Does anyone recall what he was throwing in his rehab outing?
May 13, 2018 at 7:05 pm #52243He’s going back to DL. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him placed on the 60 day when they bring back Reyes. Just speculation on my part but that may be the last time we see him.
May 13, 2018 at 7:13 pm #52244I agree TexasCard. I am wondering if retirement is right around the corner for him. And I don’t mean at the end of the season.

stlcard25ParticipantIt’s sad that some freak things like the Achilles injury robbed Adam of the end of his career that we all probably hoped for. I had some hopes that he could be a viable back of the rotation starter this year…but that seems unlikely and the team really probably doesn’t need him to be that with the plethora of young guys ready to step in. The really big question at this point probably becomes whether Reyes or Flaherty should start over Weaver if he keeps on scuffling.
That said, it seems clear that Waino is injured and needs a DL stint. Maybe bring him back for a September start or two if they can afford it and let him go out with the adoration of the fans behind him.
May 13, 2018 at 7:16 pm #52246As I said in the other thread, after seeing him today I wonder if retirement is right around the corner. Could be very close. Too many arms in the way of him making it back. I wonder if he sees the writing on the wall.

May 13, 2018 at 7:35 pm #52252Rats I agree but it would be to have his voice in the dugout to help with the young guys. I’d say a DL stint will happen before his ultimate retirement announcement.
May 13, 2018 at 7:37 pm #52253I think we just got our answer of what to do with the roster when its time to activate Alex Reyes. 60-day DL has his name written all over it and today was the last time we see Waino pitch for the Cardinals.
May 13, 2018 at 8:23 pm #52254Waino can’t retire. That almost never happens when a player still has millions to collect on a contract. If Wainwright were to retire, it would cost him about $15.5M.
May 13, 2018 at 9:06 pm #52263AW isn’t going to retire as he isn’t going to give up that much money it would be stupid to do.
May 13, 2018 at 10:23 pm #52270Adam Wainwright says his elbow injury quickly became an issue again on Sunday: "I warmed up great, and I went out to pitch the first inning, and third-to-last warmup pitch I re-aggravated it." #STLCards pic.twitter.com/JFdlOp8vpE

May 14, 2018 at 9:41 am #52302Does anyone recall what he was throwing in his rehab outing?
I was wondering the same thing Brian. There wasn’t a peep said about elbow pain after his outing in Springfield last Monday but then his elbow hurts after 2 1/3 in San Diego?? Maybe it had something to do with the quality of hitters.
May 14, 2018 at 3:19 pm #52338I read on twitter that his elbow got tweaked when he was warming up yesterday. He didn’t say anything and tried to gut it out.
I’m willing to bet the pain was never really gone, even during the rehab.
May 14, 2018 at 5:24 pm #52343The big question is why did he pitch after injured himself in warmups?
May 15, 2018 at 12:40 pm #52441For Flaherty coming up, Wainwright was returned to the DL. Third time already this season.
May 15, 2018 at 12:51 pm #52444It’s only a 10 day DL stint?
May 15, 2018 at 1:23 pm #52449It is not a 10-day maximum. It is a 10-day minimum. They could leave him there for the rest of the season if they chose to.
There is no one to add to the 40-man roster at this time even if they wanted to place Wainwright on the 60-day DL. Such a move can be backdated, so there is nothing lost by doing it this way now. However, we can now see how Reyes’ return could be accommodated in two weeks.
May 15, 2018 at 1:44 pm #52460Yes that will be the way it works getting Reyes back on the 40 man.
May 15, 2018 at 2:26 pm #52464As the great TRL used to say: These things have a way of working themselves out.
May 15, 2018 at 2:47 pm #52465Who?
May 17, 2018 at 4:45 pm #52798May 17, 2018 at 4:47 pm #52801I mentioned this in another thread but the move to the 60 Day DL seems to indicate to me we wont see him again until the rosters expand in September. The team could give him a couple of cameos out of the bullpen to say goodbye to the fans.
May 18, 2018 at 4:54 pm #52993Yeah obviously I meant to say TLR. Sheesh.
Tony RaLussa is Tony LaRussa’s evil alternate dimension twin.
August 12, 2018 at 5:23 pm #65170Wainwright will pitch in his first rehab game at Palm Beach tomorrow (Monday) night.
August 12, 2018 at 7:00 pm #65178Have I heard correctly? That Wainwright is planning on pitching in 2019?
August 12, 2018 at 8:23 pm #65180I think so, Rat. Maybe Waino is thinking Hicks won’t be ready to assume closer responsibilities until ’20. He started his ML career as a closer….why not exit it in that distinguished fashion?
