We are now 15-9 since the managerial change. Is everyone on the Shildt bandwagon yet? I know that I am.
Of course the roster changes in the bullpen have helped too. And don’t forget Budaska and Greer.

Yes, I think he’s doing a good job. I think all of the coaches are. If our goal is to develop young talent, it appears that the coaching staff that was promoted a few weeks ago appear to be doing a good job so far.
If we make the playoffs, I think they are a lock to keep their promotions. If we win more series than we lose, I think it’s highly likely.
The only thing I think can prevent them from winning these jobs on a full-time basis is a complete collapse, which I don’t see happening right now.
August 12, 2018 at 12:59 pm #65107Anyone else getting concerned about Molina playing every day without rest?
August 12, 2018 at 1:34 pm #65111NJ315
ParticipantI am and have expressed many times before only to be told he can rest during the off season or that if he says he feels fine then let him play.
August 12, 2018 at 4:42 pm #65166For those surprised by the fire shown by Mike Shildt, it may take a lot to get him angry, but it is inside there. Back in 2012 at Double-A, in an argument, he threw his helmet, which accidentally struck an umpire. He took a three-game suspension and was very apologetic about it.

I am. On the other hand, every game played without him subtracts so many positive elements it’s a hard decision to make, especially if the man himself says he’s good to go.
August 12, 2018 at 5:26 pm #65172I know. Today Molina had the lead RBI. But I also remember he was hurt in two consecutive Octobers when they needed him most.
August 12, 2018 at 5:29 pm #65173Another testimonial.
So proud of Mike Schildt and what he has done! He’s been my manager since the day i got drafted and all the way through the minor leagues. He taught me how to approach life outside baseball and was also there for me when my father passed. Im glad he was giving this opportunity!

August 13, 2018 at 7:42 am #65196Clearly not all him, but the results are there. Now, the schedule gets tougher.
. @Cardinals are 16-9 under interim manager Mike Shildt — the best record in the NL over that span. @MLBNetwork @MLB

August 14, 2018 at 12:37 am #65351Ummm…maybe it isn’t really Shildt after all.
Cardinals are 8-1 since Dexter Fowler went on the DL. 9-8 under Shildt prior to Fowler hitting the DL.

ParticipantThere was a lot of dead weight cleared out in the bullpen as well.
August 14, 2018 at 9:34 am #65374Interim tag should be getting close to being removed.
August 14, 2018 at 9:51 am #65379A couple of things Shildt has done that I like. He is not afraid to use his bullpen guys for more than an inning at a time, and he plays the best infield we can put on the field.
I do not particularly care for Molina playing every day and batting second, but for now it is working out.
Bottom line, Shildt seems like the type of manager I favor, and that is a guy who lets his players play and does not tinker around too much with constant lineup changes and moving guys all over the place (remember the infamous Wong-in-center-field fiasco?). When a manager does that, he instills confidence in his team.
One of the main benefits I am seeing on this club is stability. But then bottom line, they are benefiting primarily from better bullpen pitching, and Matt Carpenter turning around his season. The stability is pushing that momentum in the same direction for even greater success.
August 14, 2018 at 10:05 am #65390Well said Mike. I also get the feeling that Shildt has a plan and isn’t just making it up as he goes. Maybe that is because he has actually been a manager before and knows all of these players very well.
August 14, 2018 at 5:27 pm #65447At least he isn’t sleeping on the couch in his office. 😉
Now that he's been on the job for one month, does #stlcards interim manager Mike Shildt get recognized more around town?

Mike Lupica is a good writer/reporter. I think he’s got this about right. Sometimes changing the manager does bring big changes.

Participant9-1 without Fowler.
August 15, 2018 at 7:57 am #65507Tuesday on @BernieShow we had a great conversation with @MattCarp13 on the impact of Mike Shildt and how daily "group therapy" team meetings have changed the culture https://t.co/GUcYJKHyDf

ParticipantAny interest in seeing a change in the front office?

August 15, 2018 at 8:56 am #655209-1 without Fowler.
Dang, if Dex had been healthy we might be a perfect 10-0 in that stretch! 🙂
August 15, 2018 at 9:33 am #65534If Shildt gets the full time job (which he should) what about Stubby Clapp as bench coach? Nothing against Pop Warner but Stubby deserves a promotion and it would be nice to keep him in the organization.
August 15, 2018 at 10:12 am #65543I like Clapp, but he has less than two seasons with the organization and as a manager. He has extensive experience as a hitting coach.
I hope if Shildt stays on that he gets to choose the coaches he wants. We saw what happened when it looked like the front office tried to manage the previous manager by changing his coaches. Not ideal, IMO.
August 15, 2018 at 10:47 am #65545Dang, if Dex had been healthy we might be a perfect 10-0 in that stretch!
0-10 would be more likely
August 15, 2018 at 3:08 pm #65558I wouldn’t want to force someone onto Shildt either but we don’t know if he would be opposed to Clapp or not do we? I remember reading the question/answer below from Goold’s chat a couple of days ago.
If the Cards go with Shildt next season is it fair to assume that Clapp will be plucked from Memphis by another team?
by john travolta August 13 at 7:21 PM
PermalinkIt is not. He could be part of the coaching staff in the majors here in St. Louis.
