bb – I did listen to Brian’s interview with Crooks. I said about the Pages interview that my opinion is subjective. With that I’ll say that I sense that Crooks has a little swagger. And with Crooks it sounds like it’s based on genuine confidence, and not ego. Almost all of the interview was about Crooks’ offense which was very good (.271/.358/.433/.791) at A+ in 2023, but not quite as impressive as Pages’ offense (.267/.362/,443/.806)at AA. Crooks CS% was around 27% in 2023. Bernal, who is 2.5 years younger than Crooks, had a CS% of around 23%. Pages CS% in 2022 was 30% and in 2023 it was 38%. I was going to vote for Bernal as my No. 11 prospect, but I’m going to move Pages ahead of both Bernal and Crooks. Maybe all three of these players will become everyday catchers, but I’m thinking that Pages will be the first to get the chance.

In the past, the tiebreaker was whoever got their first so I’ll stick with that. Davis will be # 9 and Bernal # 10 with Rajcic narrowly missing out in this round.

I’m going with Cho at 11. I’m surprised that he isn’t getting more love here. He is a little under the radar because he is so young but he had a really good development year and he could be a seriously good impact player down the road. I expect him to have a breakout year as he puts it all together in 2024.
I really love all the comments on Rajcic. I like him a ton. But I’m going to go Robberse first. He’s incredibly young for AAA and other than his first outing there, he really held his own.

12. PagesIt’s hard to put Pages here ahead of Bedell who I have next at No. 13. The tie breaker for me is that Pages is having success at AA and Bedell is doing it at A+.
I’ve never seen this much talent running into the 11-20 range, and even into the 21-30 range.

12. CrooksIn August Mautz struck out 18 and walked only 1 in 13 IP, but he did that at PB while Rajcic had been moved up to Peoria. I note that TCN top prospects list still had Mautz ranked higher than Rajcic as of the most recent update in August, but am assuming their relative ranks will be reversed in the list Brian is currently rolling out. They are both College pitchers in their first pro year on the mound, and it was Rajcic who moved up. So I can accept the groupthink and go with Rajcic instead of Mautz at this point. I am not sure it will pan out that way in the end.
Since Bernal is already on the board at #10, I am wanting to get Crooks on too, so that is why I am moving away from Mautz in this round and will come back around next time.

I’m sticking with Cho for my next pick. Then, I’m going with Kloffenstein. I had Kloffenstein virtually tied with Robberse and McGreevey and I kept switching them all up between 11-13. I can’t decide who I’d trade away if I had to trade one or two of them. They all seem like solid guys who are good teammates with good talent, but not enough talent to make a huge impact. Still, reliability is a good thing. And that’s something these guys all seem to bring.

#14 KloffensteinFor those of you who may not follow prospects as closely, here are some guys to look at in the range that we are in: Won Bin Cho, Kloffenstein, Showalter, Crooks, Pages, Honeyman, Granillo, Bedell, Levenson, Nunez, Mautz, and Matthews. There may be a few others to consider here too depending on your preference, but this is a good start.
#13 – Kloffenstein – put up the best numbers of any of the pitchers at AAA
#14 – Pedro Pages – Pages & Crooks had similar slash lines, Pages has the higher caught stealing %#13 Pages
#14 BedellPages had something of a breakout offensively in 2023. His defense was always strong. His CS% is quite a bit higher than either Bernal or Crooks, and Pages is doing it at AA. If he makes another stride like he did this year, in 2024 he will easily make it into the top 10.
After COVID and TJ setbacks since being drafted in 2020, Bedell looked like he was finally back in 2023 at Peoria. He just needs more time and more reps to get fully back with all of his pitches. Eventually, this Mizzou alumnus could be a solid No. 3 starter, if not better, IMO.
