With only two needed he can probably get them, but I think they will flip him with Matz and have Adam pitch in relief.
I never bought the stride excuse – coaches and even Adam would have caught that. As a pitcher you know where your normal landing point is. A better answer to that was to say he was shortening his stride due to another issue or situation.
June 29, 2023 at 7:18 pm #225925Has Edman given up on hitting lefty against a righty?
June 29, 2023 at 7:21 pm #225926Bottom of 3. Still a very winnable game vs this rookie…… we’re not facing Verlander here. Just 2 runs here puts us right back into things.
Gorman – Grounds it up the middle but Pena flashes over from short to scoop it on up and throw it on over to Abreu at 1st for the out.
DeJong – Walks and Paulie momentarily looked like he didn’t want to take his base, but then reason quickly settles in and he trots on down to take his rightful base.
Edman – Pops out to short.
Donovan – Grounds it to Pena’s right at SS and he’ll glove it but then have to put it in his hip pocket……infield base hit
Goldy – Grounds out routinely to Altuve at 2nd base to retire the side.
Astros 6
Cardinals 0June 29, 2023 at 7:23 pm #225927Houston has had some good second sackers in their history – Joe Morgan, Craig Biggio, Jose Altuve. They even had another Hall of Famer who was at the end of his career when he got to Houston. As a trivia question, anyone know who this second baseman might be?
June 29, 2023 at 7:28 pm #225928I like Matz out of the bullpen. As to who will replace Wainwright – whoever it is will almost certainly be an upgrade without even being an average ML pitcher.
That unfortunately says a lot.
But, yeah – knowing this bunch Matz and Wainwright will just flip flop between pen and starting rotation.
June 29, 2023 at 7:29 pm #225929I wanted to say Jeff Kent, but forgot that he ain’t in there…Haha!
June 29, 2023 at 7:32 pm #225930I had the old guy goatee going on for a few years, like Jimmy the Cat has and you see on a lot of old guys. In April I shaved off the beard part and now have a mustache a lot like this France guy. But mine is white. 😀
June 29, 2023 at 7:39 pm #225931Has Edman given up on hitting lefty against a righty?
Edman has a career .695 OPS batting lefty against righty.
He has a career .701 OPS batting righty against righty (38 PAs).
He is never going to get better as a lefty. He may get better as a righty.
June 29, 2023 at 7:43 pm #225932I liked ol’ Dusty when he was a player and then not so much at all when he was a manager while he and TLR were such good pals…But I’ve grown to like him again. He’s been around so long that I kind of get a kick out of seeing him on the top step gnawing on that silly toothpick.
June 29, 2023 at 7:44 pm #225933Kent was another good one, 1TD. Hint – Joe Morgan gave this guy a lot of credit for helping him becoming a big leaguer early in his career.
June 29, 2023 at 7:46 pm #225934Walker has turned into a pretty good singles hitter. Takes a walk too. He should make a good #2 hitter.
June 29, 2023 at 7:54 pm #2259359-0 now. I bet there are some AAA teams we’d lose a three game series to.
June 29, 2023 at 7:55 pm #225936That’s a good trivia question and a genuine stumper, Bikemike. I had no idea and would never have guessed the correct answer. I looked it up, so I won’t say anything. I actually thought Kent was the correct answer and simply forgot that he never got in.
June 29, 2023 at 7:56 pm #225937Walker sure has, Bling. Good call with him batting 2nd…..and now Tucker tags Woodford with a soaring 3 run bomb to right…..9-0 Astros and matters are starting to look mighty bleak for our Birds. Need to stop the bleeding right here and then hit them with a croaked number in the bottom half of this inning……no how did Walker misplay that routine fly ball? I think I see DH and 1st base in his future.
June 29, 2023 at 7:56 pm #225938Sorry PA, it’s unfortunately over for Wainwright. He should hang it up tomorrow and do a curtain call at the next game. He had a great career but this is it.
June 29, 2023 at 7:59 pm #225939Wonder where LACardFan fan is tonight? stlcard25 and Euro too…….a few cool cats missing in action.
June 29, 2023 at 8:00 pm #225940The Astros were struggling when they arrived in StL. It wouldn’t surpise me too much if they used this 3 game series with the Redbirds as a springboard to an extended hot streak. Several teams have done that this season. I hate to acknowledge this, but we’ve become the patsies of the Big Leagues.
June 29, 2023 at 8:02 pm #225941You have to believe that if we had not blown that game late, last night, this score would not be 9-0 tonight.
June 29, 2023 at 8:05 pm #225942Yeah TexCard, if someone would have asked me before the start of the season I would have said he was a lock for the 200W plateau, but now I’m not at all sure and he looks like he may be thinking along those same lines.
June 29, 2023 at 8:05 pm #225943How fun would it be to be 25 years old and being a major leaguer. Travel from city to city with a bunch of friends and with pretty ladies fawning all over you. And having the financial resources to help so many others in need out. They just may be in heaven.
June 29, 2023 at 8:07 pm #225944I don’t know, Pugs. They’ve now suffered countless losses that were almost carbon copies of last night’s game. It’s to the point that I think it may simply be an inherent trait of this year’s edition.
June 29, 2023 at 8:07 pm #225945It’s sad he’s going out like this but here we are. Hopefully he can walk away and not suffer through more of these games. He’s a competitor and i know its tough to make the decision to walk away. He deserves respect for his career even with this ending but he has to do it. It’s not gonna get better.
June 29, 2023 at 8:10 pm #225946Pugs, I spent way to much time thinking about bikemike’s question. Haha, I was thinking Jeff Kent too. Then mike gave the old guy hint and I was wondering if Mazeroski made a pass through Houston.
Anyway, I was getting nowhere, so I just looked it up. I’m sure Hall of Fame announcer Keith Jackson would’ve had no problem singing out the correct answer.
June 29, 2023 at 8:13 pm #225947Yeah, I’d have to say it’d almost always be a lot of fun, Pugs. I’m sure there’d be exceptions to the rule. I wouldn’t want to engage in too many conversations with Johnny for instance. And if the Redbird manager sat next to me in the dugout, I’d get up and head for the water cooler…

The people in need would have to let me couch surf because I even spent my rent money entertaining the ladies.
