John Denny was another ex-Cardinal who ended up with the Phillies. He won the cy young for them in 1983.
Yep, Denny was another. I recall when the 4 man consisting of Forsch, Denny, Rasmussen and the highly touted lefty Pete Falcone looked pretty good for the Redbirds. I’m pretty sure that through the first 30 or so games of one season in the mid to late 70’s, the Cardinals had 3 SP’ers who were among the top 10 NL leaders in W’s. Pretty sure 2 of them were 4-0 and 3-0. Then they caved…Haha!
Edit…I just looked it up and Bob Forsch won 20 games that season.
Just now got home and tuned in to see the Astros out to an early 4-0 lead. Despite losing the first 2 games at home, I don’t expect Houston to go quietly.
Scherzer still has the attitude of a bull terrier, just not the same bite as the 2012-2019 versions.

Yep, he’s 3 years younger than Wainwright. He was elite into his mid-30s.
Hey, I’m 64 now and have noticed in each decade my body degrades about 2 or 3 times the rate as the previous decade. Kind of like compound interest. And I’m relatively healthy and active. It’s so nice to have the death train headed on a collision course with yourself moving at an exponentially increasing speed.
Haha!…Yeah, I happened to notice that once I turned 65 and qualified for Medicare, my body seemed to deteriorate at a rate that was tenfold to the prior 2 or 3 years. In addition to that, the deterioration is no longer restricted to physical limitations. I’m constantly thinking to myself, “Where the heck did I leave my keys?”…I’m afraid that one of these days I’ll walk into the grocery store only to realize that I forgot to wear pants…Haha! This getting old routine is not for cupcakes…Anyone who makes it past 80 is one tough son of a gun!
AZ’s getting a nice turn from Pfaadt who’s not allowed a run with 8 K’s while only surrending 2 hits through 5 full. The Dbacks just can’t score any runs. They’ve only managed to push 3 across in 23 innings so far in this NLCS. Sounds familiar.
Runners at the corners with no outs in the home half of the 9th for AZ. Almost have to issue an IBB and hope for something good.

Houston out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Both of these LCS could begin to get a bit more competitive. I’m a Cardinal fan, so I’m accustomed to the 7 game pressure cooker. I hope both of these extend to 7.
Rangers are getting no help from their SP3 or 4. They’ve shown you can get to an LCS with a top2, and a nice lineup. Tied 2-2, they have Monty and Eovaldi lined up for games 5 and 6.
It doesn’t seem like the Astros rotation is any deeper than the Rangers. It does prove you can go get a Scherzer and still lose.
Probably not, but I give the edge to Houston only for the reason being that the majority of their roster has much more practical experience in high stake games than does Texas. In fact, the only area in which I think Texas may hold an edge is manager, but only a slight edge.
Yep, they had the Astros on the ropes after winning two at the orange bowl, but that was the end of their seven game post-season winning streak. Now, they almost need this last one at home to survive.
Montgomery featuring another real nice post-season turn. Now through 5 with 1 ER allowed on only 3 H’s with 0 BB’s and 3 K’s. Verlander not too shabby either. Nice post-season pitching battle so far.

Oh boy…Seager can’t handle a hot smash from Abreu which would have been a GIDP if he’d have been able to somehow cleanly glove it. Tough chance, but no dice as a the lead run scores. Astros still with runners at the corners with one out and now leading 2-1.
Another BB from Montgomery jams ’em up and chases Montgomery as Bochy’s seen enough from his lefty SP’er.
Whoa!…Diving stop by 2B’man Semien keeps 2 runs from crossing HP as healso makes the throw to complete the play for the third out and saves the day for Texas as the inning ends. That play with the mitt may turn out to be the difference in this 5th game.
