June 21, 2020 at 2:21 pm #131121Manfred should just call the season tomorrow morning before the voting results even come in. Nobody would be happy about it, but everybody would understand.

June 21, 2020 at 9:04 pm #131142For those keeping score at home…
There were about 40 positive Covid-19 tests last week alone among players and staff who’ve been at MLB camps. The exact number of camps affected since spring training 1.0 ended isn’t known but it’s said to be more than 10. Little doubt Covid is the real threat to the MLB season.

June 21, 2020 at 9:32 pm #131144Maybe they all moonlight at meat packing plants. Seriously, if they are not following the same covid related safety practices that the rest of us have had to cope with when we went back to work, then the virus will be transmitted. If it can’t be done, then they should go home instead of passing it around and spreading it far and wide.
June 22, 2020 at 4:12 pm #131180June 22, 2020 at 5:55 pm #131188As we await word on when and where: There are 28 markets where teams intend to play baseball this year. Let’s exclude Toronto, because who knows where they will end until up.
Based on NYT's coronavirus tracker, cases are rising in 14 of those markets. https://t.co/GEGY42EMGe

June 23, 2020 at 8:29 pm #131305As of yet, no Cardinals players have tested positive.

June 23, 2020 at 9:13 pm #131312A sobering reminder of what's going on: This season there will be a COVID-19 Related Injured List.
— Marly Rivera (@MarlyRiveraESPN) June 24, 2020
June 23, 2020 at 9:37 pm #131315There will be a COVID-19 Related IL with no minimum or maximum length of placement. A player may be placed on that list based on a positive COVID-19 test, confirmed exposure, or if a player exhibits symptoms requiring self- isolation for further assessment.

June 24, 2020 at 12:04 am #131337It;s up to the teams to keep the players safe within the walls of the facility. IT’s up to the players to make sure they’re safe outside of it. The players worry me more honestly.
June 24, 2020 at 8:48 am #131358And if/when problems do occur, MLB will remind the players they were against the bubble plan. MLB can only do so much. As you note, player responsibility could be the key.
In the bigger picture… What is the number of players a team would have to lose before they are not considered a viable team any more? What if a particular position group like catcher, is wiped out? What happens to the schedule if one team cannot field a complete roster? So many unknowns…
June 24, 2020 at 12:40 pm #131374There is no talk of fans in stadiums yet, as they are struggling how to even get the players on the teams there.

June 24, 2020 at 1:56 pm #131376The Blue Jays look to be in a jam, with the Canadian border closed and their Florida camp shut down.
Multiple #BlueJays players and staff have tested positive for COVID-19, per source.

June 24, 2020 at 6:57 pm #131393Well for the Blue Jays it is a matter of getting Major League Baseball to be deemed an essential job by both the US and Canada. Like mining in Canada is essential but the guys from the US were having trouble getting across to work the Gold Rush TV series. Not sure if they made it or not.
June 24, 2020 at 7:58 pm #131398One player on the Miami Marlins has tested positive for Covid-19. A Marlins staff member has also tested positive, both at the Jupiter complex. The player, and staff member are both asymptomatic.

June 25, 2020 at 7:06 pm #131482I think MLB is coming to realize that there is just no way they are going to escape the virus 100%. Then they will realize what others are noticing – with increased testing, positives are going up but deaths are not doing the same or at least not at the same rate as previous. It can be attributed to the fact that the people most at risk are taking the measures needed to avoid the virus and younger people are doing what younger people do – living up to their motto -We Are Indestructible. So unless it becomes really disastrous I see baseball as becoming tolerant of positive test results within reason. I say that when I see an IL for virus cases is being established. PLAY BALL.
June 26, 2020 at 9:26 pm #131594“I’m less worried they’ll end up on a ventilator or die. I am worried they may not be able to play at the level they usually do—if they are able to play at all.”
