Thinking about BDW deciding to pay Lindor $34M a year from now until 2031. Uhm. No.
This is his age 29 season, so the idea has to be win in the next two or three years. If Winn doesn’t work out, circle back in a couple years and see if the Mets want to send a pile of cash along so they can move on to the next thing. Besides that, it doesn’t seem worth thinking about.
December 4, 2022 at 8:20 am #208053The winter meetings get underway today, so maybe some legit trade rumors will start filtering out. Then we will see what happens on Rule 5 day.
December 4, 2022 at 8:51 am #208054I don’t see the Cards fishing in the SS market at all, and am actually shocked it’s talked about so much. The Cards already have a pretty excellent (See Edman, Tommy under the WAR leaders stat) and cheap one already with another in the minors a year or year and a half away. That goes against everything in their business model.
Signing Vazquez while waiting to see what they have in Herrera is a move I definitely see being made.
Then use the chips they save not getting Murphy to trade for an ace level guy.
I think the Orioles might be a great match for a Hudson trade also. For a prospect or two not on their 40 man.
December 4, 2022 at 10:42 am #208060There is always the chance Mo stumbles into something. A chance to get Kirk favorably. An impact level left swinging outfielder. But other than lucking into something too good to pass up, I hope he focusses on a meaningful rotation piece. Someone with a realistic chance of turning in 30 starts and giving us a chance just about every time. Monty and Q coming to do exactly that was such a relief last year.
December 4, 2022 at 11:29 am #208061True Bling, speaking of the LHH OFer, I had my eye on Pederson, he could have been a great fit behind Arenado vs righties. I was shocked he got a QO, but not shocked he accepted it.
Maybe Burleson can become that guy for $700k.
December 4, 2022 at 12:19 pm #208071There is zero chance the Cardinals trade for Lindor. The Mets have no reason to trade him and the Cardinals have no reason to trade for him.
We will probably end up with a catcher, LH OF, and a pitcher. The quality of those acquisitions are TBD. With limited funds available it could be low hanging fruit unless we can pull off a nice trade.
December 4, 2022 at 12:37 pm #208073Unless we trade Nootbarr or Burleson why do we pursue an LH outfielder?
December 4, 2022 at 12:59 pm #208075
jj-cf-stlParticipantAll the LH bat talk is to replace Pujols production, imo, to hit behind Golden-Nado. I don’t think they are looking for a Brad Miller or Dickerson this time. I could be wrong too.
December 4, 2022 at 1:19 pm #208077All I know is Mo has supposedly said a LH OF bat is something he has an eye open for. I wouldn’t have a problem with seeing if Burleson can do whatever Mo thinks needs doing by a LH OF bat.
December 4, 2022 at 7:18 pm #208089Others on here know other teams better than I, any ideas on “Top level pitchers” who could be on the move? Besides Bieber (Indians) and Lopez (Marlins) are there any other names that anyone has heard floated around?

I am familiar with the free agents available (Verlander, Rodon, Bassitt, Quintana, etc…) but I am not sure of the pitchers available for trade other than those you mentioned.
December 5, 2022 at 11:49 am #208142Huh?
The #STLCards are active in the free agent shortstop market, sources say, as I reported earlier today on @MLBNetwork.

December 5, 2022 at 11:51 am #208144$43M per year..
Verlander to Mets. $86M 2 years. Vesting option 3rd year.

December 5, 2022 at 11:57 am #208146I think it’s a good thing that Verlander’s now working in the NL for the Mets. Not only will we get to see more of him, but the Cardinals have had good success vs. the future HOF, RHP. Hand him the baseball and bring him on!
December 5, 2022 at 12:05 pm #208148Very surprised that the Cardinals are in the FA SS market.
December 5, 2022 at 1:13 pm #208155Any trade including O’Neil, Flaherty, Dejong, or Montgomery would change our cash balance dramatically. I could imagine a world where someone might see Dejong with the same beer goggles we look at Bellinger through.
A solid shortstop who flashed middle of the order potential for just one year of set-up reliever money. (They didn’t endure the years of frustration, either)
That crew provides great value to anyone desperate enough to focus on “what ifs”.December 5, 2022 at 1:29 pm #208157Where in the heck did the Lindor chatter come from? Just saw all that, why would they trade him and why would the Cards pay that price?
December 5, 2022 at 1:39 pm #208158The serious ? is are we going to get Sean Murphy?
December 5, 2022 at 1:40 pm #208159The Phillies just got Trea Turner.
December 5, 2022 at 1:46 pm #208161Turner did get $300M after all.
Trea Turner gets $300M for 11 years from Phillies. Full no trade.

December 5, 2022 at 2:54 pm #208167Less AAV for Turner but more years, pretty sure White Castle and McChickens are off his diet, and his kids, and their kids and their kids menu for quite a while….. his wifey is from around there too I’d read somewhere.
December 5, 2022 at 2:59 pm #208170I wouldn’t entirely count out a sack of WC’s with cheese from time to time. Extra pickles, please…
December 5, 2022 at 4:28 pm #208181gscottar, you were right. Turner got $300M. My only question is how could the Phillies be that stupid?????
December 5, 2022 at 4:47 pm #208184gscottar, you were right. Turner got $300M. My only question is how could the Phillies be that stupid?????
Turner is a good player and they aren’t afraid to spend money.
