Ah brian yes those are so called experienced managers. But a few should be out to pasture, the others arent any good or worth the cardinals time. Gscottar might be fine with them but i would prefer a young up n comer to grow with the team which is why i said pujols but could be some others. People in the organization should have a good idea of some good up n comers if they are doing their jobs. But probably not, they are probably relying on AI or something like that.
Future Hall of Famers like Joe Torre and Bobby Cox were once on a list just like that. It is unfair to lump a dozen or more people into one pot.
I am not lobbying one way or another. I have an open mind about it.
Gscottar, ive said the team wasnt in position to win the last three years if not actually more if we are really talking about winning. So if its taken the team this long to come to that, then that just shows how bad the whole ownership thing is. You want a exoerienced manager, i want a hungry uo n coming young manager to grow wuth these new and/or same young players and marmol isnt it to me, has never been it. Are we going to lose more games than we win, yes, and the manager isnt going to be able to change a lot of that for a while. But if hes the right one he will grow from it. Right now what you can glean from the decision to keep marmol is that nothing has really changed. Different face but same mouthpiece. Any fans that stayed away because of the ineptitude of management should just keep staying away, i wont blame them at all. Bringing in a new manager would have at least changed some perception that management has no clue. That the new guy mught be different. The cardinal fans are smart enough to know a new manager is going to struggle but its a strugggle with hope at the end of it. Keeping marmol doesnt give any of those people hope.
Well brian im not big on joe torre. Him and cox hall of fame resumes were made off of the players they mostly inherited. Torre didnt do much in st louis. Hiring retreads is something bad organizations do and maybe we are now a bad organization. Also having an open mind is great esp if you dont have your own idea of what would work. Playing it safe is fine. But i believe what i believe based on all my years of watching baseball so im going to stand by it.maybe i will be proven wrong, but thats fine. I can live with that because im not a fence sitter. I didnt want the cardinals to trade templeton or simmons and even though i was young, i still howled about it. But the trades turmed out to be great so thats ok.
I’m convinced that we really are finally entering a soft rebuild – or did enter it in 2025.
I expect 2026 to be another .500 +/- season with more and more younger players getting shots to prove they belong at the big league level.
2027 would be THE year the team starts to rise and turn the corner from a record standpoint.
Now, based on player development, if CBA issues kill a big chunk of 2027 I think that’s an absolute disaster for StL. So, we need to hope we don’t lose a lot of that season.
IF, and I say IF, Bloom is both good and lucky then 2028 feels like the year the Cardinals are true WS contenders again.
So, as far as the manager goes – 2027 feels like the year to make a change if Bloom wants to replace Marmol and get fresh faces and voices in the dugout. If Bloom likes what he’s seeing with how the young players are being handled he might very well stick with Marmol & company.
There is no point bringing in somebody who brings something to the table if the system in place does not accommodate and allow for it to be factored in and utilized. I am convinced that people of substance like Albert and Maddux left for that reason. (And Shildt).

Interesting how the rear view mirror narrative links Albert and Shildt. I recall it happening very differently.
P.S. I get the long period of frustration, but shouldn’t we give the Bloom administration a chance before proclaiming they will be nothing but more of the same?
Bringing in a new manager just for the sake of change would be very exciting until April when fans realize that the exciting new manager has a roster at his disposal capable of winning 70-75 games. The excitement would wear off very quick.
As for who the new manager will be in 2027 I don’t have a particular favorite and I’m not saying that another rookie manager couldn’t be successful but I would say that hiring four rookie managers in a row would be kind of strange for a franchise that likes to fashion itself as iconic. As I have opined before I think this front office has hired rookie managers intentionally because they didn’t want push back. Maybe this organization needs some push back.
Also, hiring a manager with some experience doesn’t mean it has to be someone in their 70’s.
You could go out and get yourself a dandy super Rolls-Royce but it won’t take you anywhere if you ain’t got no gas to put in it.

Walt was fired in 2007. But that did not occur so Mo could fix the farm. Afterward, they interviewed external candidates and reportedly Chris Antonetti from Cleveland turned it down. They settled on the internal candidate Mo later on.
Luhnow was running player development at the time and did a pretty good job through when he left after the 2011 season. The farm system was generally highly ranked until 2015. That all is ancient history.
At this time I’m not at all interested or concerned with the little whiz-kid…There’s plenty of first rate post-season action to enjoy!

Not so “fast” gscottar…I can recall seeing an under 9 second quarter mile pass from a Ford Pinto at a Pro Stock NHRA event in the mid 70’s. It was a funnycar…Haha!
I am not a Marmol fan. Too many lineups with slow guys up top, fast guys in the middle and more than one regular sitting. Also too many green pitchers in close game late innings. LaRussa was good because he had a great sense of roles he needed present and he put guys there who filled the role and seemed satisfied with the role. Ollie has absolutely no sense of roles. I think he has improved some but not enough.
I believe in giving a guy a chance. Bloom has had two years to improve player development and our minor league system has improved and more than just two great draft picks in a row. International providing some quality at last. Raniel Rodriguez and Yario Padilla in 24 and Miguel Henderson, Kenlley Hunter and Sebastian Dos Santos in 25. The latter 3 were all featured in a list of rising international player by Baseball America. That was 3 Cardinal of 40 listed. Well more than our share.
Rodriguez and Padilla are ranked higher by some than on our top lists. The players in top 15-20 prospect lists look more likely to succeed than in some time.
To me that is taking on a role and doing it well. That is more likely than not to carry over in his broader responsibilities. DeWitt may impair his progress but I suspect that thay have an understanding that is satisfactory to Bloom or I doubt that he would have stayed on.
I think the pitching coach has done a decent job and I am not wrong the new hitting coach is Bloom’s choice.

Well brian if your first decision in a new job is to continue what the old guy did, its fair to say it may be more of the same. Proof is in the pudding so to speak.
Cardinals are talking with Molina about full time coaching job. Maybe Chaim isn’t so dumb after all. Molina is a better get than Pujols.
