This was one of the picks i def like. His track record isnt great but it was amazing what he did once he had the eye surgery. So i think taking a chance on him was a great thing. Nice to see he gets a little spending money.

Here’s a quick recap of the reported signings so far.
Good to hear about all the signings. Should be interesting to see how the money lines up. Sounds like all that’s left in the first 10 rounds is Maniscalco and Randall? Those are the two that seemed like they’d be requiring a little extra dough to bring in, so hopefully they can get the money lined up.
They seem to be about $1.3 million below slot on the signings so far. Hopefully that, plus the ability go 5% over (another $800K) is enough to get Maniscalco and Randall done.
The McDaniel guy on ESPN.com had the Cardinals as his favorite draft class as well
One big thought: If it wasn’t clear yet, this is probably my favorite draft class out of all 30, even acknowledging that it’s easy to look good with extra picks. I’ve written a number of times about how much I like CF Trevor Condon (first round). He’s just the kind of player I want to bet on, even if he won’t light up a workout.
Let’s run through the other guys I liked for where they were drafted. RHP Tegan Kuhns (comp round) needs a tweak to his breaking ball but could be a midrotation starter in short order. RHP Dawson Montesa (second round) has solid-average stuff headlined by a heater up to 98 mph and will be a starter if he can improve his fastball command one notch. RF Caden Ferraro didn’t play in the field a ton this spring, but wowed teams with his athletic testing in predraft workouts after raking all season. SS Dee Kennedy (fourth round) has tons of secondary skills (patience, pull/lift to get to power, speed) and fits up the middle, so I can live with some swing-and-miss. RHP Jacob Haley (11th round) showed above-average stuff in limited innings this spring.
Everything I see is upbeat about our draft. Condon and Kuhns get a lot of positive talk, but I love the Kennedy pick. I really like athletic guys as they bring so much to the game that makes a difference. And the kid has power as well. Hope he adjusts to wooden bats and is a future star.
While I would not have drafted a DH where they did…you might be able to make a case that Ferraro might be one of the best bats in their entire Farm system right now.
This also could be b/c I hate the DH…and don’t value it as much as I probably should.
If you watched Brian’s Wednesday podcast you saw that all of them were very positive about tis draft. I really like it too. For qa change we went for the high cieling guys, those with high 90’s fastballs and those with high athletisism and or high exit velocity. And aloot of plus defenders. It is looking forwart instead of looking back.Now we need to get them signed.

You are paying a guy whose never taken a bat against college competition 5 million dollars while randall cam prob get major league guys out right now on a consistent basis is only slotted to get 500,000 dollars. But it is what it is.
I forgot to mention that I am predicting Rocco to get something like $3.5M to $4M…probably closer to $4M.

Either he’s got a rather grandiose idea of his value, or he’s afraid that he might not be good enough to get a multi million dollar contract some day, so he’d better get it while he has the chance. It could also be that someone is getting inside his head and giving him bad advice. Who knows? Let’s just wait and see what happens.

Most of These guys all have agents or advisors negotiating these signing deals. It’s kind of complicated. Prep players can hire their own agents. College guys hire “advisors” But either way that relationship has to be severed before they play college ball if they don’t sign. So it’s not personal. The agent is going to get the most he possibly can for the player because he gets paid more. It’s a % deal typically.
It’s not that black and white anymore. College players can and do hire agents to negotiate their NIL deals.
I understand that part Brian. But if they don’t sign, my understanding is that they have to sever that relationship in order to return playing in college. Do I have that right?
I’m not an expert in it but my understanding is that the player can keep the agent but can’t use him to negotiate a pro contract while playing in college.

Under the current CBA, if a player selected in the first four rounds does not sign, the team gets a draft pick selection in the following year’s draft that is one slot back from the pick that was selected.
So, he was #50 this year, they would get #51 next year.
