Yeah, I’d say so, BW. And I’m reasonably certain that you’re aware of the very interesting fact that both Whitey and TLR were fired during their HOF managerial careers. TLR was placed into the soup line after being fired in Chicago and Whitey was canned twice. Once in Dallas and then again in KC. In any case, both of them were able to later find work as a Big League manager. That won’t be the case for the current Redbird manager. It’s my view that he’s clearly demonstrated that he isn’t capable of leading a Big League baseball team to an area that could be termed successful. It’s my view that he’s not only a bad manager, but also a lousy leader. Those two traits spell utter failure for a baseball team. He’s all done at the Big League level when the Cardinals wave him good riddance.

Marmol is an average manager for an average team. I can’t say that he is excellent in one particular area but holding the team together with a roster full of misfit toys does take some skill so I give him credit for that. I would also state that if he is truly as bad of a manager as some claim then how does he stay under contract for FIVE YEARS? If you really think he is that bad of a manager then maybe you should question the organization instead of the man.

Managers can make a difference but I believe more games are won or lost by the suits upstairs who put the rosters together and manage the payroll.

Couldn’t figure out where else to post this, so here it is in the Oli Marmol thread.

Fan Graphs has just ranked the Cardinals farm system as the
#1 system in all of baseball. Obviously, this didn’t happen overnight. So kudos to the DeWitts, John Mozeliak, and Oli Marmol. Mo, of course, has left. But he has left us with the top farm system in the game. Thank you.
