I am very familiar with what Jim describes with his breathing. It has been 2 1/2 years since I went on oxygen and, surprisingly, at first it was only at night when I was sleeping and only as needed during the day – usually during exercise. I was surprised to find that when sleeping your oxygen tends to slow down. I was having breathing problems while sleeping and thought I had sleep apnea but that turned out to be not true. But in January of this year I really graduated to the big leagues of oxygen breathing. My COPD took a rather dramatic turn for the worse and now I have upped the quantity of oxygen taken and need it about 20 hours per day. I even rigged a 50 ft tube from the concentrator to my recliner chair in front of the TV. Birds and Oxygen is my new motto….if we can ever get those birds going. I think they are spring training on my bird feeders – just a ton of Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds and lots others. Stay safe all.
Almost forgot the big news: Actually got a 4pack of TOILET PAPER at the grocery store at 6 am this morning. They just got their new load in – all of 12 ea 4packs – gone in 10 minutes. Okay, now I can GO and I do mean GO………LOL

The XFL – what a way to kill a league. I have no idea of how well they were doing and I don’t think we will be seeing them anymore. Were they supposed to be the minor leagues of the NFL?
This pandemic really screwed a lot of things up. I don’t know if the XFL would have been a long term success but you gotta think this pandemic played a massive role since they couldn’t even finish their inaugural season. Side note: how awesome must it be to have the kind of money Vince McMahon has where you can piss away billions of dollars on two different attempts at creating a sports league?
The first XFL was a joke but this latest version was more serious and had a decent chance of survival until the virus hit. As bccran stated it was wildly popular in St. Louis. I think they hit close to 30k at one game and were preparing to open up the upper deck in the dome for the upcoming game against LA. It is a real shame. Maybe they can take another run at it in a year or two.

I don’t see how they are going to be doing any sports anytime soon, the # of cases keep going up daily.
Just how many ‘experts’ have not yet commented. Experts and service dogs need the same thing – certification. Ain’t gonna happen.
The distinction they are trying to draw in Florida is no spectators allowed. A concert isn’t going to be held in an empty stadium, but baseball games could. The tradeoff between restarting sports vs. the associated health risk with no vaccine will be debated for the weeks and months ahead. It is not just one decision, with Federal, State and local officials all with their own perspectives. Health officials could be at odds with politicians and business leaders. It is going to be a bumpy road ahead no matter what because there will be no consensus on whatever is decided.
There are people talking about the need for as many as 20 million or more tests per week in the US before the economy can really open back up. I really cannot imagine that happening anytime soon, so I suspect there is no chance of baseball this year and maybe a 5% chance that football is played this fall. It’s gonna be a rough year for sports, to be sure.
As I have pointed out and sorry for the doom but Metro NY is a whole different story than the rest of the entire country. In my county… just north of NYC there are more cases and deaths than Texas and multiple times that in Missouri. My city has more many cases and deaths than most states.
NYC is a whole different story. Thousands of cases per day and hundreds of deaths daily.
I just don’t believe that there will be baseball anywhere in ’20. There will be many consequences that will linger for many months. Will the players even want to risk the chances even among themselves? Will there be litigation involved should the virus spread? Scary right?
Way too many obstacles for the league to hurdle this season in order to play games. Bite the bullet and start fresh with spring training in ’21. The country has too many problems right now and many more that are not even being considered yet. Until this damn thing is under control IMO, people will continue to stay away from any chance of becoming infected… especially older folks who don’t want to become a statistic.
I agree with 14NyquisT. As much as I love baseball I would be hesitant to put myself in a crowd of 30-40K people. I hope they can start this season but a lot of folks like me will not be there.

Worth noting: The antibody test, which detects whether a person contracted coronavirus regardless of symptoms, is not taking away the ability to be tested for the disease from the sick or healthcare workers. This is a test typically used for research and epidemiological purposes.

MLB was among a number of companies considered for the testing, researchers said. They targeted large companies with employees in multiple metropolitan areas. As the paper written on the study is peer reviewed, researchers expect it to include an accounting of the sample.

Brian, thanks for putting some baseball related stories everyday. Any baseball related pieces are getting more and more difficult to find these days. Besides the controversy about getting players on the field playing real baseball there isn’t much to talk about.
TCN has some relevant stories every day for the baseball hungry fans.
Brian, thanks from me also. MLB website is down to the writers putting up “Top 10, Top 5, 3 Most Exciting, etc, etc, etc”. They are really starved for news as are most baseball dependent sports outlets.
Well we are now experts at curbside pickup of groceries that we pre-order as well as dining out – curbside. Not sure we will ever return to just browsing. I could go for keeping the elderly safe and letting the younguns loose again to get the country moving. As one of the former I feel we can tough it out and get by for a while without endangering ourselves or others. That is my sermon for today. Be safe folks.
