My mistake. This Pedro is 35 years old and is the nephew of Manny Acta. The Cardinals Pedro is 68 years old.

Carlson’s career hits a new low. From top prospect, to a candidate for Rookie of the Year, to being a key piece in a potential trade for Juan Soto, to being traded for what ended up being a throw-away reliever, and now to being DFA’d by a club that specializes in developing good, young talent.
Someone will give him another shot, and it might be his last chance to show he can hit at this level. Maybe he should convert to hitting solely right-handed.
They just didn’t want to pay him Arb 3 money. It’s not the same as DFA’ing Kloffenstein who would have been league minimum.
It is true they didnt want to pay him arbitration money. But it also shows the problems with arbitration. I dont know how a guy thats been average to below average his whole time in the majors can be awarded a high salary by these people. If a guy is exceptional defensively or so multi tooled he play proficiently anywhere, i can see. But this isnt the case with him .
I think the Cardinals were surprised to find out Carlson wasn’t the center fielder they thought when they traded Bader. And then he got hurt. He always seemed to be banged up. Maybe he didn’t like playing through anything. And then it became clear he wasn’t going to hit enough to be an everyday corner. So, a 4th outfielder, except he doesn’t hit righties, which is most of the time, so a 5th outfielder. He was good for that since he could cover CF. But woops, he’s getting too expensive for that role. The Rays figured all that out a lot faster than we did. Oh well, he looked good in Texas League in 2019. The high water mark, as it so often is.

I just never fell into the carllson trap as far as thinking he was going to be all that. I didnt agree with trading bader and keeping carllson. Not because i thought bader was going to ever be really good but at least bader had speed and defensively he made plays few others could make at times. Hitting wise not much different other than when bader got hot, he was on fire. Baders speed and defense give him some upside far as staying in the league. Carllson could possibly be out of the league fast if he doesnt improve.
Carlsons arb salary is a pittance slightly over league minimum, in the bench player territory. It is not “high” at all.
He has establish enough mlb PA’s to earn his base arb salary, but it’s with a catch, he needs a buyer for over league minimum.
If Carlson was a good arb player, in his class, 10 to 15mil is on the table. But, the arb system agrees with you, he’s been poor.
Issuing him jersey #3 was the kiss of death. Here you go, now get out there and be a franchise icon.

You really would think a guy that had been around as long as Mo would be bright enough not to say things like that. Heck I’m bright enough not to say things like that. As time passes, my opinion of him continues to lower.
Mo is not a baseball man. He took a job hoping the analytics dept. could lead the way for him. They went Houston way, and he is left throwing blindfolded darts. A 13th rounder carried him early on, but the next decade reality set in.
