Gomber crashed even worse than Mikolas. He’s only 31. Big lefty. He should have 8 more lives. Maybe convert to relief full time? min wage.

Gomber was part of the group with Dakota Hudson & Flaherty if I recall correctly.

That bunch had so much promise…

Gomber might be a guy the Cards could sign on a minor league contract over the winter and give him a shot in Spring.

Why not go ahead and sign Gomber now and let him work out of the bullpen and then they might have the upper hand in the off-season to retain him? I don’t recall there being any bad blood, just someone that Colorado wanted. He had a bunch of promise at one point.

That bunch had so much promise…

The season opening list of Cardinals top 50 prospects for 2017 included Alex Reyes, Luke Weaver, Dakota Hudson, Jack Flaherty, Sandy Alcantara, Austin Gomber, Junior Fernandez, Jake Woodford, Ryan Helsley, Marco Gonzales, Jordan Hicks, Zac Gallen, the infamous Mike Mayers, Daniel Ponce De Leon, Sam Tuivalala and Rowan Wick. Not listed, but in the system was Johan Oviedo.

I believe all those guys at least played a little in the big leagues. It’s almost shocking how little the Cards got out of those guys. Really only Helsley and maybe you could say Flaherty panned out for the Cardinals in St Louis. A few were pieces in trades, some better (Goldy and Arenado trades) than others (Ozuna, ugh). Most, if they had success, did it with other teams.

It didn’t work in ATL, but maybe in Milwaukee?

Fedde will go 15-5 with a 3.15 ERA in Milwaukee next year and share in an SI article that Mo was the reason he couldn’t pitch in St Louis.

The Brewers can do no wrong. Fedde will be NLCS MVP this year with two shutouts.

Interesting article i read online about a former cardinal, tom patton. He died this past week. Its an interesting if brief read. Was drafted by cardinals but never made the big team. Orioles picked him up in a rule 5 draft i believe it was. He got to play one game for them but that was it far as major league games go. I think everyone should check it out. Its a good read.

For Baltimore, Dylan Carlson is hitting .204. Tyler O’Neill hasn’t been healthy enough to reach 200 PAs yet and is batting .195. That big contract isn’t looking good.

The Edman contract isn’t looking too good. LA will be eating that before long.

    Everybody sucks, lol.

No winners only losers on both sides of those deals but Bill did save some cash so there is that.

Seeing some Pujols rumors around. Angels related. Not sure what is real or just clickbait.

So the Angels will get an 11 time All Star, 3 time MVP, and perhaps the greatest right handed hitter of the last half century stop the dugout steps.

The Cardinals will retain a career .200 minor league hitter who maxed out in A ball.

    Seems like bad optics, perhaps.

Not much of a historical correlation between great players and great managers. Maybe Albert will be the exception. All the best to him if he gets the job.

As I said on today’s podcast, for the Cards, I am hoping for an experienced hand next time after three successive first timers.

Well it will be 4 “first timers” in a row when Yadi gets the call. Yadi managing the Cards and Albert as the skipper of the Angels. Cards-Angels world series anyone?

IMO, Yadi would not be a good idea. I don’t see the necessary level of commitment from him.

Yadi doesn’t seem to be the kind to take too kindly to the front office types telling him how it needs to be done, either. He is a great baseball mind though, undoubtedly. I’m not sure what role would be best for him on a big league staff in today’s game.

Former catcher Dave Duncan became one of the best pitching coaches of all time. But he was neither a Hall of Famer nor probably independently wealthy, so may have come in with a different perspective, including being happy to support TLR.
