Herrera played in the AFL previously. Plus he is needed now, currently on St. Louis’ taxi squad, on hand and ready if Molina or Knizner is injured now or during the playoffs.
October 5, 2022 at 6:56 am #203311Salt River fell to Glendale in the second game of the AFL season on Tuesday. Three #STLCards saw action, all for the first time: Masyn Winn, Mike Antico, and Ryan Loutos. 2B Winn had a single, two walks, an RBI and run scored. October 5, 2022 at 1:10 pm #203339Regarding the ABS challenge system we discussed on another thread, it is only being used at Salt River plus the three games at Chase Field. Not being used at the other five AFL parks.
October 6, 2022 at 6:54 am #203429The Salt River Rafters fell to the Mesa Solar Sox on Wednesday. Two #STLCards prospects started in the outfield, Jordan Walker and Mike Antico. The former reached base all four times and scored three runs. (free) https://t.co/Cdms6EIFgR pic.twitter.com/XlYvkfm1qQ

October 7, 2022 at 7:13 am #203510The Salt River Rafters lost to the Surprise Saguaros Thursday afternoon. #STLCards prospects Masyn Winn, Jordan Walker and Pedro Pages started and Kyle Leahy and Tink Hence pitched in relief. October 8, 2022 at 7:34 am #203786The Salt River Rafters lost to Mesa in Friday night's Arizona Fall League play. #STLCards SS prospect Masyn Winn singled, walked and scored. Ryan Loutos pitched two innings and took the loss. Mike Antico and Pedro Pages appeared late. (free) https://t.co/bMYMvwyeP8 pic.twitter.com/92ZOpTlSde

October 8, 2022 at 10:02 pm #203946Looks like O’Neill is playing in Arizona now? I had thought the line was that he was too hurt to play?
October 9, 2022 at 6:28 am #204024Think of it like a minor league rehab stint, though there is no reason for it to continue now.
October 9, 2022 at 6:54 am #204029In Saturday night Arizona Fall League action, Salt River lost to Surprise, falling to 0-6. #STLCards Tyler O’Neill, Jordan Walker, Mike Antico and Masyn Winn all received playing time. Walker blasted a homer in the fourth inning. (free) https://t.co/3wIO82D8lR pic.twitter.com/ukojHWpbUw

October 9, 2022 at 10:08 am #204045Too bad Loutos took a loss, but it sounds like he was a victim of circumstance more than bad pitching. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out how he managed to light up the org’s computer – the high K/9 and his success bringing down the BB/9. He got hit around some in his AAA intro, but a high K/9 seems to trump results sometimes.
The AFL stint basically guarantees we will see him in big league camp, in some capacity. A good showing would likely mean he’d be on the list to come up. That would be something.
I was also wondering what sort of roster manipulation had to happen for O’Neill to play. Did one of our other guys get cut from the squad, and now presumably reinstated?
October 9, 2022 at 2:39 pm #204073I am curious what the plans are for Hence. I hope they give him an 80 pitch limit at some point. He probably should have been moved up to Peoria or Springfield for a cup of coffee earlier.

Like I said, think of it like an MLB player rehabbing in the minors. The rehabbers don’t count against the minor league roster.
October 11, 2022 at 7:44 am #204237Salt River (0-7) fell to Glendale in Monday Arizona Fall League action. #STLCards Jordan Walker, Pedro Pages, Masyn Winn, Mike Antico, Connor Thomas and Kyle Leahy played. Walker homered, Winn had two hits and Thomas tossed five scoreless innings. (free) https://t.co/RxlcEUO5qE pic.twitter.com/7vIlD2MtCW

October 12, 2022 at 6:53 am #204347The still-winless Salt River Rafters were blown out by Glendale in Tuesday AFL action. #stlcards prospect Masyn Winn walked four times, stole a base and scored. Mike Antico singled and walked. Tink Hence and Ryan Loutos each allowed a run in relief. (free) https://t.co/arULjGg7lQ pic.twitter.com/EvReTZLmQw

October 12, 2022 at 8:48 am #204355PadsFSParticipantWith Winn’s walks, his OBP is now .522 in the early going, while Walker’s SLG is .625. Those are promising numbers (SSS warning!)
Tink Hence is also the youngest pitcher in the league. There is a couple position players that are a month younger than him, one being teammate Lawlar, the SS from the D’Backs.
I saw Moises Castillo is tearing it up in the AFL for the White Sox. They pulled him from us in the minor league Rule 5 last year.
October 12, 2022 at 8:49 am #204356Salt River is really looking haggard. I wonder how it’s possible to have such a bad team in Arizona?
October 12, 2022 at 11:08 am #20437111.18 team ERA on pitching side and .792 OPS on hitting side, both last in the league.
October 13, 2022 at 8:42 am #204461In Wednesday AFL action, Salt River defeated Scottsdale. Jordan Walker started and had two singles, a run scored and his two RBI were the winning runs. The CF was the only #STLCards player to appear in the Rafters’ first win in nine tries. (free) https://t.co/WgaAknLAeD pic.twitter.com/NmmvaaqVWi

October 13, 2022 at 8:43 am #204462PadsFSParticipantWalker played CF for the second time yesterday. That is quite promising if he could handle CF some. Despite losing Bader, we could still have 4 capable CFers on the roster next year in Carlson, O’Neill, Nootbaar, and Walker.
October 13, 2022 at 9:24 am #204469Walker also played CF in four games for Springfield. Good to know he can handle it, but I suspect he would not be an above average player there defensively. Indications point to right field as his likely future home.
October 13, 2022 at 3:48 pm #204498Walker has three of the four highest exit velocities on batted balls in the AFL so far. He also has the strongest OF throw. And to top it off, his max sprint speed of 29.9 ft/s is pretty darned impressive for such a big man.
Jordan Walker unleashed a throw in the Arizona Fall League on Monday that was harder than any by a @Cardinals outfielder since Statcast began to keep track in 2015.
Since moving to the outfield, he's been showing off a cannon to go with his elite bat: https://t.co/atSeqWjyAj pic.twitter.com/vLcQqVwE2C

October 14, 2022 at 7:17 am #204548The Salt River Rafters win streak is two as they topped the Peoria Javelinas in Thursday Arizona Fall League action. #stlcards CF prospect Mike Antico stole a base and scored and Masyn Winn was the winning run. Kyle Leahy struggled on the mound. (free) https://t.co/uIKQVmSOjD pic.twitter.com/gkhO4RsNhU

October 15, 2022 at 7:50 am #204631Salt River lost to Peoria in Friday Arizona Fall League action. #stlcards prospect Masyn Winn singled, walked, stole two bases and scored. Pedro Pages drove in two on a double and threw out a runner and Ryan Loutos tossed two perfect relief innings. (free) https://t.co/t11Gxy9oOz pic.twitter.com/QIU3KPGVve

October 16, 2022 at 6:23 am #204690In Saturday Arizona Fall League action, The Salt River Rafters beat the Surprise Saguaros. #STLCards prospect Jordan Walker doubled and Tink Hence tossed a scoreless inning. @luke_kotcher reports. (free) https://t.co/09Hg1Fn5dO pic.twitter.com/peEWobZw3L

October 16, 2022 at 8:08 am #204692So far Hence is handling competition a lot more advanced than the FCL. Low WHIP combined with low K/9 means he is getting a lot of outs on batted balls. Similar to Woodford and Parsons. My guess it will be interpreted differently in his case. If the computer throws any shade on him it will go over the side.
