Carlson was our number 1 about the same time that Arozarena was like number 12. And honestly, I’m still not sure which will be better. Arozarena has been worth 1.5 more WAR than Carlson over the past 2 seasons total so call it one win per season better at best. But Arozarena is now 30 and Carlson is just 24. Carlson is still one of the youngest outfielders in baseball.

Giving him Uni #3 constituted the full court, over the top, full contact, hard core, full frontal hype cannon in your face. He never lived up to it and never really caught on as a star to be with the rank and file fan base, despite the efforts of the organization and media. I don’t know if he was officially ever the #1 prospect, but if not, it was not for lack of promotion.
He was definitely # 1 on TCN and MLB.com. I’m not sure about everywhere else. But maybe since he’s only 24, the better way to say it Bling is that he hasn’t lived up to it yet. But he may still get there. At least that’s the positive approach for tonight! After all, Nootbaar is older and I don’t see anyone thinking that he has no more growth in him yet. We’d be foolish to be too hard on Dylan.
I am not sure why everyone is so high on Nudie Bar. What has he ever done? He’s a career .239 hitter so far. And I don’t care what his fWOT and gRBB and BADIL and ZUR indicate – He’s a career .239 hitter.

Jnevel, that is a great point about Carlson’s age. At 24, he still has a lot of upside. He was rushed to the big time back in 2020 when our offense was stagnant during that short season.
His defense plays already – just needs to be better at the plate, especially from the left side.
Well hitting Gorman third is wrong. Burleson in right is wrong. Put Donovan second in the order and Gorman fifth.

TexasCard – it doesn’t matter what the lineup is tonight. We’re winning either way. Besides, lineup’s don’t make a lot of difference as long as your best hitters hit more.

Not imperative you understand why everyone is so high on Noot, Rats. Just remember that every time we tried to trade with this winter, the other team wanted Noot in return.
I think the order of a line-up makes a tremendous difference. In my view, it’s construction represents the entire offensive plan of attack. I think it’s why Brock was entrenched at lead-off, Pujols’ domain was unquestionably the 3 slot and, prior to the DH, Maxvill was always placed in front of the pitcher. Contact guys who can be expected to move the runner over like Sizemore belong in the 2 slot. I also think that each member of any particular line-up should be reasonably aware of his role in the offensive attack and that the aforementioned level of awareness can suffer with a lack of consistency. I’m not entirely adverse to a little mix and match when it’s clearly necessary, but it’s my view that when it’s excessive, it makes it difficult for any player’s role to be clearly defined. In any event, I think that the placement in the batting order is paramount to the success of an offensive attack.
These guys have screwed up this season with the terrible pitching staff and ridiculous OF management…no way should Walker be not playing over Burleson who is a DH and Carlson who is a bust…thankfully they sent him down so he can get in the lineup
What a joke
Lots of teams to leapfrog in the NLC, but the primary concern tonight will be to record a W in order to keep pace with…the Reds.
You may be right or wrong 1TD. I’m not sure. The computer models basically say it doesn’t matter as long as your 5 best hitters hit in the top 5. But computers don’t really know the first thing about playing actual real baseball so I think there’s some truth both ways. My belief is that you never really know what the exact situation is going to be at any point in the game so the randomness just is always going to throw any plan you had at the beginning out of whack and so you just need to be flexible and adapt. And that’s one thing I love about this year’s version of the team – there’s tons of flexibility built in. But I understand the other side of the argument that some people really like structure and consistency and having lots of moving parts takes away from their focus. So for some it’s good and others it’s bad. But tonight it just isn’t going to matter. We will win regardless.
I’ve noticed we’re seeing a ton of sliders and read that slider useage is up in general across the league. But man do we see a lot of them.
FWIW, I am taking the night off. Am going to go try to finish a book I am reading called “Stan and Ollie” – which is not about Musial and Marmol, but rather Laurel and Hardy.
But it gets me to thinking, wouldn’t it be hilarious to create a video with two guys who look like Musial and Marmol, but act like Laurel and Hardy!! 😀
