That had to be a $ saving pick…his numbers are pretty solid but he is like 5-11

Cardinals attempting to corner the under-6-ft-tall segment of the market . . .

You see a kid named Holliday out of Okie State, and you automatically think, “Oh, this must be Matt’s other son.”

Not this time though. Seems we could have done better here, but as has been mentioned this is likely an economical pick.

Why does everyone have to be negative?

“ Cardinals attempting to corner the under-6-ft-tall segment of the market . . .”

Dewitt is so cheap he directed Flores & Co. to draft short guys to save on uniform costs. 🙂

I have seen Braden Davis pitch quite a bit, that may be a pretty good pick. He got off to a rough start at the beginning of the season but he was pretty good after that

But again I think he is right at 6 ft or under

Davis listed at 5’11”. He’s the “tall one” in this class thus far . . .

They finally drafted someone over 6′! I’m trying to figure out why two of their first picks are catchers given that catching seems one of the positions they are relatively solid at and they seem to be going under slot?

They seem to be scrambling to save money in rounds 3-5. May indicate Wetherholt is going to sign for well over slot, but who knows.

This looks like they wagered the entire draft on Wetherholt.

Maybe Dewitt cut the scouts travel budget I think 4 of the 5 they drafted are from the Big 12

Yep. Looks like we are putting all the proverbial eggs from this draft in Wetherholt’s basket. A potential stud and some 5th-15th rd lottery tickets. Sounds great if you trust our medical staff to assess Wetherholt’s injury issues. I’m kind of closing my eyes and hoping for the best. I’m still happy with the pick but this draft could look really bad if he fizzles

How many players from a draft usually pan out…3-5 per team at most, I think their 2020 draft was probably their best in the last 20+ years

The Dutkanych pick is interesting he was hurt almost the whole year at Vanderbilt….would think he would go back to school to improve his stock. Pitched 10.2 innings in 2024 with 14 strikeouts

Flores taking two injured pitchers in a row, since he has such a great track record with that strategy…

Seeing how the Cardinals draft strategy is playing out, is everybody still as excited about the Wetherholt pick?

Or should the Cardinals have seen who fell to them at #7 and gone for more upside with their other picks?

You can’t go wrong with a “JJ” pick 🤠

Is Wetherholt going to be any good? I looked him up and best I can tell he’s a SS. I thought the Cardinals were reasonably happy with Winn.

    Well, 1TD.

First rounders have a roughly 30% chance of making it to the show, if I recall.

Wetherholt has missed significant time with hamstring injuries – and you have to be on the field to contribute.

As for position – first round should always be best available. Use later rounds to address needs.

I am glad to see us focus on college players instead of high school players. These guys should be more polished.

Hamstring eh? Next thing you know he’ll be dogging it rounding 3B…
