Albert dongs one in the very 1st inning. I’ve seen enough…..we need to ink him to a one year deal. This is his home and Albert likes to hit at home.
September 7, 2021 at 8:40 pm #171893Switching A. Reyes to the sixth doesn’t seem to have helped all that much

MrperkinsParticipantDid the crowd give pujols a curtain call?
October 28, 2021 at 3:35 pm #175905Albert will play in 2022.

October 28, 2021 at 5:33 pm #175911No, not in St. Louis. Please no.
Unless he hits .355 with 22 homeruns and 75 rbi’s in Winter Ball. Then maybe……

October 28, 2021 at 7:16 pm #175918Rat? If you were to ever purchase that pitching machine that you’ve had your eye on since 2007, even you could hit .355 with 22 home runs and 75 rbi in Winter Ball. Initially, I was all for bringing Albert back for his final season. But I have since cooled to the idea. We have too many young players in need of ML at bats to have an old player who once ditched us, hog them. Didn’t mean to sound disrespectful here……Albert did much good for our franchise….. it’s just time to move on. I bet the cubs, youth movement or not, might just sign Albert. Boy would that be strange seeing Albert in a cubbies uni. Sort of like envisioning Ryne Sandberg in a Cards uniform.

ParticipantI have no problem with Albert if we have the dh. Then I would only want to see him vs lefties. It would definitely increase attendance. Sell a few more shirts and such. Least that way if we don’t win it all, we are least see a great send off at the end of the year for 3 great Cardinals.
October 28, 2021 at 10:54 pm #175930I wish he would gracefully retire.
October 29, 2021 at 5:28 pm #175960If he comes back at the league minimum, and the Cardinals donate 10 million dollars to his foundation, I could stomach the thought. If he wants fair market value, I hope he signs with his hometown Royals.
The idea above was to remove the money aspect making the reunion more palatable to those of us still harboring meaningless, juvenile bitterness. It was not meant to save salary space.October 29, 2021 at 6:04 pm #175964Albert looks so overweight and out of shape that for me it’s painful watching him take an AB. Time to retire, gracefully.
November 1, 2021 at 11:14 am #176056My guess is Albert gets a spring invite somewhere, probably not here, and will need to earn his way on to a roster. Maybe the Royals give him a shot, or a team that is close but a decent DH would really help. Seattle maybe? The Padres? Oakland?

No doubt. As Albert gained weight over the years, it was hard for him to stay healthy and play at max potential. Carrying 2 or 3 bowling balls around your mid-section is hard to do while playing a sport. Fitness is one area that Albert wasn’t tuned into very well and didn’t handle it like a Hall of Famer in the 2nd half of his career.
November 1, 2021 at 5:19 pm #176064Isn’t Fatty Fatty Boom Bolatty still considered hate speech? We should refer to Albert as being ectmorphically challenged.
November 1, 2021 at 6:22 pm #176065If Berkman could be Fat Elvis, Pujols can be Fat Albert.
November 2, 2021 at 9:17 am #176082Berkman put himself through an incredible off season program which transformed him. Albert better sign with NY because vertical pinstripes are his best strategy for a slimming effect.

ParticipantI think he’s been plagued by weight his while life if I remember right.
It would be cool if he were to come on a mid season deal if we had an injury and had a Will Clark like Renaissance.
November 3, 2021 at 9:45 pm #176160I dont know folks. Remember, we have lost Matt Carpenter.
November 4, 2021 at 2:13 pm #176206I certainly understand both sides. My heart would love to see Albert wearing the birds on the bat hitting a home run at Busch. At the same time, my brain certainly recognizes that it would be awfully tough to recapture the magic.

March 11, 2022 at 4:43 pm #180616Agreed. NOOOOOOO!!!!!
March 11, 2022 at 4:52 pm #180617Go Rockies.
March 11, 2022 at 6:53 pm #180618I MIGHT be OK with it if it is only against LH pitching and the dollars are under $5 million. Also, he needs to have lost a little weight to maybe give him back a little quickness in the bat. Yepez would be the main competition from who is currently signed.
March 11, 2022 at 10:42 pm #180625If they really are talking to Albert’s agent…I’m shaking my head.
March 12, 2022 at 7:42 am #180630If they have expanded rosters at the start of the season, I might be able to see it – if he is limited to a DH platoon. But when the rosters go back to 26, I don’t see how the Cards could afford to continue to carry him as the DH platoon from the far less used side of the plate.
With the pressure on pitching this year, the three bench position players (non-catcher) have to be versatile – both in terms of usage and ideally, with minor league options. None of that is Albert. He didn’t fit before and he doesn’t now. Nostalgia doesn’t win games.
