Rangel with 2 more doubles today. He can rake.

Coming into today, Ravelo was in a deep, 2-for-31 slump, which knocked 25 points off his batting average. Maybe this is the start of another hot stretch.

Ben Yokley was asked if he wanted to go to the beach or the mountains. He went for the beach.

    Thanks for your service (salutes).

Montero like others would have more value if he can stick at 3rd, but it’s not like he is blocked by any prospects at 1st. Yepez has struggled since his promotion, and there is very little youth at the position< But behind him, there are some intriguing guys.

Coward had a good game today. 7 strikeouts in 3 innings in the GCL. Maybe he should be moved to Johnson City. They could use about anyone with a pulse.

After Rangel’s slump, let’s see what he looks like at Memphis this year –

    260 PAs / .296 / .382 / .496 / .878 / 1 Error

Let’s see what he did at Memphis in 2017 –

    345 PAs / .314 / .383 / .480 / .863 / 2 errors

Seems like not only has he been raking, he’s also been playing good defense.

What I like about Gorman so far is that his K/BB rate is very good (14 K’s and 12 BB’s). Much more in balance than say someone like Tyler O’Neill.

Also, it is nice to see Delvin Perez off to a fairly decent start. Much better than last year. If he continues maybe he could end the year in Peoria or Palm Beach. He just needs to keep making progress and not get stalled out like Plummer.

Yep, Perez is making some headway offensively….. .375 in his last 9 games. Peoria could use some mid-INF help and he could move up right now while he is hot. Being sent back down later wouldn’t hurt him since this is his 19 y.o. season. It’s time to see what we got here.

The Johnson City pitching staff is a disaster. The last time a starter made it out of the 4th inning was on July 1st. Since then their GS avr has been 36.5, not good. The beginning of their season wasn’t much better. Last season on this date the JC rotation was: ERamirez – Seijas – Oviedo – Schlesener _ Casadilla.

The ’18 bullpen may be worse:
    EPerez 6.43ERA
    Oca 8.00 – 2.22WHIP
    Schmid(13th.Rd) 11.37 – 1.89
    ERamirez 11.85 – 2.41 (inc. 2 starts)
    JrGonzalez 19.73 – 3.23 (inc. 1 start)

A few relievers have been efficient so far: Kelly(20th), Sylvester(UFA), Leahy(17th), and Sisk(16th).

But its their offense that has kept them at 9-10 but only 2 .0 out of first. Machado (.405) and Gorman (looking like a 1st rd. pick) have been driving the attack along with Soto and Riley. Machado needs more of a challenge.

First time in years that there seems to be more potential among position players than among pitchers from the mid levels on down.

It is good to see a former first round pick doing better. (Perez) And Dylan Carlson seems to make slow, steady progress every year. I wonder if his finished product might be 20 homer, 80 rbi, .270 plus hitter?

I wonder how severe Helsleys injury is? I would hope he comes back soon, otherwise he might be in the pen for the rest of the year.

I had a little dig at Nick Plummer in a previous post but he has been playing a little better lately. I shouldn’t write him off yet. You never know he might be a late bloomer like Pham or JMart.

Yariel Gonzalez and Elehuris Montero each receive a single mention in a poll of five other Midwest League broadcasters on the top players in the Class-A League.

Baker 3 for 3 today before being replaced in the 7th. GCL-Cards trailing 9-5 in the 9th.

That potential middle of the order lineup someday of DeJong, O’Neill, Gorman, and Baker could be plenty exciting.

2021? At that point, Gorman would be 21.

Arturo Reyes is gone. It looks like Memphis bullpen is going from a team weakness to a strength.

It was a pleasure checking out the farm system this morning. A couple of great hitting performances from Arozarena and Woodall and superior efforts from starters Warner(GS-73) and Fagalde again (GS-64).

    Queue the music:

    Any guesses on the singer/song?

Presently, Poncedeleon(MEM) is in the lead for “Pitcher of the Month” with Shew(SPFD) and Dahlberg(SC) close behind. All three are having excellent months.

I am the head engineer of the Martin Cordova train. Seriously impressed with the stats he’s putting up

UConn, I see he is from Mexico but no Mexican League stats. Do you have any info on his signing?

I am tentatively optimistic. Other than ERA his stats are very good but not great.

Re signing, nothing other than what’s listed in his player profile here at TCN
