Oh let’s not kid ourselves ADM. He has been trending downwards for awhile. Mo thought he was getting the next Rolen. He didn’t.

jj-cf-stlParticipantSince August of 23′. He’s coming up 450 PA’s he’d probably say he’s dissapointed with.

jj-cf-stlParticipantOur deadline selloff of Flaherty, Hicks, Monty, etc. matches the start of Arenado’s swoon. Since then.

jj-cf-stlParticipantArenado has lost his edge vs LHP’s. Sorry if this was called out earlier.
He’s still a career .940 ops vs them after logging a .662 in 23′ and .502 to date.
Vs righties he’s at .723 with a career .838 ops.
June 10, 2024 at 6:23 pm #255811I see comments on occasion about Arenado “not being worth $30M”. While that may be true, he has been worth more than that over his first three years as a Cardinal. He has been on average about a 5 WAR player for us for three years.
And keep in mind, the Rockies are kicking in about $5M per year, plus his contract has $6M per year deferred with payments on that paid with no interest from 2032 to 2041. So you take $5M off the top, and discount another $6M well into the future and the real cost to the club is much less than what the AAV shows.
This is not to say moving him if our club is not in contention and we could utilize him to bring a nice return is ill advised. But in terms of “bang for the buck”, he has been worth our cash outlay to date and is not costing the club as much as it appears when you just look at raw dollars.
June 11, 2024 at 11:38 am #255839The problem now is that his 2024 WAR is -0.1 and is still owed $64M after this season, which means his trade value is very low. The only way to move that contract is to eat some money and I doubt DeWitt would authorize that.
June 11, 2024 at 1:24 pm #255849Yeah I think any talk about 2025 has to start with Arenado being at 3B.
June 11, 2024 at 2:01 pm #255852Yeah, in terms of WAR it is the younger guys carrying the load. The club might have waited a year too long to move Nado and Goldy. If we are still some 7 games back or more by around the All Star break, management needs to seriously see what they can get for the old guard. A contender might take a shot thinking they can recapture some of their former glory once they are thrown into a pennant race.
