As I have said before a self proclaimed draft and development organization can’t afford to have first round flops and expect to have success unless they are will to paper over their mistakes with cash, which the Cardinals are not good at doing that either. Carlson was a flop and Gorman and Walker are on deck.
We better hope Bloom gets this straightened out.
I read somewhere that Gallegos is spending the off season correcting lower half mechanics and has regained a couple ticks.

Ah, the Wainwright approach for Gallegos. “Fix the mechanics”, deny the end of career results. If it gets GG another contract, it worked.
Drafting is a crapshoot. The Dodgers are a premier organization with some of the best drafting and development resources available. Here’s their first two draft selections from 2017 to 2022:
2017: Jeren Kendall and Michael Cooper
2018: J.T. Ginn and Michael Grove
2019: Kody Hoese and Michael Busch
2020: Bobby Miller and Landon Knack
2021: Maddux Bruns and Peter Heubeck
2022: Dalton Rushing and Alex FreelandBusch had a solid year with the Cubs this season after the Dodgers gave up on him. Miller is in the Majors but there’s talk of the Dodgers giving up on him. Not a lot of value here. Drafting and developing is hard even for the elite teams.
That is very true jnevel but the Dodgers use every lane possible to build a team. Drafting, developing, international market, trades, and mega free agent signings when it suits them. They can make mistakes in one area and make up for it in a different area.
The Cardinals, on the other hand, have lightly dabbled in all of those areas in the past but now are apparently hitching their wagon to mostly just drafting and developing. If that is the case then they can’t afford too many mistakes.
I fully agree. I’m just suggesting that the ask on the table may be impossible – not missing with any of their first couple rounds of picks.
I hate to point a finger at a ‘company man’ like Randy Flores. But the track record speaks for itself.
Another thing to consider is that for the 2024 draft the story was that there really weren’t any obvious players to get excited about after the top 6 or 7. I think there have been similar assessments of the last several drafts. It’s kind of scary to say it, but the talent just hasn’t been there.
