user registrations until I can implement a better solution.
July 9, 2023 at 2:59 pm #227337There is a topic and comment posted from a just registered user which seems to be mainly or entirely for the purpose of generating clicks on the posted link. I would assume the site linked to is monetized. Just a guess and no offense intended if I am wrong. Is there any way to restrict posting a link and/or creating a topic to users registered for a day or some period aimed at limiting abuse of the site? Obviously, new registers would still be able to comment immediatly.
July 10, 2023 at 11:37 am #227483I let the first one go, but now that there are multiples, I will ask the new user if he/she plans to join our community discussions or is just here to drive traffic to his/her site. The latter is against our forum rules, for the protection of our members.
On the broader point, it is a constant challenge to run an open board that is not so open that a small minority takes advantage.
October 23, 2023 at 2:28 pm #236159From this morning until mid afternoon, this site was running slowly. Our IT provider was able to identify a malicious external bot that was inundating the site with requests to load articles. We believe we have effectively blocked it and apologize for the slow service earlier.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWhy are free articles on the home page not linked into an appropriate thread, so the forum can read and reply?
We have a bullpen piece by Lou addressing the rosters biggest need “right now”, and it’s getting no play in the forum.
In fact, the article could be the lead for a bullpen thread that doesn’t exist.
December 8, 2023 at 5:31 pm #239307jj, that is a good idea. No reason any poster here cannot open a new thread.
Update: There was already a bullpen thread that another poster brought back up to the top…
December 30, 2023 at 3:29 pm #240527For the last couple of hours I have not been able to post. The error message says:
Error: Your reply cannot be created at this time.
December 31, 2023 at 7:50 am #240555I am right now geting the error message gscottar referenced.
December 31, 2023 at 12:25 pm #240569I can randomly post in certain threads but I have been blocked from posting in the Bullpen thread about ten times in a row. Kind of odd.
January 1, 2024 at 7:25 am #240611Sorry for the problem. I haven’t yet been able to recreate it.
January 10, 2024 at 10:40 am #241178The problem does appear to be isolated to the 2024 Bullpen Thread. I can post in every thread except that one.
January 10, 2024 at 10:51 am #241181At least not regularly. I was able to post in it yesterday but haven’t been able to today so far.
January 10, 2024 at 12:42 pm #241194Hmmm. I tried it and it worked normally. Wonder what it is about that thread? I suppose we could stop using it and start another…
January 10, 2024 at 5:24 pm #241225No need to start a new one Brian. I will find work-a-round. It seems to work better if I keep the posts relatively short. Thanks.
March 15, 2024 at 10:44 pm #244183For those who may have had the same problem I had figuring out how to post something said by another poster…
Hit B-QUOTE once, then hit it again. You will get two B-QUOTES with arrows between them pointing at each other.(Disregard the arrows at the ends.) Copy what you want to quote and carefully paste it right between the two arrows in the middle that are pointing at each other. If you can’t get the whole quote in one ‘copy and paste’, copy as much of the quote as you can and paste it (between the arrows), then go back and copy the rest of the quote, then add it on to the part that you already pasted. Then, make your comment. When you hit ‘submit’, it shows up the way it’s supposed to.
It took years of frustration before I found somebody to show me how to do this.

ParticipantOr just use “”quotation marks and BOLD it.
